Like the rest of the line, the Katakana uses the old Japanese name for these toys while the name in latin letters is the name the character is known as in the west. The best example is Blaster who is called Braodcast in Katakana with the english name being Blaster. Another interesting point is how Takara still beleives in the oldschool idea of packaging at least some of their releases in alt mode, like Blaster in his "Device Deck" mode (can't be a tape deck if it doesnt use tapes).

I dont know if better, but most definitely good in their own right. And to me this is the best. I got really pissed off last year with the RID line comparing Takara's products where I really felt jipped to see how much Takara cared about bringing out some cool details and making them collecting worthy while Hasbro didnt seem to give two shits. but with the TR line, along with some CW toys this year, hasbro really upped their game in terms of making their toys just as collecting worthy, with precise referencing and detail. I love their trend this year of using tampographs to bring back sticker detail. Its really cool on legends groove for instance and its to die for on CW Trailbreaker. The only weak one I found so far was Blurr but for all the rest of Titans Return, hasbro has been giving us some great stuff and I really dont feel I have an inferior product in the least.
PS: I would have liked all the Hasbro smartphones to have the tape background, the tech stats on Rumble and Ravage seem a bit off.

That's just how the English word "broadcast" is spelled in Katakana. "Burōdokyasuto"william-james88 wrote:Just curious, but why for Blaster in Katakana, why did they use the "ya" in the third to last symbol rather than the "a" one? It comes out to burodokiyasuto instead of burodokiasuto.
Some words just use the キャ "kya" character instead of the カ "ka" character to approximate the "ka"/"ca" sound of foreign words. Another Transformers example that does this would be how the name of the Headmaster Junior "Cancer" is rendered as キャンサー "Kyansā".

Sabrblade wrote:It just hit me that the name of Weirdwolf's Partner Drone, the Apeface redeco, is the word "gorilla" with its Katakana spelled backwards: "Rarigo" (or "Llarigo", if you wish to keep to the English spelling of the word "gorilla").
What, does it play MMOs or something? It's pretty common for Japanese MMO players to reorder the katakana in their real names to make their player names.

His mouthplate in MTMTE is removeable - and I would be getting him for MTMTE; I don't really care about how much it looks like the original toy or Headmasters - so this could work for me. Plus if I eventually get wallgreens/SDCC Brainstorm it could be fun to ocassionally swap out his normal head for his faceplateless one. And the black used sort of makes him look like he jumped out a comic page.
Only problem is the price... especially when I'm trying to decide on another relatively high-priced investment (MP Road Rage, currently on sale for £35)

Little too much brown for my tastes; nearing Hasbro blue-rr levels. Or kinda looks like he's wearing a brown set of dungarees.

But for Chromedome, Highbrow and Brainstorm I prefer Takara's bodies with, I think, Hasbro's heads.
CD & HB heads are consistent enough between both companies in way of having either a mouth or a plate. But not Brainstorm.
Takara's Brainstorm's head is actually pretty Rebirth-y aside for the mouth. So I think I'm going to try to give him a 3D print plate that tabs into these two slots.
Unless someone wants to come up with a cheap "upgrade kit" featuring Rebirth-accurate faces.

So Tarantulas hacked Metroflex to get him to fight 'max who was "sick" and recuperating? Also, There can be only one who can use Fortress' transtector unlike the other Hms who can trade bodies or only 'bots to 'bots and 'cons to 'cons?

Yeah, maybe firewall against Decepticon hijackers. Or maybe Weirdwolf was overwhelmed by Fortress' power.

Hmm...I guess that the Autobots don't have much of a clothing budget for T-Ai, unless they're just a bit too eager to see a nearly nude human female.

Ehe... that's one of the many retcons from... wait for it...
Kiss Play Position!
Long story short, lots of time/dimensions traveling, RiD Fortress Maximus was used in the past to protect something, and G1 Fortress Maximus is based on him. The End.

It's a reference to Kiss Players Position, in which Brave Maximus got sent back in time to crash-land on the Planet Master, where Fortress would see it crash and take inspiration from Brave Maximus to perfect his Headmaster technology and construct Battleship Maximus.Railbomb wrote:So what's with the beat up Brave Maximus early on? Hmmmm...and given that the Maximus battleship configuration and the Macross are probably loosely based on Whitebase, I believe that particular time travel trope is an Inverse-Macek-Loop.Sabrblade wrote:It's a reference to Kiss Players Position, in which Brave Maximus got sent back in time to crash-land on the Planet Master, where Fortress would see it crash and take inspiration from Brave Maximus to perfect his Headmaster technology and construct Battleship Maximus.Railbomb wrote:So what's with the beat up Brave Maximus early on? BullsEye!
Kind of also a bit like how the Ark crashed into prehistoric Earth. Fortress reversed engineered the divine sourced technology into what would become planet Master's super science which G1 Optimus Prime didn't use back in the year 2000 up 'cause another retcon had Brave Max becoming the core of Autobot City aside from Metroplex being the mobile sentient portion of it. Just imagine if Optimus reversed engineered brave Max back then, then the war would have been over.

Btw, sort of a reverse. In the original G1, Cerebros/Fortress is smaller than the regular Hm. Now, it's him who is taller (the head version compared to the deluxe Hms).

Wait, I've never seen this done before. Is this something intentional that Hasbro/TT forgot to tell us about or is it just something he figured out? There's no real need for this, but it's strange coincidence if it wasn't intended. When one of TT's designers does this it feels intentional.

This is the first time we've seen this right? I had no idea the whole head was white and blue, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I mean the helmet covers it, and it's not a deal breaker but it's unexpected.
