Hasbro and Paramount are really going all out on the retro theme of the upcoming Transformers Bumblebee movie. With the Beetle alt mode, the 80s setting and even G1 rereleases sporting original packaging. Well to add to all this we have a new game based on the film available online on the official movie website for everyone to play. This game is made to look like 16 bit games of the past (like the SNES era) and is high score based, you can check my high score below. The idea is that you cannot run low on power and thus you must collect energon cubes, or oil while avoiding obstacles. There is a boss fight at every 5 levels where you will encounter Dropkick or Shatter and they will use both their alt modes.

Give the game a shot and let us know what you think!

One slight nitpick: The game is clearly styled after 16-bit systems like the Super-NES and the Mega Drive/Genesis, which didn't come out until the 90s. The most advanced graphics you'd get on an early/mid 80s machine would be something like a Commodore 64 home computer, which would still look nowhere near that nice. You might get something like that on an Amiga or a late 80s arcade machine, maybe?

Still, awesome.

My score:

Energon 580

Actually the mega drive debuted in Japan in 1988, and then the US the following year. Europe didn't get it till the year after that. Though considering the movie is set in 1987, I would say the game is inspired by the latest arcade games that were making waves, some of which would hit the mega drive in its first assortment of games.

To be fair though, the mega drive didn't really hit its stride till a certain blue hedgehog turned up in 1991...

Huh, interesting! I assumed the movie was set in the early/mid 80s for some reason. But that makes more sense in any event- arcade machines always had an advantage over consoles in raw power/graphics (though nowadays an arcade machine with a comparable "power gap" over a modern console would be absurdly expensive).

I think it was the mid to late nineties where the gap between arcades and consoles really narrowed to the extent where it was a death knell for arcades. The minute arcade perfect conversions appeared or were at least possible that was it.

On topic about this game, curse you will for bringing it to my attention! This game is too addictive! I've got writing I should be doing!

Ha! Told ya Will! Level 46 with 9 boss battles! About 700 or so energon and oil and 1600 cassettes.

I really like this game. It's like a better version of the Mystery of Convoy game. If I could change just one thing though, I would add Blitzscream in the game. Other than that, awesome! ;)^

I do wish I knew how to take screen caps.

I just got to about level 93 (maybe higher, forgot to write it down), 1962 oil, 1751 Energon, 3195 Cassettes, and 18 boss battles!

I ultimately lost because the screen couldn't generate itself as fast as Bee was running across it. Not sure if the problem was on their end or my PC.

With the Transformers Bumblebee movie coming in just one month (to the day), the marketting campaign is picking up some major steam. Bumblebee, in his film look, is appearing in as many places as possible. He was part of the Toronto Santa Clause parade in both his robot and car mode on a float.

Bumblebee will also be part of next month's loot crate along with merchandize from Dungeons and Dragons, Fallout and more (all in th same crate).

In more car related news, Bumblebee is part of Gamestop's advertizing on Christopher Bell's NASCAR racecar. He even included a video of the new adverts being applied to the car which you can see here.

Lastly, we have not one but two Bumblebee related books now on Amazon for anyone to purchase.
There is the Junior Novel and the Passport to Reading Level 2 book A New Car for Charlie.

Fellow Seibertronian Lunatic Prime has posted an new international trailer/TV Spot for the upcoming Bumblebee movie which show us a new shot of the titular character in a new form. It appears to be Cybertronian, similar to the hologram we see Shatter show John Cena in previous trailers.
Let us know what you think and how that would fit within the film, especially since we already know he is a Jeep before turning into a Beetle.

Also we have the original Bumblebee trailer rendered in Play-Doh. It is available on both youtube and Facebook.

A big part of the anticipation for the upcoming Bumblebee film is the Generation One inspired designs and sequences. Paramount is well aware of this fan pleasing change to the designs and have made a feature for us. We see many cast members, the director and designers talk of Generation One designs and wanting to make these characters more remenescent of the design 80s fans are more familiar with. We get nice 360 shots of both Optimus Prime and Bumblebee as well as new shots of the Cybertron sequnce featuring Optimus Prime, in a shot very similar to his heroic jump in the 86 Transformers film.

Men's T Shirts and Transformers Bumblebee Movie Merchandise Display

This news comes across courtesy of fellow Transformers fan site TFW2005, where a member of their forums snapped this while out. The display was found at a Kroger in Ft. Wayne, Indian. The display is for different Bumblebee themed clothing such as t-shirts and pants. In the original post, prices were mentioned as being $15 for pants and $10 for the t-shirts but there was a possibility of a sale on them as each item was originally marked down from double that price.

Here is a massive spoiler, Bumblebee has a speaking role in the movie. While he will be beeping and buzzing throughout most of it, it seems he will be speaking at some aprts, like in the begining or on the Cybertron sequence. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke with IGN to reveal this exclusive info, also confirming that Bumblebee's mythology is being reset with this film.

