We had a whole fanfare of upcoming movie news for a while until everyone was burnt out of the unreliable nature of the news (even though it was coming from the producer) to the point that most movie news sites chose to just stop reporting anything unless there was something truly concrete. Well, we actually have some concrete news now. We learn through Variety that two script writers are currently writing two different scripts that are meant to become the next Transformers films in the franchise. Variety states that these two films are in active development. One of the scripts is written by Joby Harold who wrote the Guy Ritchie King Arthur film, and who also wrote the script for the DCEU Flash film Warner Bros has yet to deliver. The other script is written by  James Vanderbilt whose most recent films are the Adam Sandler Netflix movie Murder Mystery, The Meg and Independence Day Resurgence.

I was wondering if any of the crew of Bumblebee would return.
Hopefully these new guys to the Franchise deliver a nice story.

I wish that the image was used officially. Looks very nice, what with the two eras in the Movie continuity being presented.

From what I know of the DC movies so far, and of Independance day resurgance and the meg, those are not writing credits that make me feel good. But I didn't watch those movies either, and I'm just going by hear-say to tell me they were bad, so I want to be wrong.

I think Travis Knight has only directed Kubo and the Two Strings before you never know sometimes you hit it out of the park. At least they have some credits. Just tryin’ to see the positives here. Bumblebee II ASAP please. Can’t wait!

I haven't seen James Vanderbilt work yet,but I believe Joby Harold has it in him,to create a great Transformers script.Look at this scene in King Arthur: Legend of The Sword:

Jude Law's perfomance is great, but you have to give credit to the writing,it's not hard to see a Decepticon leader giving this speech.

Ok, that speech is chilling and totally perfect for a tyrant like Megatron or Starscream.

The only James Vanderbilt films I've seen are The Amazing Spider-Man (which I didn't think very much of) and The Meg (which was decent enough, nothing fantastic but not bad either). If he truly is writing a Beast Wars film I'd be down for that, though I'm not expecting a masterpiece. I haven't seen King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, but haven't heard great things about it, so I'm not sure what to think about the writer tackling a Bumblebee sequel.

oh man, if they go with a beast wars movie like i've heard, i can only speculate on what they'd do with it.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: What made Beast Wars so good in the first place would likely never be recaptured by Hollywood.

With our luck, we'd end up with Optimus Primal throwing his feces at the camera while Megatron (voiced by a misdirected Sylvester Stallone) roars all of his dialogue (because he's a dinosaur, geddit?), while Cheetor (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the personal ride/pet/aide/sidekick/etc. of the movie's lead role who, for some reason, is an obnoxious human character played by a white male actor with a macho physique and a 'Murica! attitude.

Oh f**k no!

Omg, haven't they learned anything? The King Arthur writer? That film has practically no writing. That's the new guy?

And the other a freaking Adam Sandler movie? The Meg are you kidding me? Independence Day Resurgence, I do have that on blu ray but it's just a mindless conveluted (probably misspelled that, what I meant stacked on sh*t) mess of a movie with oh well f*ck it writing .

I had hopes for the new Transformers film, I saw somewhere (youtube so probably lies) that Bumblebee 2 will have Megatron in it and will be a full reboot scrapping the terrible Nascar dudebro, same plot every movie films. They'll probably also add a terrible soulless director who made a Justin Bieber movie or directed the Smurfs before this.

I'm sorry for being so grumpy but I'm starting to feel that Bumblebee was just a fluke in their idea of Transformers films and that they are course correcting back to embarassing nonsense.

You know there are good writers and director's out there. I heard (again youtube) that Christopher Nolan is going to I think direct the new Green Lantern movie. Now Nolan is too good for Transformers, I can see that. But please get half a decent writer and director to do this. The special effects are always A-Team, but man every thing else, what the hell.

Let's not judge the writers too harshly till we see something tangible (okay I'm not thrilled at the idea of a Nolan Green Lantern but at the same time, I'll reserve judgement till I at least see a trailer, and find out which Green Lantern they'll be doing). Afterall nothing could come of these scripts in the end (and that's nothing to say what will remain of the original scripts once rewrites are done.

