GoShooter with Gō Shūta... Well played.

I should note that to all the Japanophiles is that while the Transformer name uses Katakana (ゴーシューター Gōshūtā) the human as a native Japanese uses regular Kanji (剛 秀太 Gō Shūta).

Boo. They used an unfun mold for Shuta. I wanted one with more than just articulated shoulders. A PCC Micron would have worked better.

Just that he came with a Mini-Con.

No, he's a previously unknown Gobot. OK I was joking. Read the previous posts, Sabrblade has explained it already, so I'm not gonna repeat it

I like it. Bit of Masterforce/Victory is usually good. I question the helicopter targetmaster for Shuta. But I'm not sure there is something that works better and looks somewhat like an exosuited human. I was thinking maybe a police car micron, but this is not a deal breaker. Cool.

It's not the one I wanted most out of that poll, but I'll get him and place him beside Metalhawk.

I agree!

I'd love to get this! Siren was my only headmaster toy as a kid, so I quite like Go-shooter. Sadly funds make it pointless to try and get one. Maybe if Nightbeat feels like turning up at retail I'll get 2 and paint my own...

A very nice figure, but i don't care about the ugly targetmaster wannabee or the "aqua" guns this mold comes with. Hopefully it will have a normal gun that you can hide somewhere. What they really should have done is actually make him a new mold and a headmaster.

quite true for 90% of reprints we get...then there would have been a lot more choices on the poll to vote for if they weren't doing repaints of existing figures. Hasbro/Takara doesn't seem to have much interest in actual headmasters, except the soon to be released Brainstorm. So Million Pub doesn't have many options for using I that regard.

I'll do JelZe to favor of say, yes, he is a G1 character, and a well done one at that.

Goshooter, better known as Shuta Go, was one of the Autobot Headmaster Juniors from the Japanese Super-God Masterforce cartoon. His toy was a redeco of the G1 Siren toy.

However, don't let that video clip fool you. Though he looks to be a mere human merging with a lifeless Transformer body when he transforms into robot mode in this video, the end of the series had all of the human-bonded TFs gaining their own life and separating from the humans completely, no longer needing them anymore.

This new toy of Goshooter represents the fully-living robot version of him after that series, so there's no need to worry about some human boding with him to give him life. But, the little Targetmaster this toy comes with is meant to be that same human, by now grown up into an adult, likely wearing a Targetmaster exosuit like those we saw the G1 Targetmasters wearing in the three-part G1 cartoon episode "The Rebirth".

Though, you did previously make this post in this topic, so this news about Goshooter shouldn't be new to you. ;)

There's something in one of the bios about either Goshooter or Shuta being a "Godmaster Junior", but it's difficult for me to make out as it sounds like the smaller helicopter figure is the Godmaster Junor Transtector instead of the larger Deluxe figure (which would make more sense than the smaller figure, but it sounds like it is referring to the smaller figure, hence the confusion here).

I just noticed something in the robot mode: the shoulder kibble has an alternate transformation to make it look more like the original G1 Siren/Goshooter toy:

Image

It makes me wonder if that's the reason why Gen. Bumblebee was used for Nightbeat/Siren instead of RtS Jazz. :-?

He is not a nobody in Japan, where this poll was aimed at. Japan got many many more iconic, beloved, very popular G1 characters that the Western World never got. It's like when Star Saber won the Masterpiece Fans Choice poll. These characters won these Japanese polls because they're very darn popular characters in Japan.

And that Alpha Trion toy looked less like Alpha Trion and more like Scourge cosplaying as Alpha Trion.

Yeah, I totally think this was designed as Nightbeat, and the alternate transformation and Bumblebee version was tacked on second. With the shoulders down, it really does make a great GoShooter/Nightbeat. This paint job also looks like it has a lot of detail. Really happy with it.

That said, I DO really hope they re-visit the list they showed. Many — like Alpha Trion — deserve to be made. Police Sunstreaker also in my top choices.

As for the Omnibots... I hope they get their own new molds. While they were at the top of my choices, they were each admittedly a little off.

