A new week, another Beast Wars Tuesday! Every Tuesday, we'll be focusing our camera lens on a new set of galleries featuring vintage Transformers action figures from the Beast Wars era. Check back next Tuesday to see our next set of Beast Wars related galleries.
This week, we move swiftly into the Transmetal 2 concept and sub-line of figures, with two asymmetrically bio-cybernetic sort of animal kingdom creatures: Prowl and Scourge! Prowl, with his owl alt-mode, is shown in both the original white version as well as the later black redeco that were available in 1999. Scourge, the nightmarish locust with a paint scheme worthy of G2, and more spikes than a Bayformer is also available for your viewing pleasure.
Check out the galleries by clicking on any of the images below!

jogunwarrior wrote:Had Scourge and hated him, so I got rid of him...However, these pictures make me regret that I ever did that because he looks pretty awesome here.
He was oddly one of my favorites that came out of the Beast Wars. I imagine the name had something to do with it and the fact that you can pose him with wings "ala G1 Scourge", so I just pretended that he was G1 Scourge in a new body. He's not, but that's how I rationalized the name re-use on an unrelated character (which was still a relatively new concept at the time). His odd legs were a new concept for Transformers at the time, which I really liked. It's a concept that has been revisited on other Transformers later down the line (in particular movie Transformers such as Starscream).
Couple things to note about his gallery ... his painted is cracked and there are a few missing chips of paint (which is a common problem with many Transmetals), but it was still in fairly good condition. I applied a layer or two of clear coat to the paint to preserve what remains. I haven't done that yet to Prowl but will probably do that later today before he gets put away back in storage for however long he needs to be there. While photographing him, I forgot that he could hold his missiles like a sword, so those pictures are at the tail end of the gallery.
My white version of Beast Wars Prowl (also known as Prowl II), appears to have suffered from some minor yellowing. I had a couple other ones in my store but there were in similar condition so I left mine as is. It doesn't look bad, but that's why he might appear darker than he should (though some of that was the lighting that I had trouble with on these guys because of the chrome reflecting the light).
Glad to add these guys to the galleries at long last. Can't wait to do the next set for the next Beast Wars Tuesday! It's a lot of fun pulling out these old figures that aren't relevant to anything else that's going on and that haven't been out of storage in at least 15 years.

I just started the clearcoat process on both of my Transmetal 2 Prowls. I did one wing (both sides) and the "tailpipes" or whatever you want to call them on the same side. I'll let that dry overnight, transform him, do the chest and the opposite wing and tailpipes tomorrow. It looks great and it's nice to know that I'm preserving the figure as it is.

That is, until my Scourge broke at the wings.
As a kid, I always thought that Scourge's crazy leg design was some kind of foreshadowing to the designs that would come in Beast Machines, as I got Scourge (and Prowl) around the time that Fox Kids had started to advertise the Beast Machines cartoon with promos that showed Cheetor with similarly-angled legs.
Though, looking at the two Prowl galleries, how come there aren't any images of them in robot mode with their Spark Crystals hidden away?
I ask because, as a kid (and sorta to this day), I kinda thought that the Spark Crystals were meant to be hidden away from view like how the characters' Sparks in the cartoon were meant to stay inside their bodies like their hearts, and that exposing them would expose an obvious weak spot of vulnerability (you can imagine my confusion as a kid when it came to those toys whose Spark Crystals weren't either hidden away or at least obscured in some fashion, like how TM2 Cybershark's and Nightglider's were openly displayed in full view on each's robot mode chest).
Though, Prowl's box art showing the red part on his chest might've also influenced my transforming him with the Spark Crystal hidden away.

That and I always imagined the TMII figures had some kind of super power due to their spark crystals, like Prowl would rotate his wings in front of him so they would spin and he's shoot a giant whirlwind, or Scourge had a flame sword.
Posted by Sabrblade on June 15th, 2016 @ 7:54pm CDT
As a kid, I characterized him as kinda like a cross between Tarantulas and Inferno, being an uber insane killer psychopath who could fire an infectious liquid spray from his beast mode bug head in robot mode, which could either turn his enemies mad or make them mortally ill. I was either 9 or 10 at the time.Grimlock64 wrote:I have Black Prowl and Scourge, and I loved the weirdness of the TMII line. Scourge was my favorite and I always acted like he was this dark, evil character plotting in the background behind Megatron. I was in sixth grade, cut me some slack.

This first week of summer, we take a look at two of the members of the Beast Wars II Tripledacus gestalt, as represented in the Telemocha series - the original Hasbro combiner of three can be found on Seibertron.com here - TM-12 Gimlet and TM-13 Motorarm!
The two 2007 reissue figures also came with DVDs of the Beast Wars show: lobster alt-moded Gimlet is was packaged with "Falcon Warrior Airrazor" ('The Spark' in US), while stag beetle Motorarm included "The Immortal Starscream" ('Possession' in US). Check out the full galleries by clicking on any of the images below, and keep an optic out for the Beast Wars II Tripledacus set, coming for an upcoming Beast Wars Tuesday!

