More New Images of ROTF Sideswipe Toy, Including Robot Mode!

I was re-watching the Super Bowl ad in hi-def QuickTime today, and noticed something in the Sideswipe clip. If you look above his vehicle mode in about the last frame of his clip, you can see robot-mode Arcee and the head of what we now know is robot-mode Wheelie silhouetted against the flames.

So if all three Autobots are together in Japan, that might explain their odd robot modes, but it also suggests a chunk of TF:TM love in this film.

Topical upshot: if the first repaint of Sideswipe isn't Sunstreaker, I predict it'll be Rodimus. The writers probably thought long and hard about whether to use his name or Sideswipe's in this film.

with slight modifications he could look like drift his head is almost exaclty alike difte in a way reapint add some features take some off and theres drift.

im intersted to see how his legs move hes got 2 ball joints on 1 leg correction i counted 3 ball joints on his leg thigh 2 in front 1 in the back makes me wander how his possibilty is in robot mode.

The only thing I don't like about this figure is the giant exhaust tips.

Robot mode is lovely. I just wonder how the hip articulation is going to work.

Hm, interesting what they did with all those pegs/ball joints in the hip/upper thigh region. I do however like the leg design and the head. It's not so "out there" that it looks wierd. Not sure I like that, but the rest is awesome and I neeeeeeeeeeed it so bad *fusses like an anxious child on Christmas* Neeeed!!!

For a transforming anime robot its cool. But i refuse to call that Sideswipe. Ill have to see it in person to decide weather or not i call it a Transformer or not. I really hate the movie look.

other then the feet which i hope is mistransform and the question rather or not he can move his legs and knees anyway......this bot is on my most want list this year.....

Since this toy popping up already......i cant wait 4 a video review cause that double pegged hip/pelvis thingie it got going is really confusing me.

Hey Sledge, I think we may have to put the "Storming the Gates of Hasbro" idea conjured over in the "Drift" thread on the back burner. Out of 5 pages of posts I counted only 4 slightly to moderately negative postings about Sideswipe. I'm afraid if anything happens to disrupt the production of this figure, the other folks in this thread wont let me out alive!

Oh, and I nominate highbeam for a position on the exec. board next to Diem on account of his Prowl/Charger idea kicks major butt.

I know...we'll storm hasbro AFTER the first production run hit's the stores and we get our Sideswipe figures in hand. That's how we'll work it.

Which part of the clip is that? The only part that I can think of is the part that I thought was of Barricade, and at the very end of that clip at the top you can see what I thought were the 3 motorcycles in bot form jumping from the roof chasing after barricade.

Yeah Harvester is right. That scene has the Audi R8 (Possibly Barricade?) Transforming. This toy is the centennial corvette concept.

I really like his robot mode, not sure why, just looks really cool, however, a minor gripe would be the fact you can clearly see the ball joints in the hip area, I dunno, I guess I'm just weird like that. Again, a very minor gripe, especially if it gives him a lot of articulation.

Also, I'd prefer red.

One thing I don't understand is why they keep using silver a lot, it must be a cheaper color than any other color, or primary colors

I hope for 2 things...

1. This guy does not die in the movie. HE IS TOO COOL! Blades on forearms and roller blade legs = MEGA WIN!

2. They make a Voyager Class of time

I dont think those ball joints on his leg are attached. If you look behind the top ball jointed piece you can see another, thicker piece which I think is the actual joint.

The lower balls on the ball jointed pieces dont seem to be sat in anything that would keep the joint together, there is no socket.

Cool looking in both modes. How can they get it so right on one figure and so wrong on another (The Fallen)!?

Am I ever glad to see a movie figure that I absolutely love! This one for me is a no brainer. Gotta get it!

Even though the double ball jointed legs are a little odd, he still looks great.

That's a good thing. We're already getting our G1 redo's with the Universe series. We don't need ANOTHER rehashing of G1 characters. That horse died 20 years ago and we're still beating it.

I totally agree. I love the different twist these movie transformers have. We don't need remakes of something that was already prefect. then everyone would be complaining that the old G1 version was a lot better.

Love this this car, love the robot ,cant wait to give him a repaint!

Nice, I like it! Even if it doesn't get a repaint I will likely pick it up. They should make a blue one, it would make a very nice Tracks.

I think this guy may suffer from Lockdown syndrome with the hands that don't flip out completely. And I think the reason he has 2 ball joints is for his "mech-alive" gimmick. I think that blue piece on his knee moves when you move his jegs back and forth, which may hinder his posability.

Yeah, that could be right. The lower ball joints look like the could slide up and down the leg pushing or pulling the lower leg joint from within.

I've noticed the recurring themes as well, but I have also noticed the number of new members rising over this past year. So yes, as new members join the pack we old-timers are going to have to repeat things more often. That's o.k. especially when it comes to this figure 'cause I'll never get tired of saying how awsome this figure looks.

