Transformers Masterpiece MP-19+ Smokescreen Exclusive

Under the supervision of Nissan, this Masterpiece Smokescreen features a realistic vehicle mode, colored to match his appearance in the animated series. The updated head sculpt recreates the shape featured in the series as well. Smokescreen comes with interchangeable facial expressions along with smoke effects, jamming launchers, and disruptor rifle.

Transformers Masterpiece MP-47 Hound

Based on the original cartoon series, the Autoboot warrior Hound joins the Transformers Masterpiece figure line. Hound is a fully poseable figure and transforms into an armored Jeep that features realistically reproduced details under the supervision of Fiat Chrysler Automobile. Hound’s hood can be opened, cab can be removed, and can be driven by the included Spike figure or the hologram driver.

Transformers Masterpiece MP-46 Blackwidow

From the animated series Beast Wars, Blackwidow joins the Transformers Masterpiece line. Blackwidow is highly poseable including articulated spider legs and includes 2 face plates options of smiling and screaming. Blackwidow transforms from robot to a large spider and can be perched upon the included spider effect.

Hounds "smile" face reminds me of something from Invasion of the Body Snatchers

I don't know what it is but there is just something about Smokescreen's aesthetic that makes him so much more appealing than Prowl & co.

This also confirms that MP Blackarachnia is staying displayed in Bot Mode, forever. That mish-mash of joints with legs, is probably the worst Beast Mode to date. At least from the front.

That Smokescreen have big Animated vibes with that face.

I think what separates Smokescreen from his moldmates largely comes down to three major factors. The first being his general color scheme. Apart from the basic fact that red, yellow, and blue are the three primary colors and are just naturally appealing to us, his colors also pop more than Prowl’s black and white and Bluestreak’s black and silver. The other major factor is that head sculpt. He’s got a lot of character compared to the old head. Largely do to the smaller and more tightly grouped facial features. It makes that chin really jut out, giving him a more confident, commanding presence. The third is swapping out the black parts for more of a charcoal grey. That softens up his appearance, and separates him from the non-plus MP figures. He’s not quite as severe.

Hounds front wheel gaurds look a little bit wonky, hopefully they connect in place better.

Black Arachnia beast mode...I thought the pic was some kind of Megabolt Megatron redeco or something -need to see it from more angles because that def isnt a good one. Maybe if they had worked under the supervision of arachnid enthusiaists it might have been better :P

Yeah, Blackarachnia looks killer in bot mode but alt mode is well less than stellar. I like the added canopy accessory for hound, adds a unique look to alt mode.

So, a theoretical question.

If HasTak said 'Yes' to Masterpiece Combiner Teams tomorrow, how would you like them to be made? A HasLab priced boxset? A one in five releases figure? Or even something really atypical akin to a Legends Build-A-Figure IE pieces included with a given number of MP releases??

If Takara would make MP combiners, they could go the Studio Series route. Release the members one at a time over months or years. To soften the blow, they should release the Scramble City combiners first. One :BOT: and one :CON: teams at the same time, one pair of bots at a time. I'd vote for Bruticus VS Defensor first.

I too would want them to go one release at a time over the course of a year or so. That would be the smart choice. Don't slam them all out at once either

It's not just a matter of overwhelming the customer. The toy makers themselves would make one hell of a gamble to spend YEARS doing the concept, prototyping, and manufacturing 5 over-engineered bots. Then they would release the team as a 1000$ set and not many would be able to buy the thing. Resulting in HasTak losing money and cancelling the combiners altogether.

So, one bot at a time, slowly, is the best solution for both the customer and the manufacturer.

At the very least, the Aerialbot limbs could share some engineering to save on engineering costs.

There's also the scale issue with Devastator. Each members would be as big as Optimus and would most likely be 250$-300$ EACH as a result.

Hasui had design ideas for a potential MP Devastator and used those ideas in designing UW Devastator, as it was determined that UW Devastator would probably be the closest opportunity Hasui would get in actually making a MP Devastator.

