Where? Have you ever tried to buy a handgun? If you walk into a store that has an MP-5, you can buy it instantly with no fuss by handing money to a register jockey. If you buy it on the internet, you have to wait for it to be shipped to you. And, God forbid, you MIGHT just have to suffer the thought that someone besides the hundreds of people at the factory might touch your figure to apply an easily removed orange cap.
To buy a legitimate handgun, you need to fill out an application; wait three to seven days (depending on the state law, all the while allowing hundreds of government workers (and we all know if anyone hires the most honest, best and brightest employees, it's our government)) before you can even pick up the item, IF you can get it; apply for a concealed carry permit to take it in your car with you; buy trigger locks and a gun safe so that your idiot kid* doesn't kill little Timmy when he comes over to play.
But yeah, it's so much easier to get a legitimate real gun than a toy one.
*Idiot kid is an expression and does not directly desribe the offspring of anyone on this or any other website.

If I could go back to the 80's when that kid aimed a Megatron at the cops, I'd punch him in the face before he could do it.

Simple fact is this. Customs seems to be doing different things from state to state. Some are seizing, some aren't.

Anyone else notice at how they have shrunk the image of MP Megatron down so it looks comparable in size to the actual Handgun? I expect no less but this kind of dodgy reporting from NineMSN.

Second are the people complaining about the Aussie customs laws Aussies themselves? While I think access to firearms may be a bit easier in Austrailia than Europe, I don't think they have the relative ease of obtaining a firearm you have in most U.S. states. Sorry this is a drag to our action figure hobby, but in the big picture, not as sore a deal as some folks are weezing about it.

Alkthough it was a nice change not to have a "news" story not about Mundine or Britney for once...
Also I think the reason why so many are being nabbed in NSW is because NSW needs the $$$ from people having to get all the paperwork and licenses more than any other state.
For people who couldn't pass the Police academy exams, Customs Officers sure can stuff up so many people...

I think it's harder to recognize than you think.
MP Megatron is 3/4 scale larger than a Walter P-38. The G1 Megatron is 3/4 smaller than a real one. Side by side you will notice the difference. But out on the street it's different.
If you are a cop standing 25 feet away from a suspect with a gun pointed at you - head on, you would have only a split second to make a decision if it's fake.

Actually it was a 10 year od wearing a Laser Tag vest with the Laser Tag gun in hand in Chicago (I think) in broad daylight, if memory serves me correctly. And Laser Tag looked about as real as a 4 gallon Super Soaker. Cop literally jumped and blamed the toy. No crimes or accidents with an actual Transformer that spring to mind but it really wouldn't shock me.

Why all the bloody fuss and bother over a bloody toy is beyond me really, yeah people could mistake it for a real gun (but I really doubt it), but really what nut case of a TF collector would wonder round in the open with him in gun mode!
That and the gun mode is huge, anyone can tell by just the sheer size that its not a real gun! [/RANT]

Fireblast wrote:Want to blame someone blame congress. Also blame those stupid martyr's like that kid at Virginia Tech. I mean they should reissue G1 Megs here in the states because it's a lot smaller than a real Walther P-38. And from what you guys claim about Masterpiece Megs is larger than a Walther P-38.
Contrary to popular belief, Congress doesn't make laws in Australia.
As Trunksy pointed out earlier, gun laws in Australia were tightened extremely over a decade ago because of the Port Arthur massacre (it holds the record for the number of people killed). Pretty much all States and Territories fell into line with Federal Government rules.
The result saw a major increase in memberships for gun clubs. Locally it was a headache for a lot of farmers as before they had their rifles to deal with feral pigs, now they need to renew their license every couple of years and justify why they need their rifle (which in the end turns out to be pointless if your farm backs onto a National Park and little piggy runs to hide in it)
So please, let's not hear the moaning about gun laws in America, this is about MP Megatron in Australia and why Customs have cracked down.

I find this rather amusing. However, beats the orange plug deal. Or do you guiys have that issue as well?
Posted by Anubiz on May 11th, 2007 @ 3:33am CDT
We also don’t have to worry about the orange tip so the pic in that story is obviously from a US source or just some random one.

Also really agree with you on the fix there Burn. Australian Media is like...nope, nothing I'm out of metaphors for saying horse shit. It's been a long day...
And contrary to popular belief this isn't amusing at all. I like to know my $165 action figure is safe and sound.
My thoughts go out to the people here in AUS still waiting for their Megs and shat themselves over this news.

Anubiz wrote:It’s not an issue at all, one shipment in NSW got checked and that’s all. I haven’t see it mentioned on any sites that people have had problems getting him and the store that I got mine sure haven’t had any problems.
There was a story (not sure how reliable it was) about a store in WA getting their shipment of 80 Megatrons seized.
Stories seem to be varying from state to state. One guy on TAAU got his direct (I think from HLJ) shipped to Victoria and it was seized whereas TFT who are also based in Victoria had no problems.

Seriously, besides it being oversized, there is no way this thing could be used or converted into a weapon.

I was thinking that same thing back when I first heard all the customs issues to begin with before the MP Megs even came out. What good trained police officer could confuse that? But then again ..
No problem getting real deal looking collectibles. Go figure?

You know, I should be offended you compare my government to the Nazi party, but I was thinking about things before and they really are doing a damn good job of cracking down on our freedoms.
Gun laws are extremely strict here, personally that doesn't bother me.
What bothers me is the censorship. It's pretty hard to get some damn good porn, but that aside, they do NOT have a adult rating for games, meaning the highest rating for computer games is MA15+ and anything that doesn't meet that level is simply banned.
And then there's the attempt by the Federal government to control the internet (I know, next to impossible but they're having a go anyway). The latest idea is to have ISP's monitor your downloads and if they find you downloading copyrighted material (eg, music) then your internet and telephone services will be cut. Yeah, sure, make the ISP's into cyber-police.
Anyhoo ... couple of links.

Sorry to hear that. It stinks when your personal freedoms get restricted. And it's scary when the government establishes watch groups like Big Brother.