Sideswipe looks fantastic. I know that the name is not offical yet. He could be Tracks which I do know was a code name for one of the new Autobaots. This is simialar to The new Audi. That car's code name was Wheeljack, now the car maybe Barricade's new ALT. mode.

Not what I expected from Sideswipe, but I like those new blades on his arms!

He looks cool, hopefully he'll be in a lot of the movie. He's one of the first cool-looking movie desaigns I've seen. Besides the ones from last movie of course.

Still stessing how ugly the car is, but....
This toy is great. Looks nice, good stature and decent detail.

This is one of the few Movie bots I can say that about, and I think only the second one that's actually appeared in one of the films (the other being Voyager Optimus Prime). must admit... its looking better than the previous images, and its not a wheeled foot bot, hes actually got feet, the wheels just focus as the middle of the foot (though if he does end up skating like bonecrusher in the first film i'll be surprised) - which is osmething i dont get that everyone is going quackers over as bonecrusher had the whole, wheels for feet in the first movie on that infamous highway chase - that poor bus....

anyways...

repaints ahoy? or will it be kitbashers runnin wild? If i do get my paws on this one, i'll hafta take some needle files and some respray to him.. good god those bloody mould lines can spoil a figure!

I've had this off and on for a couple of months now. Had some antibiotics that almost but not quite sorted it out. Back down the doctors on Friday. Sinutab, painkillers and throat lozenges in the meantime.

You know what would be really cool? If we got a Sunstreaker repaint complete with the roof-mounted engine intake in car mode.

Oh, and a flying mode for the Tracks repaint.

*sigh* I can dream. But I can see me buying all the repaints of this mold and the biplane.

Yes I did, based entirely on an assumption, which we all know is from the root word "assume" when, broken down = "ass" out of "u" and "me" although in this case, if my assumption is wrong then the only "ass" here is "me", which "u" are most welcome to call me out on, and it wont be the first foolish thing I've done today. As far as it being the last... well, my day isn't over yet! Not by a long shot!

Feel free to throw me a shoe-horn any time 'cause I wear a size 10 1/2 shoe and sometimes sticking my foot in my mouth can be a challenge, although I'm off to a damn good start!

Back on topic though, if they do make a Sunny repaint of 'Vette!Sideswipe, I really hope they can at least make a new head mold like they did with Universe.

The only downside with this characetr is going to involve my patience level and the amount of detail these new movie figures have. I know Sideswipe is going to get the "Red" treatment right off the bat, and the Tracks repaint is at the bottom of my priority list. However, dsimantling and masking a 2nd Sideswipe for painting to get my own Sunstreaker is going to be far more of a pain than masking the old G1 figures. It'll be worth it since all this talk of the repaints has got me insanely curious as to how it'll look, but it will still be a pain.

has anyone seen anything in the way of a box for this toy? Because I'll be honest, I have this hunch that "Sideswipe" might be another "Devastator" type fake name, a la TF1. So until I see and in-box version that says "Sideswipe" I will still have doubt.

I may be very wrong here, but with every bit that we've seen of the pictures from filming and the comic art a while back, he always seems to be in the front or right next to Optimus. That would led me, personally, to assume that he's a fairly important character.

I guess this is just a long-winded way of asking if anyone else has considered that he may , in fact, not be Sideswipe at all...

Anyone considered Prowl? or even Hot Rod?

Like I said, just a thought, and if I've missed any solid proof other than hear-say, I'd be glad to see it.

I know that I haven't seen any box art and I'm fairly sure that most of the rest of the folks were riding the same, blissful cloud of self-delsuion that I was in hopes that nobody would bring up this point.
You know, scared of putting a jinx on the whole thing.
There's a science/superstition to this whole new release thing...if we don't bring it up, then maybe it won't be an issue. We'll have a Mod. come back and delete these last few posts before Hasbros spies catch wind of it and it should be o.k. But if this goes horribly wrong and the name get's axed, I'd start lacing up your running shoes.

IF this is in fact Sideswipe, then they are taking away the 2 biggest things that make him recognizable...he's not a Lambo, and he's not red. At least Prime was still Red and Blue, and BB was still yellow.

I've been a fan of the Bayformers up to this point, in and of themselves, because I understand that it's a different Transformers Universe...BUT if the Vette turns out to be Sideswipe, it would be my first disappointment...The toy itself however is pretty bad ass though.

Bad enough that they keep getting made into American "sports" cars instead of glorious Lamborghinis, but to be called not important... well, it's a good thing no one's said that about Sunstreaker yet. Besides, this film is clearly setting up for the third Movie, Transformers: Sunstreaker and Sideswipe Kick Everyone's Aft.

I think this might be the best looking movie toy I have seen. I do like the movie's take on Soundwave but I think this Sideswipe is down right nifty!
