Offroad Bumblebee is a brand new mold deluxe class figure, and is based on the Jeep form Bumblebee temporarily took at the beginning of the Bumblebee movie. He faithfully recreates his appearance from that film, and transforms into a pretty nice little yellow Jeep. Here we get a look at him in a couple poses, showing that not only can be move, but he also has a pretty tight backpack, keeping barely any kibble on his body.
We also get our best look yet at Sentinel Prime, the main villain from Dark of the Moon, where he betrayed the Autobots and went insane trying to bring life back to his planet, at any cost. While we don't get any sort of look at him from behind, we do get a couple of poses out of him, as well as a look at his sword. Sadly, he does not come with a shield, though this means your Studio Series Ironhide can beat him up quicker.

Thank you for my new favorite thing that has ever been said on Seibertron.
These pics do show something kinda cool - Sentinel's sword is formed by panels on the side of his alt mode. It's actually a pretty cool way to do that, although I'm a little disappointed I won't get to spray paint the whole sword silver.
The molded detail on Sentinel is just insane. Studio Series as a whole has a lot of very impressive molded detail, but Sentinel looks to take it up another notch. Can't wait to get all that painted!

He's already been confirmed to be a voyager. Though he will likely be a somewhat larger voyager, somewhere between Optimus and Megatron size.

Voyager only?
Well, I wonder how he'll turn out. But one thing is sure. It will be sorta-kinda better than the DOTM voyager original!

It's a great figure, don't get me wrong
but I think the color scheme is too dark. I need some silver or a brighter red plastic. It just seems so dull and emo or edgy

He doesn't look like he's a complete shellformer, so he's already better.
Also, is it just me, or does it look like all of Sentinel's red is paint? It doesn't look like he has any red plastic, which contributes to the aforementioned dark color scheme.
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on February 28th, 2020 @ 12:51am CST
But yes, he does look to be cast almost entirely in black plastic with the red mainly supplied by paint. While it certainly achieves a dusky red effectively, it also gobbles a lot of the paint budget, leaving Sentinel looking very bare aside from that. Things are black that should be gray, and he's missing a lot of the gray and silver highlights that were present in the movie, not to mention details.
It makes me wonder if they just gave up trying to accommodate multiple colors in the mold layout.

No, he means he wants Studio Series to branch out into making figures for the Movieverse characters who got toys in the Movie 1, ROTF, 2010, DOTM, AOE, TLK, and BB toylines but who did not appear in the movies.fruityrobo wrote:Autobot N wrote:I hope they branch out into toyline-only movie figures at some point. Mind you, while it would be nice to see them revived for Studio Series... There's only so many slots to go around, and screen characters are taking up a lot.

The reviews were good, so I thought, why not. He looked good in robot mode, and imposing too. And it turns out those are the only good things about him. In every other facet, the previous voyager is superior.
The previous one had a more fun transformation, a better looking alt mode (where the tank can actually roll) and didn't feel as cheap. I really hate the soft plastic on this new one. I have no clue why it was used for his hands and long weapon. It gives no articulation to the hand (his only hand!) and it warps the longer weapon, also making it harder for him to hold it. Plus that tube drags on the floor. And the face guard is really haphazard in vehicle mode. It was wonderful with the voyager, a nice touch. But here anything related to the alt mode feel just so lame. Why even bother.
So to recap, there is nothing good related to the alt mode/transforming aspect of the toy. And the robot mode has some really questionable plastic choices with limited articulation (no waste, nothing with the hands or feet). Pretty unacceptable for a "leader class" toy. Can't believe the Cyberverse Deluxe has more articulation than this guy.

Even posing him will give you issues due to how they did his feet. His ankles are practically levitating.

That said, SS Shocky looks a lot less chunky than SS DotM Megs, and hides the treads better than his DotM Voyager toy. He also has more spikes, and they stick out more. Which may have necessitated the soft plastic. Parts where it wasn't necessary probably fall victim to being on the same sprue as those where it was.