Rewrites, directorial editing, studio exe editing, test screenings, further rewrites, reshoots, and edits before it hits theaters. ALL the THINGS that can ruin a movie; I mean look at what happened to the Dark Phoenix movie, and probably the New Mutants movie, it was heavily rewritten and had outside pressure of a studio sale.

A script's writer can't be discounted, but neither can it be counted upon, and the same with the director. All we as fans can hope for is that the people sitting in the writer/director/editor's chair actually care about the project and franchise behind it. That is what helped Bumblebee be(e?) great, and what helped make the Marvel movies great (Kevin Feige). IMO, we could almost dump di Bonaventura, and get a Feige like person to take command.

Anyway, this rant brought to you by the crap show that is the Last Knight being the only thing *worth* watching on TV right now...

*Looks it up real quick* Bonaventura did, but has also produced the entire run of the live action movies and all of their :michaelbay: plot holes and inconsistencies. Feige, in his work on/with the MCU, is constantly on sets, interacting with directors and screenwriters, and being present to know what is going on. In behind the scene documentaries or footage for the TF movies Bonaventura is never mentioned or seen, and like the difference between Travis Knight and Michael Bay, people that genuinely care about their product do better than people using it as a paycheck. The only producer I saw that interacted with making one of the TF films was Bay in Bumblebee and only really because that was the filming day where they were working on the quarry explosion scene. :michaelbay: :michaelbay: :michaelbay: Knight has even said that Bay was only really there for action scenes.

Thanks to reports coming in new outlets including Deadline, we have news that the next live action Transformers film has finally received a release date.

This information comes to us from Paramount themselves, as reported by Deadline. The next film was given the release date of June 24, 2022, which will place it almost 4 years after the Bumblebee movie in terms of release date, following a similar release date difference to the Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction break. This also places it back in the Summer release schedule time period, which prior to Bumblebee every live action Transformers had followed.

There are currently 2 films scripts that are up for consideration for this time slot, which includes the Beast Wars based film written by James Vanderbilt of Murder Mystery fame, and another movie set in the prior live-action universe written by Joby Harold of Army of the Dead Fame. Which movie will get this slot is yet to be determined, and whether or not both films get made is also still up for debate.

This is also separate from the Animated Transformers film.

Check out the excerpt from the Deadline article below, and let us know what you think of this news in the comments section below!

Paramount has given a date for a new live-action Transformers movie of June 24, 2022.

The studio is in development on two different projects: one by Murder Mystery scribe James Vanderbilt and the other by John Wick Chapter 3 EP and Army of the Dead scribe Joby Harold. The Vanderbilt project, from what we’ve heard, is based on Transformers spinoff Beast Wars which are robots that transform into robotic animals like Cheetor (Cheetah), Optimus Primal (Gorilla), Rhinox (Rhinoceros) and more. The other is reportedly in the Bumblebee universe. It’s not definite yet which one will make it to production.

As much as I REALLY want a Live Action Beast Wars, I feel like Hasbro is going to go with the animated movie. It just seems easier to market, and of course Hasbro wants to sell more Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream, etc toys rather than toys of "new" characters that many people wont recognize (speaking of the majority of filmgoers who's main/only exposure to Transformers has been Bayverse).

Hasbro has been moving away from the original creative spark that drove the franchise in the early 2000s for the 5ish years or so, choosing to rehash G1 over and over. I honestly miss the old days when they would be creative and try a whole new version of the franchise, which is how we got Beast Wars in the first place.

So given all that, I think it's a safe bet we'll be seeing this animated "prequel", full of characters who we've been seeing/buying for nearly a decade now.

But I could be completely wrong, and I really hope so. Let Transformers be different again!

I did not, thanks for pointing that out! In that case, I believe it'll be a potential Bumblebee follow-up, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all. But I still stand by my take on the LA Beast Wars, the most we can do at this point is hope.

