Realy it would have been an awesome figure with a nice transformation but the just slapped the cabs of the alt on the arms.
It makes the figure very awkward, and the bright yellow
But hey, to each their own.
I'm just hoping Universe Blaster is a record breaking shelf warmer that will send a message to Hasblow.

Yes, and yes.
Not going to happen.
I specialize in collecting these kind of figures. These will not sit on the shelves due to low production numbers and rabid fan interest.
In fact, these will be the kind of figures who fetch a 100% mark-up in 1-2 years, easily.

I only bought him because I occasionally think I'll get round to doing a webcomic one day and Erector would be good for a few cheap gags. Imagine my surprise to find he was actually a good little toy, cursed with an embarrassing name.

Why yes I am sure of that my '1337 speak' 2k7 friend!
While you might thing Blaster is ugly, rewind to two years ago and everyone and their bloody mother was clamoring for this repaint. Having seen the toy in person, I assure you that it is quite nice.
As to the line that the toy is in...Universe is technically a catch all for various repaints with Classics toys crammed in for effect.
Lastly, repaints are always produced in lower numbers than standard or 'show' releases. Movie Inferno and Mudflap which are store exclusives have several reasons for low numbers, first and foremost...they're only in one store. A full production run would overflow a single store for a year or more. I don't know for sure, but the likely production numbers for these toys are likely in the 10-15 thousand range in keeping with similar releases.
BotCon exclusives: @ 1,100 units
Japanese store exclusives: @ 6-12,000 units
True Japanese Limited Editions: @ 500-1,200 units
Limited US releases: @ 10-12,000 units
Standard US release: 40,000 and up units (This number could be genuinely wrong though...)
Those are estimates based on actual BotCon numbers, actual Japanese release numbers, and the Energon Ultra Magnus, Treadbolt, and Rapid Run numbers for US exclusives. Any of it could be wrong, but it all seems a reasonable estimate.

I want Cybertron Soundwave too, and I don't think the Blaster re-paint looks all that bad. I'm a sucker for a nice toy I can "cash&carry" so I will definately pick that one up.
Colors-wise, I do wish that the Mudflap wasn't quite so yellow, but I love the character enough that I don't care, and he'll fill the Demolisher gap nicely.
Not sure about movie Inferno though. I'll probably pick him up.

I don't doubt your knowledge of production runs, even your estimates...
But I'm curious as to how many people truly were saying they wanted a repaint of Soundwave as Blaster. I mean, you're talkin' people here on the forums, right?
Even if that was 300 people, in the grand scheme...
And lately it seems most have a dislike for it.
Wouldn't you think that at that time all of the hype was because people wanted a Blaster, and a repaint was probably the most realistic option?
And damn, in alt mode he has such a strong primary color scheme, which to me shouts pajamas for a 2 yr. old bought by grandma.
Or as Bumblethumper said, "clown colors".

Wait Wait Wait...
Let's review:
Grey legs with black spot (speaker) on them?
-Check
Red torso with yellow storage compartment?
-Check...er, mostly. Depends what angle you look from...
Red Arms?
-Check
Red Head?
-Check
So the character/toy is mostly Red, Black, Grey, and some yellow...
That amounts to the most frightening clown colors ever.
The "Clown Colors" argument is garbage...
Face it, if the head were resculpted even slightly, this guy would be dead on.

I do remember the countless hoards crying out to the Heavens (HASBRO for TF Fans) proclaiming "Give us BLASTER!!!" "Make him in all his glory out of Cybertron Soundwave, it'd be perfect!!!!"
Then when Hasbro says, "Okay", you then hear. "Why???" "Why all the repaints?"
This is the EXACT reason certain figures became certain exclusives.

