I say "bogus" to both assertions. The Takara one is pro-Robot Mode, while the Hasbro one is pro-Planet Mode. Takara's Robot Mode looks amazing, while its Planet mode looks bland and uninteresting. Hasbro's Planet Mode, however, looks spot on and exceptionally good, while its Robot Mode looks too flashy and overdone.

If one has the Takara one, display him in his glorious Robot Mode. If one has the Hasbro one, show off his awesome Planet Mode. 8)

I had a really hard time photographing his eyes lighting up for some reason. Normally I can always get a shot but for some reason this was the best shot I could get of it in action. If you look in the corner of his left eye, you can see the red light barely.

Image

Is there something in particular that you want to know about his light up features? It's still using the red lights so nothing different from previous releases.

I totally agree about the bio. It's excellent. I'd even go as far to say it's the best one they've ever written for a TF. I'm sure anybody would be hard pressed to find one that tops it.

It fascinates me that the fandom is even discussing this. Just goes to show that you can't please all of the people all of the time. I think the Hasbro version wins hands down without a doubt. Is it perfect? No, but it's close. Does it have a few things I would've done differently? Sure. But it's leaps and bounds better than the orange sherbet Takara 2010 version which I am still sorely disappointed with.

The nice thing about Unicron is that we've got four different versions to choose from to please just about everyone's tastes.

The issue I have isn't the orange color. The Hasbro one has the better orange/gold, but it's got way too much gray that's way too dark a shade. His upper arms should be orange. His center upper chest should be orange. His lower torso sides should be orange. His silver should be a paler shade. His back is solid gray instead of painted to look like his front.

Of these issues, the Takara one got the upper arms, the torso sides, and shade of gray right. Everything else, however, exists between both versions.

so much ranting on this release,i personally say this-i like all the unicrons ever released, the fact that i came on-board a little late,i'm playing catch up with my collection.so tracking down all those other unicrons is way to pricey for me.i heard of this unicron,(thanx very much) because of joining siebertron.com and i picked up 2 of these unicrons from amazon.only because maybe i might want to open one but i doubt it.since i'm a package collector.i never open mine.yeah yeah i know.but the bottom line for me is it was very affordable, even for 2.i still broke even, then just tryin to acquire 1 armada or energon or even the takara release.but to be honest im eyeing the black variant at the moment.i love the green detailed lightning whatever on that version.

It hasn't been a year already has it??!! Good god, where does the time go?? And how old do I sound? Congratulations dude.

Regarding the figure: DAMMIT!!! I so badly wanted to be content with Takara's 2010 figure given how much it cost, but there are definately aspects if this one that greatly appeal to me. I think Sabrblade might be on the money with his theory of Hasbro's having the superior planet mode but Takara the better 'bot mode. I can agree with most of the complaints folk have about both. I think it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Probably just stick with what I've got. Save $100.

He's not garbage to me. Still, there are more than just 4, just saying, and that's ALL I'm saying, Cybertron's being garbage is strictly opinion based. I did not know the G1 version was never released. I know the Beast Wars Neo version never was, wich is why it's not included here, but IMO, would have probably been the best unicron mold. Probably would have been beter than Armada's.

You're welcome, Bounti76.

As for the blue being accurate... I think blue is just a flashier way of showing off (in animation) a more realistically grey Unicron. But... that is just my own take on the whole matter since blue leaves a more colourful impression than dull ol' grey. I like my TFs to be imbued with a little realism in such cases. The blue on the toy makes it look more toyish, even if it is more screen accurate. Although I gota say, I wish the takara one had such nice green eyes.

See? I like the grey...... :D

I do like the yellow on the Habro Unicron, but I also agree that the dark grey/blue plastic seems a bit off. The comics and movies do show grey/blue in some scenes - I will agree; but I believe it is a matter of perception. The dark grey/blue represents the absence of light as it cruises through the inky black void of space. But he is silver/grey.

If you look at Ryan's galleries of Hasbro Unicron - focus on his silver chest. Sometimes it appears pale white, in other shots, it's dark grey. That's the essence that best describes this character.