If it was a beast wars movie, would they get the original voice cast to return (or just Primal)? They made a big deal of getting Cullen for prime in the normal movies, I just wonder if they would extend thd same courtesy to Gary

I'd imagine most of these characters are given to bigger actors, as they don't quite have the appeal of 'muh GEEWUN' so they can get away with recasting almost everyone. That said: Scott McNeill back as Waspinator would be the one thing I'd want out of this movie, even if everything else is absolute childhood-breaking garbage.

Just because, damn it, its Waspinator.

Warden can cover his ears all he wants, but a huge chunk of the bw season 1 cast is in the tf hall of fame, clearly, there's something there.

I think a live action bw movie could look interesting, with all the live action animal-based movies disney has put out, there is a lot of software out there all ready that could make them really animated and expressive (a hallmark of all the bw characters if you ask me)

Only if the voice over recording is outsourced to Vancouver, Canada instead of done locally in Los Angeles (as was done for the previous films and understandably so since these films are Hollywood productions).

I would like to see the Maximals and Predacons on the big screen, but I really hope that with the way TLK ended we get a proper conclusion to that story.

Yes, I know I'm in the small minority of those who want that.

They could do like X-men:Days of Future Past and make the present day storyline cross paths with the past timeline.

This might be an ok movie in-of-itself but anyone getting their hopes up that it's going to meet any expectations that this movie will be like the Beast Wars show is going to be disappointing.

Even if they have the Transformer designs just like the show the movie story and such itself will be new, it will be the Bayformers of Beast Wars even if it's a good movie, this is a reimagining not an adaptation.

They can't fit more then 5 or so episodes of story into one movie so the scope will be limited and so will the characters.

I'm not saying this movie will be bad, I'm saying it will not live up to expectations.

As much of a fan of Beast Wars as I am, I really hope this film never comes to be. Make a Bumblebee sequel, sure. It had more going for it than the previous few Live Action films, but not Beast Wars.

The part they don't get is Beast Wars isn't "a spin off" (I rolled my eyes when I read that), it is a Legacy series. Is there enough legacy to the Bayformers series to portray their future descendants? Absolutely not. They barely set foot off of Earth. Hardly a civil war across the galaxy that would influence the future.

Just throwing out a brand name, as a cash grab, will always lure a certain set of people. But a gross misunderstanding of what that property even is, dooms the film before it even starts. As far as explaining BW to a general audience, I'd expect it to be equally as superficial...

Studio: "That Optimus Prime turns into an ape"
General Audience: "Why?"
Studio: "Because Beast Wars. Geddit?"

There isn't much to really go off of for an ending anyways using only TLK and it's ending.

Quintessa is...alive? She certainly doesn't seem like she once was and besides scheming has little to no power, Megatron got literally disarmed and then got his butt kicked out of a ship (strange to me how it was Nitro Zeus that was the last man standing even if so brief so good for him) and for all we know he died on impact although unlikely which leaves him the biggest loose end, Barricade either escaped to live another day or was killed at Stonehenge.

As for Unicron? Well here is an easy answer, he sleeps and never wakes up which might lead to his death via whatever Quintessa's plan was going to be.

The Autobots go home to Cybertron and maybe get it out of Earth's orbit, the humans have their happy ever afters, consider the Bayverse ended.

The problem is, that satisfys no one but those who don't like the movies. There is several ways they could take things, and Quintessas plan probably involves doing more then just keeping unicron asleep. Being asleep is not the same as being dead afterall, there's always a chance to wake up (ask Cthuthulu about that). One way to solve the issue is that Unicron's essence is transferred into a host (willing or not) to take the fight to our heroes.

Remember, there's very few bad ideas, just terrible execution. The Bumblebee sequel could turn out just like Revenge of the Fallen depending on writers etc.

I should clarify though that I see a last knight sequel about as likely as G1 Wheelie getting a spin off movie where him and Live Action Wheelie end up in a comedy buddy trip movie. My point is that there's always places to take things of you've got writers willing to do the work, and there's people who want to see more of what happens (just they're in the same boat as those who want Amazing Spider Man 3)

His lasting the longest was likely leftover from an earlier script in which he would have been decapitated and had his body taken over by Cogman, Headmaster-style, based on how the Nitro Zeus toy is Titan Master-compatible for seemingly no in-story reason when going off the final version of the movie.

