The biggest surprise from yesterday's article on IGN showing the new Transformers Earthrise figures was Ironworks. The name being connected to the Micromaster base was a good clue but we never thought it would mean that actual base becoming a robot. We have an extra image of that newly revealed toy which shows just how modular it is. We knew it was a partsformer who could disassemble from a base and become a robot but now we see that it is modular and the base can be reconnected in more than just one. That means that the possibilities will be nearly endless once we get more of these figures into the mix. Below you will see that new image coming from Hasbro as well as the other mages we got. Let us know if you are excited for this guy and be sure to watch the live stream from NYCC to see the new reveals. You can click here to get all the details on the scheduling.

I want Ironworks so bad. I hope he is the first of several of the Micromaster bases to come out.

The more I see, the more I like.

Fingers crossed we'll get other Micromaster bases like this (Hot House, Greasepit, Airwave...).

Way better than repaints of other figures!

Will the base parts also fit onto other transformers like the Brunte and company?

Yes and no? Depends on exactly what you mean. They have 5mm pegs and holes, so they can certainly be be used the same was as other weaponizers and armor up regular deluxe/voyager/leader figures. But the ramp connectors will only work with the newer style connectors found so far on Siege Omega Supreme and Astrotrain and Earthfall Optimus and Grapple (sort of).

For Grapple, people pointed out that he has 1/2 of a connector on his grapple/claw. It just dawned on me that you can use Grapple to "build" Ironworks :michaelbay:

You could always purchase a Cyberverse Spark Armor Shockwave, take and repaint his solar panels to use as those parts. It'll be four instead of three but it'll work in a pinch.

*EDIT* No sooner do I click submit then go onto Facebook do I see Prize Inside! from Shapeways already designed them. That really was quick.

I'd want Greasepit's Petrol Station next as well as it's the only other one I had/still have. Then of course Hothouse's Fire Station and Airwave's Airport as I never had the originals and would greatly appreciate having updates to them. Especially with robot modes of their own.

Airwave, for 2 reasons. I have the original (needs some TLC) gifted by my grandmother, and his Autobot counterpart Overair is in the Micromaster 10-pack like Irontread is for Ironworks. I think he is next, actually.

The more I think about it, I appreciate how Weaponizers have been used as a *catch all* for a lot of the oddities in TF over the past year, and coming into its second year. First used as releases for some of the Titans smaller components, then for Powerdashers, now as re visualizations of Micromaster Stations, there is a lot of potential. (I see some calling them bases, which is a larger item such as Countdown, see paragraph 4 ;) )

The word "all" in catch all being the empirical term however. We will be getting *all* three Powerdashers through the Selects Line and Amazon. There is still at least one Titan component outstanding (Fasttrack), which many including myself assume we will get, but perhaps not.

It seems likely, but unfortunately Hasbro has also been known to leave things unfinished. We only got 8 of the 1513 Primes as standard releases with Pretender Shells for PotP.

Also, I think the idea of releasing Countdown along with Omega Supreme was pretty ingenious, kill 2 birds with one BIG ROCKET ;) . But in looking at other 89/90 Micromaster bases, one wonders how they could be re imagined in this modern era? Who could they be partnered with?

I suspect that, for 'simmetry' we might see a Micromaster with this year's very likely Decepticon Titan (who, by elimination MUST be Scorponok). Now who exactly I don't know.

I believe if in 2020 we do get Scorponok, he will have the headmaster gimmick since Apeface will still have it when he's released later this year. BUT!!! Like Metroplex and Trypticon he will come with a deluxe to attach to. I bet that deluxe will somehow convert into the full size head part and follow the micromaster station play pattern to form a station/throne for Scorponoks base mode!

While I like these reveals and am excited to see where the line goes from here, I can’t help but feel disappointed that we’ve moved away from Cybertron too quickly. One line with Cybertronian alt modes is too few. How many G1 vehicle mode refreshes do we need? I loved the Siege idea of a similar, but futuristic, take on the alt modes of the characters we love. So many missed opportunities:

If three lines of Cybertronian vehicles were too many (and I’d argue no for that), why not save the Earthrise plot for the end? I’m sure I’m the minority here, but why not Siege, Exodus, then Earthrise? I hope this isn’t the last of Cybertron.