They seem to be allotted a bit more plastic and possibly more parts than the CHUG figures are. Blackout seems to have a bit more meat on his bones than, say, TR Sixshot. And then there's the Studio Series DOTM Leader Optimus.Rodimus Prime wrote:I'm sorry, I don't understand. Allotted more what? Accessories? Bulk? Parts count? I still haven't even opened mine, I'm considering selling it. For some reason I soured on it a bit after purchase. I have SS-05 Prime, that's a good representation of the character in SS. I didn't like Jetfire so I never got SS-32 either. Now I'm not sure the trailer and jetwing was worth the double dipping.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:They seem to be allotted a bit more plastic and possibly more parts than the CHUG figures are. Of course, I don't know if SS Optimus is lighter on mass than ER Optimus is.

So if SS Shocky go on "mysterious 39$CAN Walmart sale" like they did for the Siege leaders, I may get him. But anymore than that and I'll stick with my DOTM voyager original.

I returned my DoTM Jetwing Prime. He just felt too fiddly for $50. Things weren't tabbing in snugly and on only the 2nd time transforming the tab that joins the front grill halves just about gave way, so much to the point I was afraid of doing it again and having it break. Plus on a much less important note he cant hold the shield in a normal way.
So if anybody has had a positive experience with him that is good, but currently, just too rich and dinky for my tastes

That's exactly what I feel about Shockwave.

No, I have my megatron bend and crouched over as much as he can and then he is just at head height with shockwave. I wish shockwave was about 1.5 inches taller.
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on February 29th, 2020 @ 4:50pm CST
I blame Megatron more than Shockwave. He's super-chunky for a movieverse toy (he almost looks like an Armada toy doing Bayformer cosplay) and I don't think he compresses down enough. Of course, that's probably beyond Studio Series' average engineering level.

I would not blame Megatron since the TF1, TF2, and TF3 megatrons are all exactly the same height and are in roughly 1:52 scale (which seems to be the overall scale of Studio Series). I guess shockwaves height does vary from pictures that I have found, but I just feel like he should be bigger, but whatever I will live.

The robot mode is perfection, and the paint work is incredible. Mine has no issues with legs and posing, sure he has no wrist or waist, but the way he transforms removes the possibility of a waist, and besides, Cyberverse Shockwave is very small AND requires the waist to transform. I like the transformation on the SS one, and the tank mode is pretty good. You have to be transforming him wrong, cause Mine rolls good and the hose can thread up through the back to get out of the way.
Long story short, I knew shockwave wasn't your type Will. He is a great toy nonetheless.
And as for DotM Prime, Rodimus Prime: If all you have is the first voyager, this one is well worth it. The retooling makes him significantly tighter and better. And the trailer does a crap ton all things considered: weapons bay and flight pack. the flight pack could be better, but it is far better than folding in half and launching a little blue pod. You should still get him, that is the definitive Studio Prime

In regards to Leader Optimus, I’ve got some bias because DOTM Prime with the trailer is the Optimus Prime to me, but I love it. It’s not perfect, there are gaps in the jetpack and the truck mode is kinda off, but the robot mode is excellent and the sheer number of accessories he comes with is really impressive. I’d totally recommend him.
Now that we know what this year holds for SS, what’s everyone hoping for next year?
While not necessarily this year, I’m hoping for
- The rest of the DOTM crew (Dino, Que, Bee, Hatchet)
- Sideways
- Evasion Mode Optimus (never got my hands on the original)
- I’d be interested to see how they tackle the Fallen, even though it’s not one I think I need.
- I’d actually like to see a dark gray repaint of ROTF Starscream as DOTM Starscream.

I'd like to see DOTM Devcon, as well as TLK Onslaught, Dreadbot, and Mohawk.

You and i have almost the exact same feelings about DotM Prime. He is my definitive movie Prime as well. and I think he did the best and most imaginative things with the trailer than any other Prime

I'm hoping for Hatchet and Dino strongest of all, and then the rest of the TLK con crew. I also wouldn't mind another Jolt, my only Jolt is the DotM one that is that pale color. it's good, but I'd like a nice dark blue one.
And a new Galvatron, would not mind that at all

I didn't realize the Ferrari license was a problem, I guess I'd be ok if he was a close-but-not-quite-ferrari. I guess it's the opposite of Blitzwing for me, although I'm much more into military aircraft than I am cars.
Also, good thinking with Devcon! Didn't think to mention him, but I'd love to see that design get a figure. He was in the background of DOTM a fair bit, that could happen.

