I think I would have loved them if not for the Perfect Effect figures of Rumble and Frenzy. They are perhaps the only time a 3rd party has just won out over Hasbro for me.

I have to agree. If not for the PE versions I would probably love these guys, but by comparison these dudes just seem awkward and out of place on my neo-classics shelf. It's all good though, they make good WFC versions to keep Soundwave and Megatron compmay.

I loved them. I don't own the PE figures though either because they didn't appeal to me at all. I think these are perfect "Classics" updates of these characters. The head mold is spot on, I'm kind of "meh" on the alt modes but I don't know what else you would do with these guys. Tank modes are just overused IMO. My only complaints are I wish their weapons had the wings that their original weapons had, and then if they had the wings, I wish that they could hold them in their hands. Not big complaints, just would have been nice especially since two Scout class figures are being passed off at the price point of a Voyager.
The Perfect Effect 3rd party toys don't do anything for me:

The PE versions are too small. Rumble and Frenzy turn into guns (I'll take tank versions of these characters any day over Targetmaster versions). Their head molds aren't as accurate as the Hasbro/Takara versions (this is a big thing to me ... the scout class versions are perfect head renditions to me). The lack of black on Rumble is a big turn off and the darker shade of blue on Frenzy needs to be darker. The pile drivers are better implemented on the PE versions but that's about the only thing that I really like about those. The barrel on the PE weapons are too big, though I do like the wings. And if I recall correctly, these cost more than importing the Takara Tomy United version.
That and nothing 3rd party replaces anything in my collection. 'Nuff said.

I owned the PE rumble frenzy pair and I was very disappointed. The QC was just awful. The plastic was not very durable and the paint job was really sloppy. Once I read that Takara was releasing these, I sold mine on ebay. I have the united set and it is far superior to PE. The plastic is much more durable and I like the fact that the pile-drivers are a part of the transformation instead of sloppy add-on pieces.

Does anyone have them in stock still for $50? Seems like they sold out pretty quick.

The PE effect guys look fine but too small for my tastes. I heard too many stories of bad QC on them. The fact that they turn into guns didn't work for me either. Given their size, since the bots modes were so slavish to G1, so should their alt modes have been. For my Classics collection I needed something a touch different. It's one of the things that keeps me interested. Sure, not every Classics figure is radically different but there's usually something. The PE versions were just too damn close IMO. Odd, when that's usually something we clamor for as a fandom. The United versions work on all fronts for me. Unlike Seibertron, some 3rd party stuff can and will replace official releases where appropriate in my collection. Not here though.

In all honesty, the legs aren't great(a little loose in the hips, easily fixed) and the arms want to bend at the wrist instead of the elbow every time I want to move the elbow joint(due to multiple joints in the arms). However, the colors, the piledriver gimmick, the clip guns and the overall feel make me appreciate these more.

Alright, so I kind of fibbed a little here. City Commander, FansProject Bruticus, and FansProject Superion are the only ones that have "replaced" the originals, but even then you have to have the originals in order to have those so not necessarily a fib. I just meant that I couldn't think of an instance where the 3rd party product would replace an actual Hasbro or Takara figure in my collection (i.e. Warbot wouldn't replace an eventual Springer for example).

I agree. Different, but better.

Misinterpretation of the original image: it showed only one tank, the blue one.

Gutted, I was hopeing that there would be more than just repaints maybe a cool gimmick that would make them like a team not just look the same. I thought Hasbro might want to cut out the competition by designing a better F,R to rival PE's

Is the U.S. going to get screwed out of these two as we were with RTS Windcharger?
