Chuckdawg1999 wrote:While there are a few flaws to Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime, the figure is a great tribute to the classic Cybertron Leader Class figure. The armor comes together nicely although getting it situated on the back can be tricky. It also would've been nice to see some extra folding bits on the cannons that could replicate the spring-loaded features from the original toy too. Overall it cuts an impressive silhouette and would look good on any shelf.

Chuck brings up a good point. A repaint of sixgun as Leo/Nemesis breaker would be awesome.

I will add that in vehicle mode, the non painted wheels is not appealing and perhaps Toyhax will come out with something.
But all in all, still a cool figure in my opinion. I don’t own Ultra Magnus, so that would be a cool photo to see.
Who knows, may get him now.

Rodimus Prime wrote:I picked up Galaxy Upgrade Optimus last night/this morning and played with him a bit. It's a good figure, but not worth $50. I actually don't like the super mode, so he will be displayed without his backpack. It will stay in the box. However, I think the Prime figure itself is too bulky for its legs (something that wasn't so apparent with Magnus) so I will be keeping his leg armor on, which will make him slightly taller and his legs not seem like chicken legs, like SS38's are. The truck mode is not too bad, but the faux wheels do take away from the image a bit. But it won't matter, because I'll be keep him in robot mode on the shelf.

Thanks for that nice succint review. Further cements my idea not to pick it up and simply be happy with the original.
I did find some new stuff today (well, new for me). Got Siege Ironhide and Sixgun. The panel on the right leg doesn't peg as is the case with everyone but it doesnt flap around at all and aesthetically it doesnt really change anything. I am quite happy about that since I expected so much worse after reading the comments.

The side leg flaps on my Ironhide don't peg in too well, but it doesn't really matter, as they stay flush against the leg when in robot mode. The only real issue is that they fall off when you handle the figure, especially when transforming. Even if you're being as careful as possible, those panels will fall off at the slightest provocation. I wonder if we'll see a running change in the mold by the time Ratchet is released this fall.

Honestly after i got him to my office, I just opened it up and posed him and put him in place. I will say, mine does a at least have one loose leg. If you hold it up like Chuck does and shake it, the right leg on mine dangles so to speak.

Look closely at the detailing where the wheels are...LOOK CLOSER and you will see THEY ARE NOT WHEELS

Woah, wait a second, mine doesnt do that at all. It is very tight to the point where I was sure it was pinned.

I've heard reports both ways, that they're solidly in place, like yours, and that they're like mine, falling off at the drop of a hat. I'm not sure if it's a QC your mileage may vary sort of thing or if there was a running change and you got a later, revised release. Unfortunately, I've already thrown away my Ironhide box, so I can't tell you what the production stamp code was.

Another thing I found just a couple of minutes ago: another hinch on Six-Gun :

As I can see you have a Six-Gun. Just compare. His hips can hinch a bit back. Maybe it's just the lower screw that acts like a hinch here - I haven't opened him (yet).

Let's collect a few more data points before we news, maybe? I'll be happy to try and pick up an Ironhide with a code at or over 90471 tomorrow. Didn't see your post before I was able to go by Target earlier, but I did pick up Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime, who I wasn't really expecting to see on shelves in my area quite yet, but I'm not complaining!

Yes, he is a nice homage piece, like Magnus, but has nothing on the original. He does display well, but much like Shockwave, he's a voyager with some add-ons. Magnus can actually pass for a leader for the most part. I swapped the leg armors on Prime and Magnus and it made Magnus look a lot like his diaclone version, because the leg armors are red and blue with no whites. They match Magnus's chest armor nicely. However Magnus's leg armors on Prime just looked weird and out of place.

Ah yes, that's mentioned in the instructions as that joint is used to make the giant claw/hand.

Indeed But it's barely noticable. And doesn't make that weapon mode more stable.

Code - 90081
Flaps peg into the leg well, not too tight not too loose, but the panels fall off the hinges very easily. Not enough to fall off by themselves, but the slightest touch pops them off.
I do see the issue with both. The hole that faces the front of the figure is slightly too small. A tiny hand drill would fix it right up.
But considering the pegs hold them on solid, I'm not worried about it. All other joints so far seem nice and snug as well.
Digging his hammer gun and I need to get him and TR Kup together to form a hollow windshield chest club. I dig it
Piception!

So, it looks like 90081 is still too early in production for the flaps to be "fixed" in terms of staying on their friction hinge. I'll definitely be looking for an Ironhide that is at least as recent as Will's 90471 production run. I hope this really is a running change and not just luck of the draw quality control.

Oh man, so many damn codes. although so far it seems mine is the only one which is super solid.
By the way, is it not fun to now say we all have a deluxe ironhide in our collecton? Like this guy is one of the main autobots, and yet only now do I actually have a figure I feel comfortable putting in a scene with all my CHUG figures. Right size and all that.
Plus that vehicle mode is all kinds of IDWlecious

He's certainly far better than the Universe 2008, blue-faced, undersized panel line ridden "Ironhide" we've been putting up with for over 10 years. That mold is so ashamed of what it is that it can't even look you in the eye, lol! (Smart Points for anyone who understands that allusion!)