Yeah, I'm surprised there isn't more TLK representation in SS. I would like to see Hot Rod and Barricade, I could see Mohawk being included with Onslaught or something.

Another one I need is a deluxe two pack of the twins. I think they should be about the height of the acree triplets.
A slightly upscaled blackout into grindor would be cool to get also.
As for others I want dino, que, jolt, random protoform (could be a two pack for like $25-30 and they are just robots), and really any other bot that showed up on screen in the movies (except from the BB movie, I don't want any more of them).
My SS dreams would be to get a commander class decepticon ship from Dotm, AoE, and TLK (the smaller ones that flip around). And the last one is a titan class Driller. Shockwave is just not complete without him.
These are my hopes and dreams (that I can think of currently) for SS.
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on March 1st, 2020 @ 11:21pm CST
1. Well, by today's standards the ROTF mold would probably end up at Leader price. And it's big enough for Studio Series, judging by a pic I saw of it next to SS Jetpower Optimus. If they used the HFTD retool (which had the staff and a removable face) that'd be perfect. And he whether or not they used that mold, he would technically transform, because HasTak don't sell mainline TFs that don't transform.
2. The Twins are bigger than the Arcee triplets
3. They're not going to upscale Blackout, that's beyond the scope of this line. Besides, SS Blackout is more at Grindor size anyway.
4. The Generic Decepticon Protoforms would be nice as army builders. They would be given excuse altmodes like the Fallen, and for the same reason.
5. The Decepticon fighters would be cool, but I think they're outside the scope of this line.
6. A Titan-class Driller is right out. It would be cool, but it doesn't transform into anything and I don't think it has enough appeal to get a Titan slot. Plus, even Titan-class wouldn't be enough for it to scale with Leader Shockwave... The best we can hope for is a Leader-class with a miniature Shockwave, and even that's unlikely.

I just want a Leader Infernocus where he splits apart into 5 or 6 bots, and it is literally combined mode to individual demon modes, like the first Devastator. He can't do the larger size classes, but i wish he would get that treatment.
Also, a Titan Driller would be so cool. They are done with titans in G1, they could do a movie Titan now!
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on March 2nd, 2020 @ 6:55pm CST
They're not fully done with Titans in G1, but they're certainly done with new molds. So a movie Titan is a possiblity. I don't know that the Driller is viable though. And can you imagine what kind of horrible excuse vehicle mode (or worse, robot mode) they'd have to give it?
I'd love to see them do a Titan-class Demolishor.

Leaving aside the fact that that's probably beyond the price point's limits... The thing is that Infernocus in the movie was made of 6 identical guys who were all Optimus Prime-sized. It might possible that they could do a Voyager based on that design with a flexible enough transformation to be any part of the combo. Assuming he doesn't cheat too hard for an accurate combination made of individual robots to be feasible. It would be easier if combiner kibble could be included as a way of cheating to achieve the look. But that would probably require a bigger size class, and I doubt people would go for getting six Leader Infernocons... Ultra, maybe. But of course, Ultra class isn't around anymore.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:I think they could make Infernocus work on a Leader level. Take Grimlock, his 4 limbs would be legends sized bots (and they would only need to go between limb and robot) and then have a deluxe-ish torso (again, robot to combiner form). That could fit into the price range, and it would give us a cool Infernocus.
But would enough people go for it? And scale-wise it would work better for it to have a compartment for a Shockwave miniature.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:The Driller, they could make it an attack base mode, he could include a platform area for Shockwave, attack arms, etc. they could totally do it too. And then there's the fact that the design is a convoluted hydra-worm mess. A cool mess, mind you, but still a mess.
Honestly, I think the best way to do the Driller would be as a buildable toy. A base kit of body segments and tentacles, and expansion packs to make it bigger and more complex.