I've never watched BWII but I love the concepts it created, especially the Jointrons. I mean, musical Mexican bug-formers! As soon as my home situation is sorted and I'm able to collect again I must get a set.

Amazing how different the heads manage to look just because of the actual placement of color. Gimlet's got a conventional bug mouth (complete with mandibles) while Sea Clamp's got a ANGRY MARINES Darth Vader-esque triangular grimace.

Delta Magnus wrote:I kinda wish Takara would revisit Tripledacus with a new toy, expanded into Quadrupledacus- the body and leg setup would be mostly the same, with Gimlet forming the legs and DJ forming the body, but Motorarm would just form one arm (hopefully making him less of a lump in robot mode), whilst the other arm would be formed by a fembot cricket (not sure on the name. Flamenco perhaps?).
How about Glowstrike?

- Rhinoceros Beetles have them vertically, like a Rhino's horn (hence their name)
- Stag Beetles have been horizontally, function like a pincer, and resemble a deer's antlers (again, hence their name)
Just letting you guys know, as many make that mistake.

This week, we bring to you a trio of Maximals that were not released as individual toys, but rather as pack-ins for jigsaw puzzles, specifically the Beast Wars Metals puzzles. These 3 were redecos of their previous toys, with Rattrap being an orange and white redeco of his Transmetals body, while Lio Junior was redecoed in either black and red or white and yellow. All 3 were available between 1998 and 1999. Lio Junior is even shown here forming part of Magnaboss, and these gallery images may be the very first images of this version of Magnaboss (albeit the main difference is that he looks like he colored his hair).
Check out the gallery below, and stay tuned for more Beast Wars Tuesdays right here on Seibertron.com!

I have 3 versions of the rattrap mold, 2 i bought new in the 90s the other i got in a lot off ebay a few years ago and not one of them has any flaking. Most of my transmetal figures have absolutely no flaking at all, dont be afraid to buy them especially if they are mint in box.

REGARDLESS. IT'S JUST REGARDLESS. IRREGARDLESS IS NOT A WORD.
Ahem.
But yeah it is one hell of a design. Looks like a monster from Getter Robo made glorious love to the Zeong from Gundam and then did a cosplay as an aircraft carrier...on treads.
Whatever it is, I love it.

It reminds me of the devil gundam a little - which is never a bad thing
The sheer novelty of the design would make it worth it on merit alone, it's just so out there

If you're taking suggestions I'd personally like to see the rest of the Beast Era McDonald's toys.

This week, Seibertron.com brings you a look back at two of the drones in the fairly divisive animated series that followed the Maximals and Predacons' (more or less) return to their homeplanet of Cybertron. Vehicons, Basic class, and the springboard for two of the main Generals, the tank drone and motorcycle drone are smaller versions of the ones used for Tankor and Thrust (and the template for the Generations Tankor figure), and true troop builders. Also part of the Battle for the Spark monicker, you can check them out in their galleries by clicking on any of the images below!

The Cycle Drone toy was named "Motorcycle Drone" and the Aero Drone toy was named "Sonic Attack Jet". As a kid, these names registered to me as the "wrong" names as they weren't what they were called in the show, which named the drones a full year before the toyline got did.

Well delta, I'm throwing you a rope so you don't fall. I couldn't agree more. This line has always been one of my favs for it's pure toyeticness, and has been poopooed over the years, 'cause people just don't understand.Delta Magnus wrote:Actually I'll go out on a limb and say Beast Machines was one of the most underrated toylines in general.
Can't wait for more of these galleries. Thanks Seibs!
@ Decepticon Stryker - they are indeed Legends size. they were Basic class, which is the same scale and price point as Scouts and now Legends.

Decepticon Stryker wrote:Also is it me, or does the tank drone look like it's legends class size? It looks really small, even in comparison to the other basic class figures.
Yup, he's about as big as today's Legends Class toys.
Decepticon Stryker wrote:Wait a minute.. Who's that lighter blue Jetstorm? I can't seem to find him in any of the galleries.
He is an aero drone, the mindless army that makes up Jetstorm's ait team. I am looking forward to the gallery sice I am currently writing a "top 5 best troop builders" list and he is on there.
And yeah Shajaki, the scale in that line is a nightmare. What I find really sucks is that Hasbro seems to homage how messed up it is by giving us a deluxe Tankor recently who is as big as rattrap. WTF?!

Aero Drone or Sonic Attack Jet, whatever Hasbro feels like calling him.