Unpaintable nylon plastic. Molded on the same sprue as other parts of his robot mode that need to be blue. Can't be helped.

So goshooter is supposed to be a gobot ? I cant believe they voted for this over alpha trion, silverbolt and the omnibots.

Yeah, after these ideas are out 'on the table' for Takara and Hasbro.... I bet we can bank on seeing at least one or two of them in the next year or two.

I mean, look at the Protectobot set... they're getting some repaint value out of those guys... and still, I'm loving it. If it's a good mold, bring on the retools and repaints.

BUT I LIKE IT. i like it, and want it. whyyyyyyy....
maybe its just the colors work well for me, the head sculpt, i dunno. but i like it. im confident after him being out for a while i get snag him for a discount. if so, he's so mine

I know very little about the Japanese G1 cartoons. I would watch them, but I just cant get past those annoying subtitles and voices that all sound like the same actor.

How many times was the mold used in Japan ?

Nightbeat

Minerva

Goshooter

Siren (never heard of him either)

I was very "meh" before on this, but seeing this mock-up, it looks fantastic! And it's not even a character that was even on my radar until the recent Million Publishing poll. I'm going to have to get around to watching the Japanese G1 cartoon spin-offs soon.

Nightbeat and Minerva shared a mold. Nightbeat was Hasbro's release. Minerva was Takara's mainline release, but a special mail-away version of her in Nightbeat's colors (though still identified as Minverva) was made available later on in Japan.

Siren and Goshooter shared a completely DIFFERENT mold. Siren was the Hasbro release while Goshooter was the Takara release. Again, a version of Goshooter with Siren's colors was available later on in Japan, but once more, it was presumably supposed to be the same character with a new paint scheme, not the Hasbro character.

You could learn quite a bit with just a few minutes or research on tfwiki.net or a similar Transformers database.

We keep trying to tell you who this guy is, but I can't for the life of me figure out why you're not getting what we're saying. It comes off as just making you look bad, and that's what we're trying to avoid, yet you still seem to not understand no matter how many times we try to explain to you who this guy is. It's really frustrating.

The clip I keep showing you barely even has any dialogue in it, and ALL of it is English words anyway, so you don't even have to bother reading what little subtitles there are. I think you're man enough to survive a mere 30 seconds of someone speaking English.

Rated X wrote:How many times was the mold used in Japan ?
This mold? This particular Generations mold? Once. Only one time has it ever been used in Japan. As this toy: Generations Bumblebee Goldbug.

Any other release of it has been all Hasbro.

Okay...

I'm gonna take a deep breath... and try to clarify all this.

*deep breath*

Now, in 1988, Hasbro continued the Transformers line with many more toys of new characters who were created after the cartoon had ended. These included:
  • the Powermasters,
  • the Large Pretenders,
  • the Pretender Beasts,
  • the Pretender Vehicles,
  • the Small Headmasters,
  • the Small Targetmasters,
  • the Sparkabots,
  • the Firecons,
  • the Triggerbots,
  • the Triggercons,
  • the Seacons,
  • the Autobot Six Changer known as Quickswitch
  • the Powermaster Mercenary known as Doubledealer
  • and new Cassettes for both Autobot and Decepticon alike
Of these, we'll be looking at the Small Headmasters, particularly the Autobot ones. They were called "Small" because they were smaller sized figures from the bigger Large Headmasters of 1987, and had slightly different engineering for their Headmaster gimmick, with simpler-designed head robots whose helmets were formed by their vehicles' driver's seats placed over the main head unit.

For the Autobots, there were three Small Headmasters released:
  • Siren w/ Quig - a fire chief Mazda RX-7
  • Hosehead w/ Lug - a fire truck
  • Nightbeat w/ Muzzle - a blue and yellow Porche 959
Quig, Lug, and Muzzle were the names of their Nebulan partners who turned into their heads. Yes, the Nebulan partnership thing continued into 1988.

