Leave it to Hollywood to figure out how to "transform" the 2 day weekend into a 6 day weekend. Ah hah. Get it? Eh ... ok, I'm really going back to working on Leader Class Megatron's gallery now.

This change won't increase its opening weekend take. Weekends only count over the--get this--weekend, with Monday holidays occassionally included.
ex: Pirates 3 opened early, but look at its totals: http://www.imdb.com/chart/. The early few days did not count toward the opening weekend.

Pirates only opened 4 hours earlier so that's 1 showing, but when the tally the totals they consider all days from when the movie opens until the following monday generally especially fourth of july becausee a lot of time people take extra days off so that it is in essence one big weekend. I just hope its an July 3rd opening in the daytime and not just a night showing because if it's showing during the day then I'll be damned if I am going to work that day. My ass will be firmly planted in that seat at the earliest possible time. And the ushers wll have to pry my fat ass out of that chair whith a crowbar

Chris™ wrote:but when the tally the totals they consider all days from when the movie opens until the following monday generally especially fourth of july becausee a lot of time people take extra days off so that it is in essence one big weekend.
But they do not always include it as the weekend gross, just an addition to the total gross since the majority of money will still come from the weekend, especially when no other movie opens that early on that weekend.
I know it's semantics, but to use an example from that holiday, Superman Returns last year, for both boxofficemojo and IMDb, had the Fourth of July total separate from its weekend tally:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... rman06.htm
http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/?date=200 ... ®ion=us
Then again, SR came out even earlier. It's hard to find an example where the movie came out that early in the week, on a holiday.
edit: Ooh, MIB2 works better: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... black2.htm
