Not only does having Slingshot as a Warthog make more sense because he gets to be a VTOL again, but the rounded gold head looked more like his rounded orange G1 head. Did someone want Fireflight to be the Warthog because his original jet mode was more of a small bomber than a fighter? Skydive got a much better paint job the second time around, but that wasn't nearly enough to get me to double-dip on this set after how hard it was to finish up the Energon one back in the day, even if my Energon Fireflight (Wind-sheer?) came with 2 left forearms (anyone here get one with 2 right arms and wanna' trade?)
First, let me say that I agree with you. I don't think Hasbro made the right choices on either this or Bruticus. (Blast Off should have been a helicopter and Swindle a tank. But that's for another discussion.) I have to wonder, though. The only Warthogs that I knew as VTOLs were the sort of Warthogs in G.I. Joe in the form of the Cobra Rattler. A-10s have never been VTOL, as far as I know. But I do think you are right that Slingshot would have been better served going from Harrier to Wharthog.
Fireflight was originally an F4 Phantom II, if memory serves. That's not really a bomber. More of a multipurpose fighter. Mach 2 plus, carrier capable; it could carry bombs, but could also act as a fighter/interceptor. Sort of like the F15 and F16 later.

I'm betting Seibertron fixed the legs. Mine was still backwards, and as much as I can tell through the packaging, the one I still have MISB is also backwards.

Having spent most of my life with A-10 Warthogs flying over head, I can honestly assure you that they have never had VTOL capabilities. That aside I do love them, in all their ugly tank-killing toughness. Sadly I think I missed out on picking up this set. I'd like to see my G1 Air Raid next to this version.

You are quite correct sir, he was a mass release in the UK in ROTF packaging. He was also the first ROTF toy to be found in the UK and can still be found warming shleves to this very day

If that's the case, what about Bruticus? Or did the *censored* upgrade made him sell out everywhere?

Stockade wrote:Man! in combiner form, Superion is lanky and looks aweful, thank God for FP to turn this into a great combiner with cool weapons, but still doesn't come close to Bruticus set!
Okay, I'm sorry but this is really starting to rankle me. Is he as good as bruticus? No. He was the first they did. And they did a damned good job with it, too.
Energon Superion didn't need as much of an upgrade as Bruticus. G1 Aerialbots were one big plane and four small ones, which the Energon version was. There's probably more variation in the two molds than in G1's. So less to change.