Here is what each of them looked like:

Siren w/ Quig
Image

Hosehead w/ Lug
Image

Nightbeat w/ Muzzle
Image

When Japan created their Super-God Masterforce cartoon, they took the Small Headmasters and reworked them into a slightly different concept called "Headmaster Juniors". A Headmaster Junior is similar to a regular Headmaster from a Western perspective, except that the larger robot body, referred to in this version as a "Transtector", is lifeless, being driven and fully controlled by its Headmaster, who is not a Nebulan or an adult, but a teenage human. The head attaches to the body and forms a bond with it, granting the body life via the human that forms its head, who essentially becomes a Transformer in this supernatural science fiction process.

The three Autobot Headmaster Juniors were all new characters in Japan, different from their Hasbro counterparts. The toys of Siren and Nightbeat were redecoed to go with these new identities, while Hosehead's toy remained unchanged deco-wise.
  • Siren was changed into Goshooter, better known as Shuta Go, whose toy was now a police car
  • Hosehead was changed into Cab, whose toy stayed as a fire truck
  • Nightbeat was changed into Minerva, who was a GIRL and whose toy was now a Porche ambulance
Here's is what these three looked like:

Goshooter (A.K.A. Shuta Go)
Image
Image

Cab (same toy as Hosehead)
Image

Minerva
Image

As a side note (and I only mention this because I know some are gonna point out that I didn't if I don't mention it), both the original Hasbro Siren and Nightbeat toys were later released in Japan as mail-away figures, who were now special toy versions of the Goshooter and Minerva characters, renamed "Goshooter Siren" and "Minerva Night Beat", respectively. But I digress.

Now, after all this, you may be wondering why the Japanese would use the Generations toy for Nightbeat as the base for a new toy of Goshooter. Would it not make more sense for them to redeco Nightbeat into Minerva? Or wouldn't it make more sense for there to first be a Generations Siren toy for them to make Goshooter from? Well, there is a very specific reason for their making a Goshooter out of Nightbeat instead of going with one of the other choices.

Back in the 1980's, when the folks who worked for Hasbro were making the commercials for the Hasbro toys and making the Marvel G1 comic books, for some unknown reason, the head designs for Nightbeat and Siren got swapped with each other somehow, and both the animators for the commercials and the artists for the comic books ended up drawing Siren with Nightbeat's toy face, and Nightbeat with Siren's toy face:

Image

This was later corrected for Siren in later comic books created in the 21st Century by Dreamwave, Fun Publications, and IDW, but not for Nightbeat who, due to his becoming a very popular character, kept Siren's visor eyes in all of Nightbeat's future fiction to come, as the visored look had become an iconic look for Nightbeat. Thus, Generations Nightbeat has a visored face.

Image

In Japan, however, Siren's and Nightbeat's counterparts, Goshooter and Minerva, did NOT have their head designs swapped, and so kept their respective toy head designs, with Goshooter having his toy's visored eyes.

Image
Image

Thus, the Japanese are using the visor-eyed Nightbeat toy to make a visor-eyed Goshooter toy, all thanks to Nightbeat's iconic head design having originally come from Siren, whom Goshooter was redecoed from.

Image

If all that still doesn't help you to understand who this guy is and why this toy is being made, then I frankly don't know what else there is to do.

Why does he have to be in storage right now #-o
I still need to get Henkei Astrotrain. I much prefer that to Hasbro's toy white one I have. It just felt like a pointless double dip on a mold/character...however, If I get Henkei 'anime' Astro now, then white Astro can be Metroplex's new partner! 8-}

I can also cry into my knees over how never in a million (publishing :D ) years will I own Shouki! Why'd they have to make him homage Thunder Arrow/Skystalker? Must they make me want things I can not afford? :HEADHURTS:

Well I guess if you want to call that a gun, then its a gun. I can make a robot bananna fan mode out of astrotrain too. Ive learned my lesson with both stepper and artfire. Wait one year and they will be on sale half price. The combination of crackhead prices and obscure Japan only characters always leaves millions publishing figures clearance bound.

Sixshot will have to wait, but allow me to give you some trivia: his Brave series retool Shadowmaru from Brave Police J-Decker did not advertise the gun mode of the mold. However, the producers of the show did sneak it into a single episode:

Overgrown, Overcharged, Owned.
