New Combiner Wars Devastator Pics Show Off Massive Scale

Mr. U.S. President, I regret to inform you that your Devastator is horribly mistransformed.

Never mind the robot, who is *that*..?

Honestly, is there any other company on Earth that is this lazy when trying to showcase new products? Do car manufacturers present their latest models at expos with the doors installed backwards? Does Microsoft unveil laptops with all the keys arranged upside-down?

These are children's toys for goodness sake, it's not rocket surgery to follow the instructions to Transform them properly! The average consumer might look at that display, think it looks hideous and simply move on, needlessly costing Hasbro money and drawing unfair criticism to their designers. Yes, this Devastator is clearly a design for older fans, but you'd think they'd want to draw in as many younger fans as possible... It's simply not gonna happen if they have crappy displays like that!

I love laughing at the ridiculous mistransformations in the "professional" stock photography as much as the next guy (that recent Combiner Wars Hot Spot was a cracker!), but come on... Have some pride in your products, Hasbro!

I don't know... to be fair the difficulty ratings on Transformers is INSANE since the 80's... Add in the fact that the instructions are often just poorly angled pictures leaving it up to interpretation what you're doing...

I'm getting better at these puzzlebots, and I doubt he'll be as tough as the Masterpiece primes or some of the 3pp stuff, but even Skydive's shoulders I just realized they were supposed to rotate back in jet mode.

I never would have expected 6 figures to be of masterpiece quality and as large as small child and still only cost what one of them cost...

It's still a comparasion between the $100+ or the $500+ 3P figures... And at that outlook I'm still looking forward to it

True dat. It looks like something bought in a beach shop to amuse toddlers in the sand. It's getting to the point where the budget wannabe transforming toys like Roadbots are looing much more impressive than the real deal. I mean, just look at those shitty clip-on wheels on Devastator. They look ugly, cheap and fragile.

This also happens to be 4x bigger than a Roadbot.

Its massive, and oh no very hollow. look at the bottom of the feet. Devastator might even crumple under his own weight.

I know I'm not the first to comment on the mistransfomation, but it is so bad, that I feel justified in adding my two cents, as well.

There is mistransformations, and there is this. What the smeg in hell is this? At least in most mistransformations, the result is still functional and there is only an effect on the aesthetics of the product. But what was whoever assembled this thing smoking?

First of all, if the end result cannot even stand up on its own, you need to maybe go back and give it another crack.

And secondly... what is going on with his left arm? How does that even look remotely like an arm? These don't strike me as the most complex toys ever, yet that alleged arm is just a total mish-mash of just randomly positioned parts splayed any which way but the one way they should be. It almost seems like pure luck that the connecter joint ended up in an accessible location.

Seriously...?

The more pictures that come out for this set, the less and less thrilled I am. My purchase outlook on this set has gone from "hell yes!", to "probably not".

Metroplex had his initial release through BBTS at BotCon, followed by retail at TRU.
He was then released to and sold by Amazon and HTS. Costco had him as a Christmas special item. Target did not carry him at all, regardless of what people or their website might have said. Wal*Mart.com did carry him, but the stores did not.

Mainly due to his size and price point. He was never exclusive to anyone, it's just that no one really wanted to carry him in a B&M store, aside from TRU. Considering how well he sold at their stores and the apparently limited numbers, it felt like he was an exclusive at least.

Great detective work. I was really foggy on the Target. Also there was the SDCC exclusive Metroplex with the nice box/packaging. The $200 price point was too rich for my blood.

Sweet Primus, what have you done? You've mistransformed him. Look what your careless hands have wrought. Without tabs, this thin plastic cannot support it's weight. Each movement this unnatural best lives is like a thousand years of misery.

Select the hammer, then select the Devastator.

It'll take more than hollow plastic (that there is one MASSIVE figure;henceforth,potentially HEAVY) and haphazard transformations to dissuade me from acquiring the first properly sized official Devastator. The complaints here pale in comparison to the awkward proportions and diminutive,disappointing size of the original. Once he's unboxed at home he will be properly transformed and displayed in all his titanic glory!

People complaining about mistranformation don't like it look at display picture below as title of topic displays showing off how tall he is not what he looks like we know what he looks like up close transformation shouldn't mean anything no one is perfect throw this guy in jail for mistransformation big deal so he's missing hand, chest plate and his gun mistransformation not going to effect someone decision on buying something does it some people made decision before and after this picture was upload they are going to buy it mistransformation has nothing to do with it it's how well you looks to person from images on display at toy shows it look good buy it doesn't don't buy base toy on transformed properly and scale is having don't judge book it's cover until you read don't judge toy on how it's transformed, scale could be missing out on a lot of fun until you see review see it person in your hand to judge by,

I don't understand how anyone is looking at these pics to inform their purchasing decision beyond the idea of scale these pics give. We already have a bunch of far better in hand pics of this toy and all its components. I would strongly recomend looking at those for any indication of the toy beyond it's scale.

