Up first, we have the title for the first arc of the Transformers story from writer Brian Ruckley, titled "The World in Your Eyes." As was stated previously, this comic is going to start in a time of Peace and prosperity, with the first murder in Cybertron history set to serve as the trigger for the end of that Golden age. As Bumblebee has been stated to be a primary viewpoint for the story, the title matches up perfectly with seeing Cybertron through his, and by extent our, eyes. The first issue is merely titled "1 of 5", so the entire first arc will run with this 5 part name. It will be released twice a month.
Also, coming in a bit late but still very exciting, we have a ton of new covers to share with you for the upcoming Series! These covers come to us from Comic artists both seasoned and fresh to IDW Transformers comics! You can check out previous artwork reveals HERE, HERE, and HERE!
Up first, we have covers for Issue #1 RI-B (and a foil version will be the RI-C) by Freddie Williams II and Andrew Dalhouse and issue #5 B cover by @piratecashoo!
Next, a yet to be colored Issue 2 Cover B by @RonJoseph717!
Up next, some familiar faces in the form of Nick Roche and Josh Burcham!
Newcomer Anna Malkova is up next with a beautiful mural:
And finally, another old friend in the lineup, Sara Pitre-Durocher!

Even if they are promoting the new optimus Prime toy,I wonder why they skipped the first SIEGE body...

My guess is he'll get the normal Voyager SIEGE Optimus body later on.

I do like most of the art, even if Bumblebee looks like a human in a yellow armor.

Huh, Bumblebee has always looked like a chubby kid wearing armor now that I think about it.

This is true, and I think, was done on purpose.
Also why would having Windblade on the cover be indicative of the old continuity when Windblade has successfully spread to plenty of other media now, following her appearance in Rid 2015. If anything this is good as the fembots are going to be part of things from day one.
I think that they are using the leader Class toy because of timing. When this comic debuts we won't be that far off a release of said toy

Would probably help her standout more as well.

Cos vehicle mode scale be damned.

I mean she doesn't transform into a real plane it can be whatever size they want.
I'll remind you that Powerglide was a minibot with a plane mode as well.
Also Warpath exists.

Agreed! All depends on how it sells. I'd guess they have this slotted for six issues, maybe twelve and they'll see how it goes from there.Stormshot_Prime wrote:I do hope this is the start of an actual long-running continuity. No one’s saying that it has to be AS complex as the last IDW run (masterfully done), but it’d be better to have something long running with a bunch of characters and a fleshed out world that’s built, rather than just some short run with maybe one or two sequels.
Let’s hope this is the new Infiltration!

I hope it's more than that from the start, because if they try to play it safe, it'll cripple the story from the start, and the comic becomes its own casualty. I want the story to be on a grand scale from the beginning, so that it's impossible to wrap it up in 6 issues.ScottyP wrote:Agreed! All depends on how it sells. You would have thought that one of the New Toy Fembots would have been pushed instead IE Greenlight. I'd agree with the point of her representing the old continuity too, given everyone else seems to have had a redesign. She looks like she just walked out of OP #25...

Exactly. Are they saying Windblade is more iconic than Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Shockwave etc? Too good for a redesign??

As out of place in a New continuity as Optimus Prime looked in The Rebirth

RID 2015 was a different continuity from IDW1 and she kept her same design.AllNewSuperRobot wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:No that's probably Hasbro saying no to a redesign she's stayed that way because of the fan poll. They'll tweak her eventually but for now she looks like that.

Why, Knock Out kept his Prime design in IDW1 yet Prime and IDW1 were different continuities too.

Context Specific characters. Dreamwave didn't keep the characters with the same look in every storyline, set in every time period. For example, having Bumblebee or Grimlock look like a VW Bug and T-Rex respectively, on Cybertron millions of years prior to their arrival, would have stupid and a massive aesthetic plot hole.

1. HasTak - License Holder. They have been known to be quite flexible, but only to a point and since the implementation of Aligned Continuity, tend to revert the series to a fallback position, catering to...
2. Slavish devotion to G1. Does Transformers need cookie cutter repetition? A vocal group (of unknown size) would scream yes and thus Transformers becomes an ouroboros. For every Rhinox, a Prowl. Every Hot Shot, a Bumblebee. Every Bulkhead, an Ironhide etc etc etc
Now neither of the above are going to be upended in the Reboot. The Comic Book arm of Transformers doesn't have that level of power/autonomy. Plus SIEGE is clearly helmed by someone with a similar G1-Fetish. But even if locked in a visual 'cage' for lack of a better word, I do hope the new creative teams don't just settle for what is easy aka G1: 2019 Edition Or something ultimately superfluous to being based within Transformers at all ala MTMTE/LL.
A 'Spotlight: Arcee' level reinvention would be the ideal, yet the promo material to date doesn't fill me with much confidence of that either.

The artwork for this issue was done by Anna Malkova, Who has already become quite the fan favorite cover artist thanks to previous covers revealed for the series.

As long as he has a on his chest, all will be well. They can start rebuilding a recognisable Cyclonus for a new generation. Not just use his 'skin' for a different kind of character altogether.

One word good sir, "Evergreen"
Cyclonus was as bare bones as anyone else in previous continuities. Wherein the characterisation could generally be summed up in a blurb at the most. Re-treading "old ground" in the case of Cyclonus could be done in a page or less.
As an aside, the Partwork just began the first arc of MTMTE, "Liars A to D". I decided to go into it with an open mind and I'm not liking what I'm reading already. Plus the two 'Chibi' characters (Swerve and Tailgate) have been visually jarring from the outset.

I'm interested in the direction this line is going to take compared to the ways Roberts and Barbee went, and the bar they set. MTMTE/Lost Light was so good that I don't envy whoever is stepping in to fill those shoes.
One thing though, it does kill me that this means we'll probably never get official Lotty, Rung, and the DJD or a Nautica outside of a box set.

It annoys me that all of Transformers, from G1 to Modern Day, is there to make use of EG Furman had everything from Gestalts to Micromasters within a year or two. Alongside the ever present need to make new characters and some writers are just stuck reusing the same ones over and over.

Indeed, to sell the toys. So why not use as many as you can? Increased exposure would create a new fanbase for just about anyone. They could even make the Firecons or Hot Shot into something people actually want a Modern toy for, not just as a nostalgia piece.

It is a shame HasTak were so late in adapting the IDW designs into toys. I would have loved to see Thunderwing, the -Ations Seekers etc as toys.

We decided since IDW was rebooting Transformers next month, we should get in on the action. With Robby Musso being one of the best Transformers artists on the planet, and a good friend of the shop, we decided to get our own cover done for the release!
These will be available through the shop or Facebook page for $19.99 each. Word on the street is he may be signing them for free at the shop in March also, keep an eye open for more updates on that! Plenty of room to get a nice remark on the front, or back cover also!
If you're in the area, or just want to order a copy of the book with this cover for yourself, the Showcase Comic Books and Collectibles Facebook page will have additional information on release timing and launch event details in the coming weeks to keep you informed. Keep it here at Seibertron.com for all the latest as the new iteration of IDW's Transformers approaches launch next month.
