LOL, it just occurred to me, this little guy is the original Minimus Ambus.
Edit: March? Bummer, I thought it was February. I missed that announcement. Oh well, gives my wallet more time to recover from the holidays.
BTW, the shield is not an exclusive, right?

The toy was like that. It had the details of the larger form molded into itself. It was just completely unpainted (unless the silver on its face is paint).kirbenvost wrote:It's... a miniature version of himself? The head, the torso, the shoulders, the forearms, the knees, and the feet were all meant to look like this:

I never realized the original brain of courage had all that molded in detail. I just bought it because I thought it looked cool. Learned about Victory way later.

So it does! Shockingly, I never took that close a look at images of the little guy until now, lol. I can't complain about that then. Well done Takara!

Close. Inner robot is just "Saber". Super Robot is "Star Saber". The Brain has no name (other than "Yuuki no Brain").fenrir72 wrote:SkyWarpt wrote:Ok...this guy looks cool, but I'm kind of confused. How many robots is this?

So the "Jet" is just "Saber" and the Vstar combo is "Star Saber"? Got it.

No. He's got a core robot. UM MP doesn't.
Now that we're at it, for those who own the original Brainmasters, if an MP version, no matter how unlikely, will be created, does the core 'bot look like a mini me version of the transector body?

The way Saber and the V-Star combine is more like Powermaster Optimus Prime than Ultra Magnus.

So they are mini me versions of their trantectors!

I'd actually be inclined to think that it's a reverse of the Transtector concept thing this time, with the Brains being, well, brains, and the larger bodies being the actual Cybertronians.fenrir72 wrote:So they are mini me versions of their trantectors!
In Jean's explanation of them, he refers to the Brains as "meka", which means "mechanism" or in some cases "device", "gizmo", "gadget", etc., as though the Brains are each simply a component of the larger Brainmaster person, rather than being full living beings themselves.
After all, the fiction seemed to only depict them as an aspect of each Brainmaster's transformations, unlike the Headmasters, Targetmasters, Headmaster Juniors, and Godmasters.

A mobile brain perhaps....though I might be thinking too much, make a very vulnerable target.

I'd agree, though, I don't think they were removed from the bodies in either mode except for during the transformation sequences, in which they seemed to turn into some kind of energy form upon their reentering the bodies, suggesting some kind of mystical nature to them if not simply done for a cool visual effect.fenrir72 wrote:A moble brain perhaps..though I might be thinking too much, make a very vulnerable target.

I'll deviate a bit to another anime but a bit related. In the 1980 Astroboy, Astro had an andrgynous looking foe called Zeus. Long hair pretty boy style with gossamer wings who assasinated a lot of other robots. It had a mobile brain module that could separate and function separately as the main body could also function independently even with the brain was away. The module btw looked like a dorky duckling (not kidding).
The concept was a decade or so before Victory.Relevance? It's quite intriguing that even in the early 80's, the concept and story tellers were quite advance for their time. I don't know if this was the inspiration for Victory or was it Jeeg with it's "headmaster" like concept, or even Diaclone too with the human pilot concept.
I'm getting aead of myself but the "Three Musketeers" in Victory really do need the MP treatment.

It's probably just the standard Japanese trope that humans control robots. Sentient robots are considered kiddie and odd.

I mean like how most beings hold a sword. I don't see a ball joint either but I'm hoping the wrist pulls out and there's a hidden hinge or something.

You mean having the sharp edge facing forward, right? They gave him an interchangable, longer sword hilt for that, if that's what you're talking about.

Ooooooh, it looks like there may be some design trickery going on here. It looks like the hilt, made up of wings of what I assume is supposed to represent the nose of the plane, are not completely centered, allowing for clearance from the high points of the wrist armor. Very clever, Takara!

Waiting to buy mine also. Hoping it's not late and gets released on time.
Love how many newer mold MP Transformers toys Takara is making each year. Hoping the fast pace keeps going. Wondering and excited to see which bigger MP TF character toys Takara makes next. My wish list is MP Galvatron, MP Overlord, MP Sixshot, MP Blitzwing, MP Astrotrain.

I can now reveal that MP Star Sabre was the third translation/adaptation job that I was doing for Hasbro. However, the English bio is completely different and unrelated to the Japanese one. The Japanese bio is based on Star Sabre's appearance in Transformers Victory, where he was -- character-wise -- basically a clone of Optimus Prime (re: flawless heroic saviour archetype). The English bio is based on IDW Star Sabre, where Star Sabre is an incredibly dark character.
In the Japanese booklet, Star Sabre's function is "Autobot Supreme Commander." For the Hasbro version, his function has been changed to 'Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord' (at times abbreviated to 'Tyrest Accord Enforcer' or just "Autobot Enforcer" in different parts of the booklet). Japanese G1 tech specs don't have mottos, and I only had access to the booklet and not the tech specs card (so I have no idea if TakaraTOMY have newly created a motto for him), but the motto I created for the Hasbro version is "Quidquid facio sancitur divinitus.", which is Latin for "Everything I do is divinely sanctioned." -- and yes, I have written the motto in both Latin and English (as I did for Stinger ).
More reveals to come.

TakaraTOMY writes their MP bios from a Japanese continuity POV for their market (e.g. MP22's bio makes references to Scramble City), so I felt that for Hasbro's release, I'd like to go in the other direction and write it from an Anglophone continuity perspective for Hasbro's markets -- hence why I removed all mention of Scramble City from MP22's bio, but I did name his weapon the "Ambus Class laser gun." But small continuity discrepancies aside, Ultra Magnus is essentially the same character in both Japanese and Western continuities. This isn't the case with Star Sabre, so adapting his bio for Hasbro presented me with the opportunity to be a lot more creative and complete reinvent his bio based on his appearances in the IDW comics. I've also made references to the G1 Motorvators (the Hasbro versions of the Brainmasters; although Star Sabre was the only Brainmaster never released by Hasbro as a Motorvator during G1 ).

william-james88 wrote:It seems Masterpiece Star Sabre is going to get a limited english language release through Hasbro's distribution. Hasbro Australia's employee GOKTIMUS PRIME (self chosen pseudonym) revealed today, on Talk Transformers facebook fan page, that he has translated the Star Sabre bio for Hasbro, and has also made it entirely different from the japanese bio. The full quote is below. It should be noted that this release is most probably limited to the Australian market where Hasbro also helped distribute Takara's recent Ultra Magnus and Bumblebee, which showed up in Australian Toysrus stores.I can now reveal that MP Star Sabre was the third translation/adaptation job that I was doing for Hasbro.
