The update, namely, includes images of the lineart sketches for the main combiner figure and the Predacons that form it, some prototype and cartoon reference shots, a small comparison with predecessor Devastator, and a colour look at both the Predacon team of Razorclaw, Torox, Headstrong, Divebomb, and Rampage, plus the combined Predaking mode - all found in the next issue of Figure Oh! Magazine. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

And on top of that, all three 3P offerings suck too. TFC looks cool but has terrible build quality, UT's looks decent but again, not brilliantly built and looks iffy not combined, and MMC's, whilst the best built, has some iffy design features (notably the enormous feet).

Sabrblade wrote:He's shorter that Devastator?!?!
Probably because Devastator has that much more mass to work with. Predaking only has 5 voyager figures making up its bulk while Devastator enjoys 6 voyager figures altogether. Predaking doesn't really look that much shorter than Devastator, to be honest. They'll be bookending my display of Decepticon combiners, so the height difference will be even less noticeable for me in hand.

Divebomb's alt mode head size
Predaking's waist size, lack of spiked knuckles, NO SWORDS
this is going to be a 3rd party dream come true...

Boy. That's a lot of cubes.

On the fight aspects, Predaking is already a done deal. Unless there'll be a running change on parts that turn out iffy (like God Ginrai's ankles etc or Trypticon's exploding hips) what you see is what you get. So fighting this behemoth is futile.
Too bad no swords and Takara seems not to be making one since the "unification" business model with Hb.
Flight.
Disappointed? Then don't buy him and avoid the stressor to your psyche aka the Predaking thread.

Black Hat wrote:Honestly? My problem is it isn't modernized enough. "G1 with knees" can work if the original figure was really good anyway (see the Decepticon Targetmasters) but with Predaking, with his unbearably doofy beast modes, questionable robot designs and proportions and...interestingly proportioned combined mode courtesy of Razorclaw being too damn small for his own good, you need to do a hell of a lot of modernizing to make him look even passable. As is, the robot modes are forgettable, the beast modes are actually painful to look at and the combined mode, whilst better proportioned than his G1 self and impressive in size, is painfully lacking in other areas (notably having details that aren't just squares) and doesn't even have his big ol' sword, not to mention how much the combined mode compromised the individuals just because they felt some obsession to keep them all the same size in spite of the fact that plain and simple doesn't work for a five-man traditional combiner and ARGH.
And on top of that, all three 3P offerings suck too. TFC looks cool but has terrible build quality, UT's looks decent but again, not brilliantly built and looks iffy not combined, and MMC's, whilst the best built, has some iffy design features (notably the enormous feet).
Those Preds look very spot on to me. Their very oldscool. And I think they were all about the same size to each other on the G1 show. I'm not 100% sure on that but I've been meaning to rewatch season 3 again. At least the good episodes. Though Predaking shoulda had spiked fists and a sword.

Back in the day we used to have a bunch of different magazines like ToyFare, Lee's Action Figure News and Toy Review, and Tomart's Action Figure Digest among others. Early ToyFare magazines came with posters and I had them all over my bedroom wall in the 90s like most teens had bikini babes. Unfortunately all of these magazines no longer exist. Japan has a different print culture since people spend so much of their time commuting on trains giving them more time to flip through magazines and manga anthologies.

God, I miss Toyfare. We had a flood in our basement a few years ago, and my comic book box with every single issue of ToyFare printed (maybe save 2 or 3) was destroyed. I legit shed a tear over it.

Something tells me this brand cohesion between Hasbro and Takara was driven by Hasbro's concerns over lost sales from Takara's "Better" versions. I'm sure if they were left to their own devices, swords would be the start of what Takara would improve.

Still, a Takara one would be much more expensive. Plus dealing with shipping and customs.
Meh, there WILL be a 3P upgrate kit / weapon pack soon enough. ¯\_ツ_/¯

Unless it's been confirmed by Hasbro that this will be an online exclusive I would think that it will at least show up at think geek. Those are usually found in malls in the us, I dont know if they are anywhere else.

Congratulations Hasbro, you gave PREDAKING more womanly proportions than TR Arcee.
I would totally buy an actually intentionally female set of amazonian Predacons though.

Well all it takes is looking at it. The wings are folded down in predatking mode and not in divebombs condor mode. So no obviously the wings always stay in. The arms seem short but the individual robot legs which are the elbows seem longer so again the arms are naturally short.
Seriously you can’t figure out its mistransformed. Someone need to tell you even with photos in front of you.

I too went for UW Devastator, I dont regret it one bit either. I vote with my wallet and Takara went the extra mile for him (plus the price was the same as Hasbro so why not). But with this guy, I will definitely not be buying at full price. If me saving money on this Predaking means no more poorly done Titan Class figures coming out, then so be it.

Well, there is a rumor, albeit one that pops up pretty frequently, that Predaking is going to be watched by Hasbro. This rumor postulates that Fort Max and Trypticon did not sell out like Metroplex and Devy did (although I have never seen hard $$ numbers), an Hasbro may have saturated their market of "Big Figures". If he sells, proving there is still room in the market for more Titan figures, then they'll keep going, but if Preds sits until Blowout Prices then we may not be getting any more for a while.

Well, Fort Max was just a weak figure. Everyone saw it and decided to wait for a sale. Heck, Hasbro themselves didn't put a full budget into it. What did they expect?
As for Trypy, I think a few people were put off by the QC issues but I might be wrong on that.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. If my buying Predaking at full-price solely to support the continuation of the Titan class means that we'll get more Titans of Predaking's caliber, I don't need those to exist anyway to be honest.

I don't think Predaking would have the express purpose of being a test, but it's possible(?) that Hasbro will watch his sales carefully and if he does really bad they might pull the plug on Titans. (Though, to be fair, every single Titan so far has had that rumor surrounding them, and it hasn't been true yet.) If it is the case though, then there are only two options consumers can vote for with their wallets - no more Titans, or a continuation of the Titan class with more figures on par with Predaking. And if those are the choices, I guess I really don't care enough to want the Titan class to continue...
Man, I don't wanna be a downer! I'm really looking forward to a potential Omega Supreme in the coming years, and I like the Titan class as a concept. I adore UW Devastator, Trypticon is pretty great, and Fort Max isn't that bad either! I'm just not a big fan of this Predaking at all, so I just end up sounding unenthusiastic about the whole concept

Thanks. Yeah that was a bit rude of that guy. I could tell the wings weren't up properly but the general body proportions seemed so off but I couldn't tell if it was bad posing, mistransformation or the toy is just that wonky. A lil bit of all of those it would seem. An easy pass.

This. Titans, at their current size with the current budget, are disasters for the most part. Either keep the price and scale them down so they have more plastic and parts to work with, or keep them the same size but put the price/budget up.
I miss old Supreme toys.

And sadly with the Titan class, I must agree. Predaking looks to be the weakest of the 5, and that is saying something when you look at their effort with Fort Max. He is 5 voyagers for $150, maybe $175, he has a few small guns that combine to form an arm cannon in combined mode, and that's about it. And the individuals are quite weak too. I'm here hoping for a Titan Primus, Unicron, Omega, Tidal Wave, and maybe Scorponok, and I would be sad if they got this level of respect in the toyline.
Trypticon and Devastator were fantastic to me, I adore both. But here, I really wish they would have worked with him more before releasing him. It's just not that good, and I cannot justify even buying him this year.