I confess - the notion that these figures could all combine into a massive playset that could hook into Titan figures like Omega Supreme is... of interest.

I don’t think we have seen the last of cybertron modes. I think they had to postpone bee because of all the bee movie stuff. They also can’t have too many figures if the same color in the same wave. I’m guessing just like the random combiners and headmasters we are still getting, there will be more mixed in.

So, I was thinking about characters that could do with a proper update and I hope that HasTak revisits the Powermasters. Dreadwind, Darkwing, Getaway, and Prime got updates, but Joyride, Slapdash and Doubledealer deserve updates. And I'd also argue the others also could do with proper updates, but since we already have a leader class Prime, and the others still had fairly good figures, I'll settle for new versions of the other 3

Call me basic, but all I really want is new updates of the rest of the '84/'85 deluxe cars. Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, and Tracks could probably derive from a single mold, and Trailbreaker and Hoist should, too. Grapple guarantees Inferno, which just leaves Skids.

Hopefully we'll get some additional figures from those, like Crosscut or especially Road Rage. I could also see a Generations take on Bulkhead or Strongarm using the Trailbreaker mold.

I had been looking forward to more Cybertronian vehicles, but honestly we got a bunch back during Titans Return. Not counting the tetrajets or Bumblebee, the MTMTE Cybertronian designs kinda sucked.
Re: New Image of Transformers Earthrise Ironworks Shows Modular Feature (2040395)

Yeah, I'd love the full line of 84-85 cars, too. Hope they are headed that direction. You're giving me hope after doing the math above, AcademyofDrX.

And yeah, with Pulse as a "club" avenue for oddities, I'm down for Crosscut, Road Rage, or any Diaclone or Shattered Glass recolors. Same for peppering in a new character or two.

I have to disagree on the Cybertron molds. While they are odd designs from the 1980s, they are iconic to a generation of fans. Tetrajets resembling those in the show (and getting the Rainmakers) are amazing to finally have. If they can do the same to give us a design that's 90% what we saw in the show for Jazz, Wheeljack and Bee, I will be stoked. They can do whatever they want with the rest of the figures — earth mode or 'original' cybertronian mode.

Anyway, Bee looked pretty amazing all around. Sleek and timeless spaceship mode there. (Unlike Cosmos, who was like a tongue-in-cheek retro spaceship.)

EDIT: Oops, AcademyofDrX excluded Bee and Tetrajets. So we actually agree. Those were the better designs. Either way, hope they do the remaining ones.

For a minute there I thought you were saying the comic Cybertronian designs sucked and I got so confused because no one brought up the comics but then I remembered the three part opening was also called MTMTE
I do have to agree with you there though, the original designs could have used some work. But hey, at least they've been giving nods to those alt modes with a full blown Tetrajet mold, and Soundwave getting a hidden lampost mode. To me it shows they actually wanted to try and keep things accurate to the setting instead of making up entirely new alt modes for characters that have established Cybertronian alt modes
Re: New Image of Transformers Earthrise Ironworks Shows Modular Feature (2040397)
Posted by gothsaurus on October 3rd, 2019 @ 10:16am CDT
Thanks for reminding me about Soundwave's lamp. Bravo for that.

And yeah, it's really such a tiny number of robots that have their alt mode shown... if you go by mold, that's what... three Autobots and three Decepticons (counting seeker, laserbeak and soundwave). It seems like the least they could do is to give those a nod.

Looks like it's finally time to replace my Classics Seekers. This is pretty much the ideal situation IMO. It even makes me want the official Rainmakers. Sure the vehicle modes are different, but that's kinda better.

But maybe ... DON'T make main characters exclusives this time? Pretty please? And maaaaaaaaaaybe not all at the same time too?

