Seibertronian board moderator Cobotron has received the latest offering in the Takara Tomy Transformers Unite Warriors line, the mishmash of continuities and concepts UW06 Grand Galvatron! Uniting a Wandering Roller, an Armada Thrust, a Ghost Starscream, a Prime Breakdown under the vision of Cyclonus, Grand Galvatron sports new head sculpts and colour schemes. Check out a brief pictorial review below.

Cobotron wrote:EVERYONE! This set is AMAZING! So much fun and ridiculousness. The color layouts, and the application of the paint is fantastic. Starscream has translucent paint on his translucent parts. I don't know that I have ever seen that before.
The stand outs for me are Cyclonus, Roller, and Breakdown. But all of the figures are creepy and cool in their own way. The new head sculpts are great.

Way to pull some weirdness out of your imaginations Takara. This set is going to fuel mine for a good long while.

Hey! Thanks for newsing it up guys!
I stayed up way to late playing with these guys. I-)

@ Wolfman Jake and Seibertron, Cyclonus is a really great shade of blue, and to me, doesn't look all that much like the color on the cartoon model. He does have some lovely metallic lavender high lights though. Not sure what they were going for with the torso mode, but I know I like it.

Also Thrust's colors are spot on with the Armada toy.

I think they were going for the G1 Galvatron toy, though it really needed the four squares on his abdomen to be red.

Your comment about Thrust reminds me that I forgot to grab Armada Thrust from the storage unit for comparison pics. Urgh. Back I go!

The original release, right? Not the lavender re-release. the colors remind me of Energon Megatron. Who always looked like Galvatron to me anyway.

Because in the original Japanese version, Armada (or Micron Legend) Megatron never changed his name. He was always Megatron, just a powered up Megatron. In Energon, he came back from the get go as Galvatron, and again, never changed his name when he powered up. That's why Energon Megatron homages Galvatron so.

I've been trying to tell myself I don't need this set, but so far I'm losing that argument... The in hand pics really sell it. My favorite is easily Thrust, and as I've said before I was never an Armada guy. Don't know anything about that era since that period was my "too cool for cartoons and toys" phase haha. The colors and the head sculpt are just that good.

Everyone's talking about how they want the other seekers made out of Ghost Starscream, but it'd also totally be equally cool if we got the G1 Coneheads out of Thrust. They look so great.

About the G1 Galvatron toy colors for the combiner torso, this combiner was originally supposed to be made into Galvatron II, but it was later decided to make it be Cartoon Galvatron proper after the colors had already been finalized.

But, IMHO, the toy colors do work rather well for a Galvatron that's come back from the dead as his lightly-colored deco happens to be reminiscent of that of Car Robots Devil Gigatron (RiD 2001 Galvatron), whose lightly-colored deco was meant to be associated with death.

I am down for any and all of that. One thing that has me a bit bamboozled, but not a BIG deal, is it seems like the Air Raid tooling would have made for a better "classic" Seeker than Skydive. Aside from the obvious alt mode, something about the torso shape, and it has ports on the arms for weapons.
But, yeah, bring more CW Seekers. I'm game!

@ Will - Um yeah, OK, that would be it! Thanks!

Who is on Sky Reign's left leg? It's the Wheeljack version of the Breakdown mold, but not colored like any released or planned character that I'm aware of.

I haven't spent enough time yet really digging in, but right off the bat, Starscream's elbows are pretty loosy goosy. Like almost can't hold up his gun. The two halves of the truck bed that form the fore arm for Breakdown's arm mode have a little trouble staying pegged together, but my Off Road is like that too.
Nothing glaring though. The other 3 figures seem right as rain. I'll pay a little more attention when I play with him tonight. ;)^

Hmm, yeah sounds about right. I have similar issues with some of their mold mates. Was hoping to hear they were perfect, but I can't blame the messenger. Appreciate it!

While we wait for the upcoming Seibertron Gallery of the Unite Warriors Grand Galvatron set (soon... soon), we bring you this video review from fellow Seibertronian Chuckdawg1999. Many fans are unsure if this exclusive set is worth the premium, let us know if this helps!

chuckdawg1999 wrote:Once again Takara finds a way to take a couple of repaints and create something absolutely briliant. Grand Galvatron combines the best of Japanese Transformers history while giving the fans some great figures. Obviously the standouts will be Starscream and Thrust, both featuring new heads that will get fans salivating at the possibilities. At the end of the day these are repaints, so we know what we're getting in terms of transformation, and durability. Now to figure out what to do with my Combiner Wars Cyclonus.

The latest tweets from TF Yuki feature Grand Galvatron as well. Especially the fact that this combiner can use upcoming Legends Galvatron's cannon. Enjoy!