Do you think he meant that as "I probably won't be working here anymore by the time Takara will design a MP Devastator" or as "it's basically impossible that we'll see a MP Devastator due the costs of producing it"?

It was probably "This is the closest we may ever get to actually making a MP Devastator, so I better make the most of this opportunity to make this UW Devastator as close to a reasonable stand-in for a legit MP Devastator."

That is also why they would (theoretically) use Devastator and NOT a Scramble City Gestalt as the first MP. It requires a bit more engineering than to have a specific bot for a given limb. Which would mean a lot more work for MP standard. To be honest I've never really seen the merit in Scramble City Combiners. The limbs are interchangeable but they typically only look decent with certain bots in certain places anyway. So the element of "choice" is ultimately superfluous.

I think had the idea gone ahead in diaclone the colour schemes would have been crazy, though strictly speaking the idea of having spare limbs or the ability to use other combiner limbs has merit M, as it means that one fatality won't cripple the whole team.

I think the original intention of the gimmick in Jizai Gattai was to allow for kids to mix and match their own combinations for variety and imagination, rather than strictly grouping together all of the limbs and torsos into assigned unit. Sure, they probably still would have been for marketing purposes, but I would imagine that the intent was to encourage kids to also mix and match limbs and torsos as though variety was the main selling point gimmick.
Re: New Images of Masterpiece Hound, Blackarachnia and MP+ Smokescreen from Malaysia Asia Comic Con (2043957)
Posted by AllNewSuperRobot on November 6th, 2019 @ 5:11pm CST
Indeed. But some bots clearly look better as a leg than an arm and vice-versa. So the mix and match gimmick was purely a marketing one. For all the talk of 'variety' I'd imagine most people probably ended with the exact same combination as the fan next to them.

Piranacon being a good example of that.

Thanks to eagle-eyed Seibertronian Bucky, we have some very interesting news to report. As can be gathered by the title of this story, there has been a listing created for the previously unannounced MP-49, which site sponsor BBTS has as Black Convoy! It's fairly safe to assume that this figure will be a "Nemesis Prime" recolor of MP-44 (aka Convoy/Optimus Prime 3.0) in his traditional black, teal, and red colors. The previous Black Convoy Masterpiece figure is shown below.

What do you all think of this out-of-nowhere listing? Will it turn out to be genuine? Are you excited about this potential figure? Let us know below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com for the latest in Transformers news!

I'm sceptical about it, because it has a real number. The Prime redeco/Nemesis MP is typically MP-10B, for example. So this one would naturally be MP-44B, not its own number.

I'd normally agree, but MP-38 kinda threw any and all rationalization for the ID number system out the window.

I'd be almost willing to bet money its just a repaint. The number system means absolute jack shit to Takara, so never assign any meaning to it.

On the plus side, for those of you (justifiably) turned off by the price, maybe this one will not come with a trailer and all the accessories, and thus be a $100 or so cheaper?

I would like a MP-44 Nemesis Prime that have NO trailer nor extra bits appart the axe and the gun. Then make it 50% cheaper and you get a sale.
However, maybe Takara will troll us by making him a full set that is DOUBLE the normal price because it will be a something-or-other exclusive.

No, it just got that way on the secondary market before being reissued. MP-10B was ~140, MP-10 with trailer and all that was ~200-220 back then. Later reissues of both were some % less expensive which definitely doesn't help the recollection of how much they were.

I was sure we had given up on the numbers making sense. They don't. Since Takara clearly doesn't care about the numbers, we shouldn't either.

Also, in my usual self I will say this, anyone expecting more than a standard redeco will be dissapointed.

Again, the number itself has no real significance. At best it denotes either retooling or just straight redeco with new accessories, like these guys:

MP-31 Delta Magnus
MP-37 Artfire
MP-38 Convoy (Beast Wars) Legendary Supreme Commander Ver. (aka the toy-accurate one)
MP-40 Targetmaster Hot Rodimus

The number in itself, unlike the others mentioned, bears precedent. Every single Nemesis Prime in the MP line to date has been a 'B' listing of a corresponding Prime. All three of them:
