The tank alt mode is cool, but not in a F/R way. I'm very happy with my PE versions, so obviously these won't replace them.... but I am having a hard time justifying buying these guys for even cheap retail price when I can't find much I like about them besides their names
I know for people who didn't want to spend the 50-60$ for the PE versions, this is their best bet... but for the majority of us that go for character likeness over all else, there is no comparison

I'm not really interested in the PE versions as they are too costly for my taste. That and the fact that they don't look that good for $60+. Besides, when it comes to third parties, I only go Fansproject.

I can neither confirm nor deny that allegation
It looks good so far, no doubt about it. The price and the overall quality on the entire thing, however, will have the final say if I break my rule or not.

The PE versions never tempted me because they're just not made to interact with Soundwave ... and worse yet they interact with "Ultra Magnus"! Bugs me to the point where I didn't bother getting them.

Same here, I've only ever got one other third party item that wasn't Fansproject made and despite how cool it is, I continue to struggle with whether or not that much cool was worth that much green compared to an FP product.
Mind you I'm always tempted by other companies efforts, but never enough to fall through in the end... or at least fall through without regrets, and Perfecteffect's little figures do not look like they can surpass that.

I (fortunately) did not waste my money on the unofficial overpriced trash that was PE's Rumble and Frenzy so having a proper representation of the Cassete brothers in the Classics line is excellent for me.

That's dumb.
What do you know if they are trash or not? You didn't buy them, so your opinion is just hyperbole in support of your decision/justification to go the less expensive route.
You may not like the look of the Perfect Effect figures, but calling them trash is straight up ignorant.

Those rubsign stickers peel off really, REALLY easily, just the nature of them being kinda stiff. The ones on my Battle in Space set were off in less than 10 seconds with no residue.

They're not trash because they look bad (which I do think they do) they're trash because they're $60 tiny pieces of plastic that were made to have people waste money on in order to profit from the success of somebody elsé's product. It's my opinion on 3rd Party Products as a whole. They're trash making money from a franchise they don't own. Not in the way of junk in a trashcan but because of how you refer to thieves as trash. In my opinion its stealing. Transformers is not their property and I don't think its right for them to be allowed to make figures in order to make money riding the surf of Transformer's earned success. I hope that makes sense, I don't think I'm wording it properly...
I know I'm a minority, but it irks me when people are passing by good official products like this figure because they've spent money on something that is not giving the profit to the company that actually owns the franchise. To me, its downright stealing.

yea I hear ya, thats why I painted mine. It sucks they don't have legit alt modes that I care about, but it wasn't like a Cassette alt mode has much play value to it anyway
and hasbro gets so much of my money anyway that I don't feel bad buying 3d party items. You forget that most of these 3rd party items REQUIRE a hasbro product to even function. PE and Defender are the exception. There is an argument to be had that Hasbro is seeing more sales on dead figures because of 3rd party companies. Thats a whole different can of worms though.
Suffice to say that the robot modes of the PE tapes in relation to my Music Label soundwave was alone worth the money to me. And when you have been such a seasoned collector as I am, you know that looking at your shelf and being happy with the choices you've made is worth the extra money you might have spent along the way for the more "premium" figure choices

I don't need my toys to be G1 accurate, but when NEITHER mode is even close, I'm not interested.
Just because they got the head right and he has piledrives does NOT make him Rumble.

Head, pile drivers and chest. That's more than enough. Besides, who still uses cassettes these days? Do the kids even know them?

I think one point that stands in regards to the PE figures over these is that they still maintain the component aspect of the original characters. The tapes went in G1 Soundwave and likewise WFC Soundwave or your stand in Soundwave can wield the PE versions.
The tank modes don't really tie them to Soundwave in any way (yet). All that and still I think these new figures are actually pretty nice.

That's what I was wondering. But, the forth pic down kind of looks like a possible third "combined" mode waiting to happen. Unless that picture is showing us something I'm missing.

Good call...maybe that is what it's supposed to be showing. I thought that was just one of those terrible "battle modes" they like to do these days, be it official or fan-made.

These p*** all over the PE figures - cheaper, bigger, better quality, better paint job.
Well done to PE for doing a pretty good job with their sets but I think the RTS/United figures look really good. Pre-ordered!

I disagree with the thought here. Other than the iGear Mini-MP line, the Hasbro/Third Party relationship isn't love-hate. It isn't even one or the other. Even in the case of PE's not Rumble and not Frenzy. Id imagine PE made them to be our Neo-G1 Rumble and Frenzy that Hasbro had not made yet. But, since it was likely and Hasbro is putting out a Rumble/Frenzy mold, PE decided to make their figures have another purpose: to upgrade FP' City Commander which was made to upgrade an OFFICIAL Hasbro product. PE is pretty much doing this with their whole line.
My point is, the relationship is beneficial to both companies, and us, as fans. I think Hasbro realizes this and that is why they aren't crashing down on them.

The closest thing to a cassette my 6 year old knows is a Nintendo DS game cartridge. I showed him a VCR tape once and he asked me if there was a couple of little DVD's inside of it