I find him super hard to pose. Those connection ports are not very solid and quite small.

Why do you think he is so happy? The man is obviously a Robosexual. He didn't mistransform Devastator after all, that's just Devastator being all disheveled in the aftermath.

I've got to say, I only picked up Prime because I am a slut for G1 (or G1-ish) Optimus Primes. I wasn't expecting much, though, based on photos I'd seen... But once I had him in hand, he's a pretty cool toy. Only real complaint I'd have left is the unpainted (unpaintable?) grey plastic... But whenever I get around to making my next Reprolabel order, that should get fixed.

He's not about to replace Classics Optimus Prime on my "Classics" style Autobot shelf, but I am happy to have him on one of my Optimus Prime shelves!

I usually try not to be that guy (a grammar Nazi)... But since this was in response to me, I tried really hard to follow it... And, dude. Please. If nothing else, maybe try some punctuation here and there? If English isn't your first language, I apologize. But trying to read that, I gave up about half way through.

If I got the gist of it, you're saying we shouldn't judge too harshly these latest photos since we've already had some previous photos of him transformed more properly? Yes, we have. And your point is?

I'm not saying, "Oh my god, look how mistransformed that it! I will not buy that toy because of this!" (I'm not buying it anyway, but for different reasons.) Nor am I saying anything about the toy's scale, or demanding that the gentleman in the photo (apparently Va'al's new crush?) should be sent to jail.

I'm saying, "Oh my god, look how mistransformed that is! It is comically bad!" And while not calling for incarceration, if the man's job it to set up these toys for display, then there is nothing wrong with bringing attention to his incompetence above and beyond even the usual expected mistransformations. In this case, it is almost comical how pathetically bad Devastator is mistransformed.

My comment was just directed at people who were making purchasing decisions based on those very pictures. So I gave them some better ones. Thus, it wasn't directed at you at all, since you have no intention on purchasing this toy.

The original post says this picture was taken at a toyfair in Brazil, apparently guys in Brazil are getting him at the same time or sooner than in the US...

For those who don't know much about the current business climate in Brazil, importing stuff is super expensive, so they have factories down there for stuff like playstations (its cheaper to travel to Miami to buy one than importing one!) I'm not a hundred percent sure but I think they have a Hasbro factory down there. And that is why they have a Devastator at their toy fair.

IMO, even mistransformed, Devastator is nowhere near as bad as that POS or its repaints.

If I didn't already have Maketoys Green Giant and was happy and content with it, I'd jump on this new Devastator in a heart beat. But as it is, I'm just not in the market for a Devastator. So unless someone is just really curious for my review of him, enough to buy me one themselves, I don't expect to own this toy.

And I totally get your stance. You see, I have no Devastator so this release automatically calls to me.

I like the stunticons, but menasor feels very hallow and is flimsy.and is difficult to stand.( mine falls back all the time)

I hope the constructicons feel/are sturdy enough to stand up, but considering he's 6 voyagers, I don't have my hopes up.

Eh... When I first thought it would be fun to do reviews, my first thought was video reviews. After about four or so of them, I just didn't feel I was doing that well at them. So I transitioned to the photo and text based reviews I do now. And somehow, I don't think those will play as well on Youtube!

Alas, it is a bit harder to get that cult following when your material is on its own website that people would have to specifically go looking for, rather then doing a search on Youtube for whatever figure they are hoping to see a review of. But who knows? Maybe someday I can have a cult of my own. Then I can work on some nefarious plans for world domination. Mwa ha ha ha ha.

I'm sure he will stand just fine when not horribly mistransformed! In fact, stability for Deastator standing is apparently to blame for Scrapper's lack of elbows. (Although I'd rather they have given him elbows and just found some way to lock the elbow joints in position when he is forming Devastator's foot... But I suppose that wouldn't have been cost effective or something.)

No, my opinion disagrees, the proportions are not very impressive.
Grimlock's a bit of a mess. I like my combiner torso's to be kind of buff.

I had no plans to pick up the Stunticons. My experiences with CW Optimus did not endear me to that mold's combined form. That said, the Deluxes look pretty awesome from the pictures I've seen. I also got to get a look at Motormaster in person yesterday at my local TRU, and he certainly looked nice.

I'm still no fan of CW Menasor, but the Stunticons in their non-combined form are starting to call to me.

Get your hopes back up. We've seen this guy standing up on his own. Stability will not be an issue. He might not be able to hold a pose without some support, but that's a problem resulting from the intersection of physics, articulation, and cost.
