Scorn is pretty awesome. His dino mode with the head that tilts from side-to-side is really cool. You can get some really nice poses out of his dino mode. His robot mode is pretty cool as well, despite having a very simplistic head and a tail arm.
Scorn's gallery will be up later tonight or tomorrow.

Anyway, it's too early to call it, but this one is probably a pass. I quite like the Voyager so I'll try that. I really hope this movie is good

And that quote makes me think of another possibility: the chromed one may be TakaraTomy's Black Knight Grimlock.

I'll probably wait for a sale.

Pass.

Pass.
To be fair, the robot mode looks decently poseable, and it would be impossible to have the dinosaur mode highly articulated without heavily compromising the articulation/looks of the robot mode.

After getting Voyager Grimlock I had really high hopes that Leader Grimlock would make up for some of his shortcomings, this proved to be wrong. The figure while engineered to obviously be much bigger is in many ways more simplistic than the voyager mode and overall I was not particularly happy with him.
One huge call out to start us with… the chrome, my god the chrome! If you feel that Hasbro hasn’t been using chrome enough then this is the guy for you because he’s covered in it. And in a lovely turn of events it begins chipping pretty much right out of the box. I have several spots on mine (mostly on the T-Rex head) where chrome has already flecked away. Such a pain!
Box:
Bot Mode:
Fresh out of the case he is in his bot mode, his directions however have him in T-Rex mode and it can be a bit of a pain to follow them backwards, but that’s jumping ahead.
Leaders have apparently gotten smaller. Grimlock is dwarfed by every other movie leader I own and while height wise he looks just slightly shorter, you can tell when holding him that there is much less mass in the figure then there have been in the previous movie leader-size figures.
He has 17 points of articulation, depending on how you’re counting. His head turns, but cannot be moved in any other way. His arms… are a pain for posing! Here are his shoulders folded all the way down:
Here are his arms the very next click outwards:
Let me make this clear, there is no in-between on these two points! You’re left trying to pose his forearms as much as possible to make up for this. Speaking of his forearms, the kibble from his feet is much less than that of Voyager Grimlock , but it in turn leads to the legs of T-Rex mode looking much more simplistic.
I have some good news for you if you’re not a fan of the whole elf shoe thing that Grimlocks have been sporting. Here is how the directions say his feet should be:
Here is how I believe 95% of the fandom will choose to keep theirs:
Weapons, he comes with his big mace thing and a shield that clips on to his forearm. The mace grips in very tight with his hands you shouldn’t have trouble posing it. Both combine to form the tail in his T-Rex form.
Some comparison shots:
T-Rex Mode:
I would not call this a T-Rex anymore. He is clearly an Asian themed dinosaur/dragon thing. Unlike the voyager, his horns/ears cannot be folded down or in any way covered up. They are out there permanently.
Size wise he is maybe 30%-40% larger than the voyager in this mode, but much less poseable. His arms fit so high on his body that when fully extended they barely clear his chest, let alone his head. His tail has no articulation at all. In fact his tail is so short it’s almost funny.
His jaw is poseable, unlike the voyager one, but that’s really one of the few areas where he is superior.
Are those his bot fists clearly sitting on the back of his feet? Why yes they are!
My original plan was to keep voyager in T-Rex and leader in bot mode. Then when I saw how weak the voyager T-Rex was I planned on doing the opposite. Now however I have switched back again and Leader will be remaining in his bot mode. So long as it is very far away from every other leader I own so that he doesn’t look tiny in comparison!
Overall:
I’d still get him, because I’m a hardcore Grimlock fan, but I see a lot of fans passing on him and/or being disappointed with him.

This so much. At least have the chrome reflect the originally planned deco.
I appreciate what they're trying to do, I truly, honestly do, but do they have to fail so hard?

Also, I hope those Vehicon troopers get a deluxe scale figure I can army build. Buying 3 5 17 troop builders will make up for the lack of other Decepticon toys.

We may also have Reno Wilson, who tweeted about voice-acting for Age of Extinction, but quickly took it down.

Rated X wrote:Im still undecided if I want to buy the dinobots and slap some con symbols on them. They might make a good faction of predacons to go with the BH preds. But I have no interest in using them for theyre intended purpose. Ive turned my back on the non classics lines unless its a figure that can be repurposed on a classics shelf. And for the record, im sick of grimlock always getting a larger figure than other dinobots in his last 3 toy incarnations. Theyre not a scramble city team and never were.
that's why I'm getting them. The chubby horny one (Slug? Purplesaurus) is far too purple for me to accept him as a (maybe that makes me robo-racist?) even before adding in the red accents to make him very Magneto-esque. The red one, well, he's just red and that's plenty universal as far as TFs go, but his (Vangelus-coined) "Made Of Knives" look feels a lot more to me. Grimlock would probably work as either, but I like how he reminds me of a cross between Knightmare and Astaroth from the Soul Calibur games. So he's a baddie too.
edit: has no one digibashed these guys into their G1 colour schemes yet? It'd be interesting to see how different the impression they'd give in more traditional colours, because right now, there's only the barest hint of them being related by the kind of similar alt modes.

Myself, if I get them, I'll probably treat them as separate characters from the "original" Dinobots (who I plan on representing with FOC Grimlock and the Planet X not-Dinobots, when they're all released), either as an alternate universe/Shattered Glass Dinobot team, or simply as new characters in their own right. Of course, I take the Wayward/Insecticomics viewpoint with canon (ignoring it completely, giving each figure/character their own personality independent of any one series) so my approach won't work for more "hardcore" collectors.
I must admit though, I quite like the multicoloured Dinobots. Grimlock reminds me of Cybertron Scourge (who I've been meaning to get) and the others, especially Slug/Slag, remind me of a particularly spiky Super Sentai team. And to play devil's advocate, the kids are gonna love 'em. I mean, what 7-year-old wouldn't like a spiky purple triceratops that turns into a duel-wielding robot?

Well, you should, because they are. How come nobody knows this?
Since when was it dictated all incarnations of a certain character had to be the same as the original? Never.

yeah, these will be new characters for me. I'm thinking Shockwave's FOC experiments creating the Dinobots were just the start, and he perfected the process and then used it on a team of crazy badass Decepticons.

I am really intrigued by all the dinoknights. Voyager Grimlock is the least appealing, but.
But.
Scorn looks pretty good, Slug is actually pretty fun - will be very interesting to see Strafe and Slash in their Generations version rather than the simplified versions!

I have a pet theory that it's easier to tolerate the simplified designs of a deluxe when it's a beastformer, where the kibble can be integrated in interesting ways (Grimlock's shoulder pauldrons, Scorn's "wings"). And these Dinobots do look like the strongest aspect of the line.
I'm planning on matching them up against Beast Hunters Predacons for an all new 'beast wars'...
