- The two possible looks for Devastator's head
- The Box (and Cyberpath even shows a comparison picture to the Hasbro box which was slightly altered for this release)
Devastator is to be released at the middle of next month.

Seriously, I've wanted a new Devy since I read War Within for the first time back in 2010. And to be so close...

Bounti76 wrote:What's up with Scavenger having two different shades of purple on his treads?
I'm guessing it's either a different plastic for the sake of different resistances needed on each part and the colours didnt quite come out the same, or that it's pretty hard to match purple paint to the purple plastic.
Could even be a trick of the light, I dunno. I'm actually partially colourblind.

The SDCC one seems to have the most details, whether by decal or tampos, but I'm honestly not enamored of the pinkish-purple chrome. The gunmetal of the treads on that version is the best of the three Devastators and most uniform. The SDCC box is the most attractive of the three, while Takara's is the plainest, though colored correctly. I wish that Has/Tak had at least used the plastic tray inserts in both their sets instead of the cheap-looking cardboard.
The $600.00 price for 3P not-Devastators is beyond me, so this Takara one is my best option for a cartoon-accurate, better-articulated , 6-in-one, king of the gestalts. We need more YouTube reviews of this version, but I'm already sold!

As far as I know, Takara doesnt send out review copies and unlike Hasbro, they run a really tight ship for release dates. Everyone gets their devastators at the same time, so those who preordered it might get it before there are full reviews of him.

Dengeki Hobby put up a video review (which was horrible, the hamhanded lady snapped the leg off of bonecrusher and couldn't transform thr damn thing with the instructions right in front of her) do you think that means he's ready to drop? I could be getting my preorder filled any day now?

I was referring to english reviews. Or reviews coming from westerners. I dont think Takara has sent any reiew copies to people like Optibotimus or Emgo. But they surely sent it to Dengeki Hobby (maybe as an exclusive). So sorry if I was not clear. I dont think our preorders will be filled before mid december.

Defensor on Dec 12, according to Takara Mall.
And Devastator too, according to Amazon Japan. Though it might change.

I was going by Robot Kingdom so who knows. To be honest I really, really hope not. That's a lot of coin to drop at one time on that day.

A very biased and critical cheerleader. January is still quite faraway. Guardian I expect this early January given how jammed up all the shipping is this holiday season Who knows when Devs is a coming?

I re-watched the "The Master Builders" earlier today. This awesome episode is sure to make you even more excited about this release.

He's as painted as the Hasbro version at least.

While I do agree he has less paint, and in some areas it is not as good as the Hasbro one, some of his paint is better places, such as in the treads of his arm components. Overall, he still is good though. With some of the hasbro paint he would have been irresistible

Yeah... that's not saying much;
Sorry, I think that this is just another case of 'TT Defensor Syndrome' where it's 'properly painted' but since it looks like the lazily drawn/colored cartoon, it doesn't say much for it.
I like a healthy amount of paint apps/painted details on the tf's that I buy (especially if they are gonna be that large)

This is such a welcome change to the drab looking Hasbro one. Look at the colours from the begining of his forearm to the end of his fingers, its just all boring black plastic.
Takara improves this more than people are letting on. Hasbro's is the one whose combined mode looks like unpainted ass:

WJ - I keep meaning to tell you this, but it's "treads" not "threads". Like the bottom of your shoes not the string by which they are sewn together.

All his wheels are painted, like in the G1 cartoon, plus he has that added silver on the left foot which works wonders, and he has Bonecrisher's inner threads painted to match the other side. And finally, while it isnt paint, they use an extra plastic colour to give him the correct purple hands AND they paint both the inside missiles of the transformed inner hands plus give a nice grey painted line in the forearm to breakup all that black.

I'll grant you the wheels, those were a godsend. And hasbro's version is about as cheaply made as possible.
But they could have added something to break up the absolute sea of nasty constructicon green. Even if all they did was add some visual flairs to the combined mode, like hazard stripes across the thighs, or scuffing on the buckets' teeth (scrappers specifically), pick out some details like ladders or stuff in silver, or color the exhaust vents black, something, anything, there's so much green...

Oh I know, but I really wanted to address the idea of paint apps because there seems to be a few that think Takara has let us down with this release and looking at the combined mode, I have a hard time understanding why. I mean, those TREADS pop out right away

I agree with all that. Hence why I am glad the takara version at least has more color with the hands, and more silver here and there.

Yeah, the hands/arms are great, but the green on the legs goes on forever, it's all I can see when I look at it, it draws my eyes to it, like a black hole of neon green plastic. It would've been cool if they put some insignia's on mixy a'la rotf mixy; or colored the hydraulics on scrappers lift-arm; just something to interrupt the huge patches of green or purple.

all in all, in combined mode the differences are minimal.

Yeah, the legs need something to break up the green to keep from looking like lime green bricks-for-stilts

Anyway, looking at those comparison shots, it's true that the Devastator deco is pretty similar between the two, it's the individual constructicons that are pretty different. And I don't give a crap about purple hands, personally.
