Thanks to Seibertronian Cyberpath we bring to you new images of MP-36 Megatron, courtesy of Transformers Generations 2017! These very blurry images are a preview showcase for Takara Tomy products coming out in 2017. The cover includes Masterpiece Megatron, Optimus Primal, Grapple, Inferno, and Cheetor along with Legends Ginrai, Godbomber, Fortress Maximus, and Lio Convoy. The inside features such things as a Legends poster, a Beast Wars 20th Anniversary feature, a G1 comic feature, Live action movie 10th anniversary line feature, MP Megatron feature, and a Legends, Adventure and Unite Warriors feature. Check out the pictures mirrored below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

Edit: We also got an exclusive piece of news from Guido Guidi himself from our forums:
Also, the G1 comic is written by Simon Furman (with art by me) :D

That's right Seibertronians: the legendary duo have written and drawn this comic! Check out the rough page of art below!

They haven't hid any angles. There are early pictures of Megatron at 90 degree angles from the front, back and side. Just go deeper into the thread.

fenrir72 wrote:Was the gun barrel really meant to be centered anyway?

Yeah, I didn't mean that the gun barrel was centered (or should be) on Meg's body. For this particular MP Release, it appears to be further off center than what looks good. Let me see if I can find the pics.

I guess that MP-05 is pretty far off center too. From the animation models, to my eye, the barrel should be right about half-way point between head and shoulder. MP-36 has the barrel pretty much just above the shoulder.

I was just commenting that the nice pictures Cyberpath posted make Megs look really good, but the picture angles hide just how far off-center the gun barrel is on the back.... And that bugs me (the so much off-center gun barrel, not the pic angles).

Well, I've already put my preorder in for him. And when TFSource had MP Shockwave for $100, I couldn't resist that either.
Can't wait to have these two and MP Soundwave together on a shelf.
That's got to be something on my "TF Bucket List".

There are two comics in this book. One by the dynamic duo of Simon Furman and Guido Guidi, and another by the major Japanese Transformers throwback duo of Masumi Kaneda and Ban Magami (the guys who did all of the original Japanese G1 manga from 1985-1992).

I would have probably gone with something more dramatic and less... expressive. But it doesn't really matter.

It could be legit, but obviously this isn't printed... If this is the real deal, it's just an electronic version.
Just looks a bit too sharp with the focus.
At the same time, this wouldn't be all that difficult to piece together in Ps.

LOL. I had preordered mine through A-E after it was mentioned that they'd insert the orange plug free of charge. I was still debating if I wanted them to go that route, and was leaning against it since a few folks including Seiberton mentioned that they never had issues importing without the plug. But after seeing that box, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have them insert it.

mp-05 had a pic of the gun on his box.
x-transbots cares. they put no gun images on the box and they pre-inserted orange caps at the factory so people could keep him mib.

I, myself, ordered from A-E last week; after a few emails with CS, I decided to allow them to insert the orange plug. They even mentioned about possibly using a certain tape that can easily be removed:

"we do carefully the job, however whole risk is on us. If the product gets damaged, we will replace it. We are still checking about what to use, one option would be easy orange tape (easily removable)."

I assume we have until they receive the product to decide if we want them to insert the plug? Easily removable orange tape would be awesome.

That's all well and good for American collectors... But here in Australia, it's illegal to even own a pretend "replica" gun without a gun license & importing this would be problematic at best. When Australian customers tried to import the first MP-Megatron, they were almost all seized by customs & destroyed, barring the select few who elected to pay the exorbitant, life-long upkeep on a license & pre-warned customs officials regarding their purchase.

That totally sucks, bro. I assume those who imported MP-05 never got their money back, right? That is the most absurd, asinine thing I've ever heard of. Even our customs laws are ridiculous when it comes to toys that resemble guns.

It sounds like importing it yourself through a Japanese retailer is a huge risk not worth taking. Where does that leave you and/or other Australian TF collectors? Does it mean you either have to go through the legal (and expensive) way of obtaining it, or more realistically not having it in your collection? Or are there other means?

What about Burn's method? Or are the rules dependent on a particular state there?

In my state, even owning Apollyon (which I somehow managed to sneak through customs via eBay) would require a special gun license & "letter of approval" from the local police commissioner, allowing me to retain possession (even if he innocently stands in robot mode on my bookshelf, as he does). This "license" costs about $300AUD & expires every 3 years, meaning you have to repeat the process in perpetuity (or however long you keep your "devastating weapon of mass destruction") & (now that you've informed the police about your owning it), you cannot sell it to a third party if that party is not also in possession of those same ridiculous credentials.

Fortunately, I got away with "illegally" obtaining Apollyon, but frankly, the official release doesn't look *that* much better to my eye, so I wont bother taking additional unnecessary risks. Further, if someone were to break into my house & steal Apollyon, somehow transform him without the instructions (good luck!) & were to attempt to hold up a bank or something, I could be held liable for not declaring it as a "replica weapon." How do you like them apples?! :CON:

Based on those instructions, it looks like the trigger guard stores away inside the robot mode's shins, while the robot mode chestplate hides away inside the top of the gun's body in gun mode.

Also, heh, the instructions refers to Megatron's waist pieces as a "skirt". :P

Seibertronian Cyberpath has done it again, providing us with scans courtesy of Cheem of the Transformers Generations booklet where the new Masterpiece Megatron has been shown off. Among the scanned images are a look at the process of designing a good masterpiece, with the "ideal" robot mode designed first, followed by something that looks as close to it as possible, but is still capable of Transformation. The process also shows the designing of the chest along with the alternate parts and accessories, and even a look at how they were attempting to perfect his chin curve!

Following this is a sneak peak at Megatron's Transformation, which appears quite intricate. Among the observations are that it appears the trigger guard is absorbed into the shins, and the chest plate is stored away on top of the gun mode.

To be fair, Transformers 'how to draw' guides are guilty of this generally.
