Huh, there are more sculpting differences than I originally thought:
- Titan Master face
- Chest plate
- Lower arms + panels
- Hip pieces
- Feet
That said, I don't like face plates over face plates

Also the cab and guns

The cab too? May as well consider this version an all new mold, considering there's hardly any part of Ultra Magnus left

That depends on what you considered cheap. I pre-ordered him for $54 dollars, which is less than $10 bucks more than the msrp for Powermaster Prime.
I consider that a pretty good price.
Though at this point, it probably will be harder to find at that price.

Oh wow. I was considering buying the Hasbro version but now that I see the Takara one, I'll probably be getting that one since it's closer to the one I had as a kid.
And I've always wanted Godbomber. So I guess the new Godbomber only works with Ginrai.

Not the whole cab, just the front "doors" that swing open to expose the cockpit giving it a new front end. Though it is still a different cab from Ultra Magnus.

Totally agree; I will be keeping an eye on Amazon.jp for him if his price takes a dip.
MSRP I can't justify, as I have the Hasbro version, but if a deal pops up, I could bite.

Why is it expensive? Because they basically created a new figure out of the mold and painted the crap out of it (and the yen was strong when the online retailers put their orders in for him)
On a related note, I know we like our pre-orders nice and early, but I wonder if it would be better for retailers to hold off on ordering figures like this when the Yen is strong, and waited, a gamble I know, but, just a thought. Seems like the really high prices of some of these figures is driving a lot of people to import sites right now...

I am not sure they could afford that. They could potentially be losing preorders to others who do have it up earlier and all that for just the chance that it might be cheaper later.
What they should do instead is stock on yen when its low and then use it to buy these toys later but they probably dont have enough cash lieing around to do that either. In the end, I think the system they have in place is fine since its predictable and in the end, fans go to these import sites because they dont want to have to worry about importing it themselves so their core customers wouldnt try to import it themselves anyway.
Anyways, looking at the pic of the two of them side by side, I like what Hasbro did, I just wish they had a better grey plastic. Takara's legs are just so off in every which way.

That's what I figured; and I too like the hasbro version, it just looks properly proportional, I don't mind the color, but hope that it's a better quality plastic than magnus, but, I doubt it

So either a box set with God bomber and ginrai? Or it could just be a standalone figure later down the TR line?

According to the list with rumored upcoming releases, these are the ones in a boxset:
- Fastlane
- Cloudraker
- Nautica
- Apex Bomber
- Quickswitch
- Pounce
- Wingspan
- Shockwave
- Tidal Wave
Two box sets if I may add. The name "Magnus Prime" has also been dropped, but details about it are unknown at this time. Also, names are subject to change.
And no, we don't know how Apex Bomber will connect, if it's even possible. A standard release is unlikely, as Godbomber looks like he's between price points in terms of overall size.

Wait, what? Where did Shockwave come from?

Tidal Wave was listed twice, but with a different Chinese name each time. May as well use Armada Tidal Wave's Japanese name Shockwave to differentiate between the two.

Might want to mention that when you bring it up, considering the much more significant and well-known usage of the name Shockwave. I thought we were actually finally gonna get a Voyager G1-esque Shockwave from this line...

True, true... In the mean time I'll try to decipher the names again... And when will people realise you can't copy text from images!

Though you could certainly improve perfection by painting the goddamn wheels

After getting Chromedome, Skids, Arcee, BH GO! Soundwave and Wheelie recently I have just about to go mostly Takara versions from now on. The colours are almost always better/cartoon accurate and a big plus, the plastic seems better. Its got a more metallic, dense, heavy type feel that just makes for a better figure.

Seems like the joints on Takara products are tighter & suffer less from mold degradation too. I say this after getting Hasbro's Liokaiser recently. Everything feels loose on Guyhawk, H(F)ellbat, Kill(Iron)Bison, & Drillhorn.

About the Hb brownish gray, the more it ages the more sucky it looks. Just use the original PMOP as an example, the gray has degraded to the point it like turd brown.

Can't wait to get Jinrai. Sad that God Bomber is not out until May. But gives me time to save up to pay for the Pre-order then.
Anyway, anybody know what the magazine is saying about Hasbro's inferior version there at the bottom left?:
I'm very curious to know.