While you're literal analysis is right, there's still a strong primary color scheme.
That yellow chest, while one part, is bright enough and actually is as visually strong as all of the gray, and probably the black too. Not to mention it's location is a prime focal point.
Yeah, there are a lot of black and gray parts, but they don't stand out any more than the reds or yellow.
For whatever reason, you didn't mention the blue parts.
Even though those are areas on the weapons, if you ever have them on the figure,
you can't deny seeing those 3 primary colors.
"Dead on"? For a winged Blaster, maybe. Like you said, even the torso isn't all red.
I know, I know, it's a repaint.
But that's part of the point... This character deserved a new mold.

Sowndwave76 wrote:For whatever reason, you didn't mention the blue parts. Even though those are areas on the weapons, if you ever have them on the figure, you can't deny seeing those 3 primary colors.
Exactly,.. those are the weapons, not the figure. The fact that the weapons have blue in them is a minor issue not even worth debating. Hell, via the stickers, another minor issue, the original Blaster had blue on him.

It is a repaint. It IS a winged Blaster. Whatever name happens to fall on the box is really irrelevant. Classics, Universe, whatever. The point is that this was one of those figures people were clamoring for when it was initially released as Soundwave. Now, whether or not you were collecting at that point and remember this fact would probably benefit the discussion.
The main two issues regarding the toy remain true, whether you like the design or not; people wanted this repaint and it will sell well.

Again, I'll ask (in making a realistic estimate), how many people were clamoring for a Blaster repaint??
AND, if this was before the actual Classics were released, then
I don't care if this "clamoring" is the result of a survey of 500 people including a good percentage of "regular consumers/non-self-proclaimed fans".
Not to mention, most of what I've read from the get-go in favor of this figure is not highly enthusiastic.
Where's all the love for this guy now?
Surely if this was such a great decision, that huge population of those in favor would be rising up in some sort of praise or celebration.
CP, I'll just ask you straight-up.
Do you feel this is the best option for a "new" Blaster figure?
Even with his original alt mode being very outdated,
this is the limit of potential of a figure for this character?

And yet ...Blaster.
Why do I get the sneaking suspicion they're just going with the new Powerglide colours for now, so they can repaint it somewhere down the line and sell it twice to over-eager collectors.

I'm just gonna say, as I've said, in the future I want better. However, I know that we arent going to get it.
This Blaster is the start of any and every SoundWave figure getting a coat of paint and becoming Blaster.
As long as there are idiots out there who will prove CounterPunches basic observations correct, Hasbro will have no need to feel like they ever have to do better.
Unhappy as I am, I'm glad I'm not alone in seeing it.
Hell, they can package a dog turd in the same colors, call it Blaster, and note that this new automorph feature will cause it to turn white in 3 days if left in the sun...
Now folks with common sence will avoid that, but there's still to many people that will take whatever they're given with a thankful smile who'll post "the Fly minions that swarm it are a great effect"
I want this figure to fail, cause I want better in the future, but if experience has shown anything, it's that if it has the name and colors, enough easily pleased people will buy it, and Hasbro will get lazier on a bed of money thinking of who else can be renamed what as apose to what can they do next.
I know you won't, but take a stand, avoid this figure, and send them a message that you want and deserve better.

Stealth planes are as visible as any other to the naked eye, they are painted matte black because that paint has some radar obsorbing qualities and because their MO is night operations.

That's why I'm saying, don't buy it!
Granted Hasbro has people monitoring the net, but in the end, the dollar is our biggest voice. I also know the constant argument is that these items are produced for kids, but what friggin kid would even care about a figure from 25 years ago!?!
This is prof that the collector dollar is a factor in all this, and I'd like to see it push for better, as apose to a new trend in already tired repaints.

Well, really and unfortunately, the fact that kids wouldn't recognize the original Blaster is what may help this thing sell.
Kids don't know whether this is a good representation of that character or not.
Part of what I think goes against this figure is that I don't find the alt. mode as even remotely good.
Now, I don't have this mold, but really, unless it has some really cool features that aren't visible,
I get the idea of it from photos.
It just doesn't look very impressive to me.
NO way is this worth $20+ of my money.

I think the Black & Gold SoundBlaster version is the only one worth buying, this molds bot mode is stiff and unbalanced.