"Since we were approaching this as an origin story, we felt that it was appropriate that you got to hear his voice," di Bonaventura said of the character who thus far has only been able to communicate using existing media. "That’s the simple logic that we employed. The longer term implication of that is different. But the short-term implication of that is, since we really are resetting the mythology, essentially, of who Bumblebee is. And so, that seemed to us to be the appropriate, to get the chance to hear what he sounds like."

The voice actor in question will be Dylan O'Brien from Maze Runner and Teen Wolf. Here is what di Bonaventura had to say:

"Dylan has that great quality in his voice of youthful exuberance, and also sort of trustworthiness," the producer explained. "I think those are the two qualities that we wanted Bumblebee to have."
"Thankfully, we’ve showed it to a few audiences, and people seem to think that it’d be right and an appropriate voice," he said. "You never know, obviously that can be a sensitive thing for people. But it turns out, they imagine his voice that way."

*sigh*

You know, regardless of all the inconsistencies we get across the films, with someone like Bumblebee being as big a deal as he is in these movies, one would think that they'd be able to keep his voice about as consistent as the movies' other big deal Autobot, Optimus Prime.

We got Mark Ryan for Movie 1 and ROTF (in a deleted scene), no one in DOTM and AOE, and then Erik Aadahl in TLK. And now, we get a third voice in Dylan O'Brien for this movie.

I know, I KNOW! Voice changes in these movies are nothing new (Hugo Weaving to Frank Welker for Megatron, Sideswipe's two voices, etc.). But it's BUMBLEBEE. The biggest robot name in these movies besides Optimus, whose been consistently Peter Cullen across all of these films. Even some of the lesser Autobots like Ironhide, Ratchet, Wheelie, Brains, Hound, Crosshairs, and Drift have all kept consistency in their voices.

Ratchet alone remained voiced by Robert Foxworth across FOUR movies and he's hardly been any bit of noteworthy as a character in these films.

All I'm saying is, can't they just pick one single definitive voice for the biggest Autobot star of these movies and stick with him for any time that he needs to speak onscreen?

While I understand your point both of the other voice actors would absolutely not work for this version of Bumblebee because...

A:This is a prequel and he's younger here and designed to be cuter which neither Ryan or Erik's voices are

B: This movie regardless of whether it's a reboot or not is a new direction so why would the new director pick either of those guys?

Erik's lines weren't even intended to be the final Bee for Tlk in the first place but Bay liked the performance enough despite it being pretty mediocre, thank God they didn't go for him.

Ryan works as broken vocal cords older Bee which he isn't going to be either of those things at the start of the film he wouldn't have worked.

they're resetting Bumblebee's mythology, basically revealing that the movie is a reboot, so 'a robot that's been around for millions of years fighting' is invalid now.

I still think that they are waiting to see how this movie performs before fully conmiting themselves to a reboot now. If it doesn't do well, its just got enough links to the 07 movie to act like a prequel. If it does well, then the next film will be the one to fully break from the old continuity. We shall see.

On that note why is Bumblebee still considered young if he's millions of years old?

Why hasn't he matured in all of those years until that 30 year gap and then the years of the movies?

These are more reasons why the "million year war" will never stop being the single biggest worse concept the franchise has come up with, it both disregards the passage of time and makes stories even more contrived when they get to Earth because suddenly in a few years the status quo drastically changes.

How do you wage war for millions of years and never get anywhere? That's ignoring the wars that came before which would mean that the Cybertronian history is longer then existence.

As I mentioned before, they're resetting Bumblebee's mythology, basically revealing that the movie is a reboot, so 'a robot that's been around for millions of years fighting' is invalid now. They are aware of their huge mistakes and now they're fixing it.

Even if it's a reboot that doesn't mean there isn't a million year war still it just means there's a reboot to tell new stories.

Thanks to our very own jon3.0, we have some kind of fun and interesting news for you. Apparently, Entenmann's Little Bites, which is a brand of delicious tiny muffins in pouches (and a guilty pleasure of yours truly), is running a campaign where you can get $5 off a Bumblebee movie ticket! This campaign is advertised on their muffin boxes, and what it entails is you purchasing 3 or more boxes of Little Bites, 8 count boxes of mini donuts, or Entenmann's Minis between now and January 5, 2019, entering in via this link your name, address, and contact info along with your receipts, and finally you will be sent a promo code to purchase tickets from Fandango. It's really that simple!

So if you are planning on going to see the movie, head on out and pick yourself up some guilty pleasures and get yourself $5 off a ticket to see the Bumblebee movie! With early screenings this Saturday and the movie proper itself coming out over the course of the next 3 and a half weeks around the world, the Bumblebee hype is real!