I saw Scorpinok's the next titan too. So I may actually get another titan! Maybe.

edit: Actually, these don't look too much like remoulded Seige Seekers at all. Which is much better. Makes me want the Seige Rainmakers less, but I may get them anyway since they're all the same height.

YES YES YES that is! More precisely, that is Japanese Scorponok, using the more toy-accurate and more detailed Toei Animation character model from The Headmasters...

Image

...instead of the AKOM character model from The Rebirth.

Image

Or... No! Wait, it's both! As in, the smaller robot uses the AKOM Rebirth model while the new Cerebros-sized robot uses the Toei Headmasters model!

Oh snap, I just had a brainstorm! What if, the little tiny head is "Zarak" like normal, the giant scorpion Transtector is still "Scorponok", while the new middleman robot is now "MegaZarak"? This would meld together the different American and Japanese takes on the character into one, bringing together the Nebulon ruler Lord Zarak with the purely Cybertronian Scorponok/MegaZarak.

Yeeeeeeah, I don't think that Starscream is a remold of Seigekers.

I see a lot of differences. Looks like the actual alt mode nosecone is in his chest and does not form the shoulder stacks in bot. His hips and thigh swivels look completely different.

Yeah, it's not a disaster or anything. But this means that they don't really look like Starscream, even in robot mode. So, because they don't match, it makes me want them less.

Plus I already own KO Rainmakers, so I already have the characters. I do kinda want them, but I dunno. I'm backing Unicron - I gotta cut back on spending. I do really want 'em, though.

We'll see. Maybe if I see them at Toys R us. Maybe.

More in response to Ironhidensh's post, but mostly just in general. I think it was general speculation that it would be a retool. Admittedly even on my part. I had been trying to figure out in my head how that nosecone from the Tetra mold would work to go from rounded cone shapes to rectangular shoulder stacks. Looks like that's not how they work at all maybe.

I'm thinking that transformation is going to be very Masterpiecey.

@Sabrblade -- I recognised the Japanese model. That's pretty creative, to blend both. When I watched Rebirth as a kid I found it weird that Zarak transformed into Scorponok's head when Spike transformed into Cerebros' head and that guy into FortMax's head. Of course it was because Scorponok had a smaller toy plus his headmaster was placed in a helmet. Unfortunately (or not) I'll skip this one too, as they are both too big to fit on my shelf. :))

@Cobotron -- Transformation seems to follow Henkei almost exactly.

Cool to finally see MegaZarak/Scorponok. I am disappointed a the lack of content though. Just a couple items and a tease. At least at SDCC last year, we got news of pretty much the whole first wave of Siege, hopefully at a panel later there will be photos at least of more upcoming releases. Of course I could still be reeling from 2 years ago when the entire PotP slate was leaked online 8-}

Zarak looks nice. I know that him being here doesn’t confirm any more headmasters in the line, but if we get a Minerva our of Earth Rise, then it’ll be my favorite line ever. :D

As for Wheeljack, he’s being bought on sight.

Yeah, it was weird how The Rebirth had the human-sized Zarak becoming the full head, helmet and all, of Scorponok. Meanwhile, The Headmasters remedied the issue in that version by not only having Scorponok (as in, the smaller guy, since the larger one was named "MegaZarak") fit inside MegaZarak's helmet like the toy but also by having him be larger than the other Headmasters, about the size of a Minibot instead of a human, allowing MegaZarak's head and body to be proportionally equal in size to those of Fort Max without the awkward size-changing and shape-morphing The Rebirth had to use.

Keep in mind the difference in a 3 wave plus 1 more deluxe line for PotP and a almost completely full 5 wave line for this year means that essentially they had to reveal the whole wave 1 of Siege earlier than they do for Earthfall because of how much sooner wave 1 of Siege hit stores than I expect wave 1 of Earthfall to hit. With wave 5 Siege potentially filling in the Christmas sale season, wave 1 of Earthfall can actually come out in January instead of creeping into November like years past. If the first wave isn't going to hit as early, then it doesn't need to be revealed as early either.

Plus, as Cobs said, they're just getting started.