He might be but the Tfwiki (yes I know it's fan made and thus not official word or anything) considers him to be dead so I was listing him off as dead as a possibility even though he's probably alive and I don't consider anyone dead where possible in these movies, I'm an advocate of the "Dino is alive" camp.

ZeroWolf wrote:The problem is, that satisfys no one but those who don't like the movies.

This is true but you want to know what also wasn't satisfying to Bay fans?

The Last Knight, which is a shame because I went to that 25 minute movie preview thing where they had the early Hot Rod voice and such, and I liked what we saw there but then again very rarely does a preview pick the worst pieces from a film to show.

Still worth it for that poster and usb thing.

Obviously things were not properly planned but if it were up to me The Last Knight should of been a 2 part film, one dealing with the junk yard situation and a more down to Earth (literally) film with the Autobots dealing with Megatron's gang while part 2 would of been the whole Cybertron and Evil Prime stuff.

While true of course, what was intended for the film and ultimately what is in the film are different things, regardless Nitro Zeus is the best thing from the film to me and my fave Decepticon in the franchise as ridiculous as that sounds, he's got plenty of potential in another part of the franchise as a Decepticon who talks and acts like a dumb grunt but is a surprisingly competent hunter for Shockwave, yes toy/website bios aren't exactly "canon" but it's a part of why I like the character.

Don't feel bad for that, there so many character that only had characterization because of those bios. ;)^

This is true, the creative imagination from fans and creators is a big part of why Transformers is the way it is today.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that yet another Transformers film is in the works, one separate from
  • the Bumblebee sequel written by Joby Harold and directed by Steven Caple, Jr.,
  • the Beast Wars project written by James Vanderbilt,
  • and the much older, still-in-the-works animated prequel film written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari and directed by Josh Cooley.
This new standalone project is to be written by Marco Ramirez and directed by Angel Manuel Soto.

Fellow Seibertronian Sabreblade has informed us of a 4th Transformers film currently in development. That's right, with the addition of this one, there are now four transformers films with creative teams attached. Anything could happen, of course, but as of now all the projects are in development. This new film project is being written by Marco Ramirez (who wrote Netflix' Defenders) and has Angel Manuel Soto pegged as director Angel Manuel Soto, who did Charm City Kings. All that is known is that this film will not be linked to any current film series, it will be its own thing.

Here are the other 3 Transformers films currently in development:

- the Bumblebee sequel written by Joby Harold and directed by Steven Caple, Jr.,
- the Beast Wars project written by James Vanderbilt,
- the animated prequel film written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari and directed by Josh Cooley.

While there are currently 4 Transformers films currently in development, the next live action installment in the live action film franchise will be shooting in Montreal in two studios, MELS Studios stage 3 and MTL Grandé. This will take place for 11 weeks, from July to September, before continuing filming in Peru. The site this comes from, Journal de Montréal, also states the budget is estimated to be $200 Million. This is more in line with the films that preceded Bumblebee, which is what Lorenzo di Bonaventura also stated a while back, when commenting that the next film would be a return to the bigger Transformers films.

Interesting tidbit.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I seem to be seeing more and more movies made outside of Hollywood, and not just the settings. I'm wagering the lower taxes and fees in states like Georgia where we are seeing a lot of movies being made, and in Vancouver and Montreal are making a difference. Off topic, but when they said Montreal, I was struck by how much of production has moved out of the state of California.

So now, the question every is wondering...

Will we FINALLY get an RCMP Transformer? :HEADHURTS: :HEADHURTS:

Best of luck for them!
Now we just wait for the titles to be confirmed.

Wow I am so completely void of being impressed.

Same producer, no-name people attached to the project.

A Bumblebee sequel without Travis Knight, I know he didn't want to do a sequel but still, who is this other guy?

200 milion dollars only means special effects and nice locations.

I'm just going to sit here waiting for the two Cyberverse movies and enjoy the great Generation toys that have come out in the past couple of years.