Come one, come all! We have a little news roundup on some Bumblebee movie news, starting with (drumroll please):

Soundwave speaks! Yes we get to here his fine, autotuned voice. In this same clip, we see new footage of Bumblebee talking to Optimus Prime, as well as some more footage of Bumblebee and Blitzwing fighting. Here, he shoves a missile into Blitzwing and shoots it, causing an explosion! Thanks to user adam glam on Instagram for all this footage below!
Here is this video.
Image

Here we see Bumblebee trying to fix his voice briefly, in robot mode, as well as a new shot of Shatter and Dropkick, the later of whom threatens to burn the world to cinders... again.
Here is this video.
Image

Next, we get a featurette showing Bumblebee and Charlie trying to fix his voice!
Here is this video.
Image

Then, we have the full "Don't Run!" scene.
Here is this video.
Image

We have the clip of Charlie teaching Bee how to hide.
Here is this video.
Image

Another clip, this time of Sector seven chasing Bee through the woods.
Here is this video.

Last, but not least, a new, upbeat trailer, with multiple new shots he haven't seen! Check it out below!
Here is this video.

Any viewers from China? Well, today we have a confirmation of a release date: January 4th, 2019, two weeks after the North American showing. The article that tells us this comes from Variety.

In a similar vein, Tencent Pictures is collaborating with Paramount Pictures to properly import and distribute the movie, as well as advertising and promotion in mainland China. This is good news, as it is very likely this company can help improve sales in China, which often times, ends up being where much of the movies' profit comes from. The article can be read here, at Cision.

Finally, the fan screening over at the United Kingdom has finished, with a few pictures uploaded of the celebrities present too at Paramount Pictures' UK Facebook page.

Well that's what the trailer wants you to think, going by all the spots and trailers I've already pieced together what happens.

Well actually I do know what happens in the scene thanks to screening from today, I'll keep it short.

Spoilers for the fight between Bee and Blitzwing. (Not in depth but a gist of the events based off the trailers and word from someone who has seen the film tonight.)

So Blitzwing attacks Bee, they fight and such, Blitz takes Bee up the cliff and does the questioning thing and then drops him off the cliff and afterwards he goes down to finish him off which leads to the end that we see in the spot where Bee lodges a missile into Blitzwing and blows him up therefore killing him, at some point during this fight Blitzwing rips out Bee's voice box, so yes they do show his moment of death in the trailer.

So uh that statement in your article is not entirely accurate.

I mean even before I read stuff from the guy who saw it I had pieced together how the scene was gonna go down thanks to the latest spot.

At least Sector 7 doesn't kill Blitzwing.

Edit: in regards to the spot itself look how clear and good that cgi looks and how emotive Blitz is despite lacking a uh proper mouth.

That kinda confirms then what I heard elsewhere regarding Blitzwing, thanks deadput :) also unless they state in the film that bee is a young Cybertronian, the backstory is still a million year war. Now if this film is a success (and I hope it is, I need to wash the stain that was last knight away) then we'll see this as a proper reboot, if not, expect them to leverage this as a prequel to 07 and get ready for another film after they reboot gi Joe and the rest of the hasbro properties

That's what happens when you have Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings), having a background in animation, as the director. Of course he has a great team (visual effects, production design, etc) working alongside him.

Does anyone else think Soundwave's voice is a little... weird :???: I mean, I'm OK with it but it just feels a little off, and maybe it would have been better if the G1 voice actor was used instead. Maybe that's just me. Other than that, he looks awesome, and I can't wait for the Bumblebee movie to come out(for those of you who already watched it, can you confirm if his voice is the same as the spot?)

I like it, wasn't g1 Frank Welker with a voice effect? I think we should get used to new voices for these characters anyway... The G1 voice actors won't be around forever and some of them (like Welker have been around for decades already)

Actually, I'm already used to the new voice, so it doesn't bother me anymore. And you're right, it was Frank Welker who voiced Soundwave ;)^ , and I understand that they won't be around forever, so I should get used to new voice actors

I want to apologise as I read what I put back and I'm worried it seemed like i was having a go. That was not my intent :)

In regard to ZeroWolf's point, I'd be okay with the current Cyberverse voice actors taking over as the "go-to" voices for many of the Transformers, particularly Marc Swint as Soundwave. While I know it's one of the most iconic elements of not just Soundwave but Transformers as a whole, I've never been a fan of the vocoder effect on G1 Soundwave's voice, and I agree with Nathaniel that the voice in this teaser sounds weird.

As for everything else, I still can't decide whether or not to see Bumblebee when it's out. I am worried that I won't enjoy it, and that Cybertron flashback sequence just feels like it was written and animated by the Member Berries from South Park. That said I do like Hailee Steinfeld, so I may end up seeing the film just for her.

Don't worry about it, I fully understood what you meant the first time. And you don't have to apologize either ;) Besides, being forgiving is what makes me a Prime anyway
