Wave 3 was all repaints of Wave 1, with drones and Mini-Cons mixed up. It's to extend the line before the 2011 releases, like the Dinobots and Constructicons.

The minicons have very... loose transformations. I'm used to 'robo-yoga' with movie-verse the Fallen and Megatron, but some of these guys (Backwind especially) just don't seem to even try.

Took me one week to take all of their photos and an additional week to sort through the blurry pics, duplicates, crop the pics, resize the photos, adjust the colors, watermark the pics, and upload them to the site. Thank goodness for all of the batch operations I've figured out over the 7 years I've been doing this.
And they came out mighty fine.
Why is Beacon solid red plastic I though he's supposed to be translucent sparkly brown?
This made me realise that the only good Mini-Con mold from this line is Caliburst, the rest are shite. Well at least wave 1.

But the silver lining to that is several play possibilities when he's in chest-plate mode, which the photographer, overworked as he was to get all of this up, kudos, didn't explore. Extend his limbs a bit, and he's a self-targeting machine gun battery. Spin him 180 degrees, and his legs become a very convincing set of binoculars! Ironically, it is my least favorite 2-pack from wave 1, but if I'd had these as a kid, I'd say Searchlight and Backwind would've been the most fun to play with. His handgun mode is quite random, but an 8-year old would think it should look silly, assuming he's a gas gun.
And a minicon axe is something long overdue. I'd actually call Caliburst the worst minicon because he's the least versatile. The gear aesthetic just looks wrong when he's Huffer's robot-mode weapon.

Glad to see all the PCCs finally in the galleries. I recommend Smolder and Chopster to those of you on the fence with these guys. I may go get Huffer soon, since my area has no new products in. Can't wait to see what else Hasbro has in store with the PCCs.

Backwind is the lamest of all the PCC Minicons, IMO. I don't even display him. It would help if he was a different color that integrated better with Searchlight, I think. I love Caliburst, and the rest look pretty decent.

I regret skipping that one too.

Anyway, this was a really underrated toy line, and I would love to see some of the designs and characters brought back into the fold!

And the Minicons (Really, these guys were Targetmasters mixed with Breastforce mechanics, not minicons. Minicons typically have their own alternate mode that doesn't require outside use) were really well designed, especially given their size.
I kinda feel like if the PCC drones hadn't had such a focus on "auto-transforming", there could have been some clever engineering done to make them look awesome.

Heavytread is my Classics Guzzle
Skyhammer is my Classics Triggerhappy

I've always wondered what Undertow and Skyhammer were like. The other end-of-the-line figures (Steamhammer, Dinopope, and Heavytread) are all pretty amazing.

At the very least, Smolder should be adopted into the "main" series.
Also, wow, just noticed the original thread title used the Minicon's name instead.

Undertow is a pretty nice one. I managed to make a pretty cool looking Chaingun turret alt mode out of it.

Except Double-Clutch, that mold is crap.

This was a good line, it took a few knocks for the drone aspect, but there were a lot of good designs fr the main figures, and I'm glad I grabbed a number of them. That said I don't think I have even opened Skyhammer yet....
Plus if you were able to get Heavy Tread and the Maketoys add-ons... That kicks all sorts of ass.
That said... Don't have Double-Clutch, not worried about missing him either.

Out of the four galleries posted, Undertow and Heavytread are easily the best of the lot. I have a lot of love for Smolder, but those later wave figures are fantastic little scouts, with great modes and Heavytread really really really works with the drone limbs and other products we do not speak of.
Skyhammer is alright. Feels a bit too misshapen to actually work with the others, but the torso mode is so bonkers I had to get it too.
Are they masterpieces of engineering? No. Really not at all. But for a venture back into combination territory, they were great little toys that I learned to really enjoy after my first experience with them.
And I still think they look pretty fine, in their Frankenstein bodies.

Just as bad, the fans started passing around a rumor that a "fixed" version of Double Clutch was released later by Hasbro. I've never found evidence to verify this is true, though I wonder if the Takara version sucks as much.

I have yet to see if that's the case myself, actually.
It's the only figure I have ever gotten so frustrated at I chucked in the bin.
ScottyP, you got one of the Takara ones? Anyone else?