While I love Ghost Starscream and Curse Armada Thrust, they totally mixed up the robot modes. The mold used for Thrust would have been a much better choice for Starscream's robot and jet modes. I can't figure out why they did that unless they feel the "wings" in robot mode are more important than the jet mode, the engine inlets (which would be behind his shoulders but still visible in robot mode, and the overall look of the chest.

The head sculpts for both are fantastic. The very manga/anime looking Starscream head, and the new take on Armada Thrust is great (though I would have liked to see the "camo" paint that the original Armada Thrust had). I'd love to see all 6 of the Seekers done as Combiners but am happy for now with what we've got.

Great set, just feel like they mixed up the robot mode bodies for Armada Thrust and Ghost Starscream.

Ha! I said this a couple posts back. Seems to be a very odd decision on Takara's part. But it really has no effect on my immense enjoyment of the set in any way.

Seibs, I have a ton of translucent toys, (mostly Microman) but not a lot of TFs. Have you ever seen this translucent paint they used on Starscream, on other TFs before?

I dunno whose decision it was, but if you look under airraid, there's a notch cut out for a conehead to fit, so this was built into the mold from the very start, it was likely chosen because the silhouette of the airraids cockpit piece looks more like thrusts armada jet mode than the angled skydive does and vice-versa for the raptor; not saying it's perfect, but it's something.

From what I've heard, the heads are tied to specific molds so they very likely couldn't be swapped around.

That said, I agree in wishing that the Starscream head had been pretooled to the Air Raid mold and the Conehead head pretooled to the Skydive mold, as not only would doing so have given Starscream and Thrust more accurate altmodes but the rectangles on the Air Raid mold's chest would have worked well as Starscream's pectorals.

However, I have seen one decent argument for the way they were done as they are. The Skydive mold's torso is built more like the tradition Seeker torso, complete with shoulder notches that emulate Starscream's shoulder intakes, while the wide and boxy build of the Air Raid mold's torso is more evocative of Armada Thrust's own wide and boxy torso, which also enabled one of his boxy pecs to be colored red like on both the original Armada Thrust toy and cartoon model.

Working on the robot mode galleries for Armada Thrust and Ghost Starscream currently. While working on Starscream's, one of the wings popped off very easily which gave me an idea. So I popped off the other wing, flipped them around, and now you end up with wings that are very evocative of G1 Starscream in robot mode. I can't help but think this was the reasoning at some point in the development process. Pics will be in the gallery once it is completed some time tomorrow.

Oh man, the wings being flipped around like that would have made the Skydive mold even more perfect for Thrust since his original toy and cartoon model had his wings flipped around in robot mode as well. Such a missing opportunity for Hasbro having pretooled the heads to opposite molds.

If they had released Roller and Breakdown by themselves, I would so have got them. Roller for the Lost Light (yeah yeah ya don't need to tell me he was never on board, but he was in the comic) and Breakdown for a proper Prime version of him. Ghost Scream is really cool and may have been a buy, but I don't really have any attraction to Thrust and I love my Cyclonus :MAXIMAL:

Speaking of missed opportunities, anyone think Hasbro is gonna milk these molds ('seeker' and 'conehead') at all? Hasbro not using them is so counter to their whole business strategy right now - especially, since they're there already :BANG_HEAD:

It's completely the wrong color! Cyclonus should not be blue. I'll stick with my Combiner Wars Cyclonus (though I wish he was closer to G1 Cyclonus or at least a bluer purple instead of a reddish purple). I really like Unite Warriors Cyclonus, he's just flat out the wrong color though. It'd be amazing if it had been purple like he should be.

Cyclonus's blue seems to be from his first appearance in the movie:

And from other points in the cartoon when he was blue, but not as bright and vibrant a blue as hr was in the above movie scene:

The rest of the time, he was inconsistently colored varying shades of purple, including the light lavender that Ryan loathes so much.

Is it just me, or is the debate over Cyclonus and Galvatron's colour scheme becoming the new FIRRIB?

for the record frenzy is blue

Cyclonus is just way ahead of his time and sports that rad flip flop periwinkle.

Yeah, I think its how the wings look in robot mode. However, its possibly about the head on the mold which I have a tough time understanding since I thoght these heads were on seperate molds anyway. Or else we would have a ton of these secondary heads taking space in a Hasbro warehouse out there.

He was never on the lost light .............. :-P

Sabrblade wrote:Oh man, the wings being flipped around like that would have made the Skydive mold even more perfect for Thrust since his original toy and cartoon model had his wings flipped around in robot mode as well. Such a missing opportunity for Hasbro having pretooled the heads to opposite molds.

Speaking of missed opportunities, anyone think Hasbro is gonna milk these molds ('seeker' and 'conehead') at all? Hasbro not using them is so counter to their whole business strategy right now - especially, since they're there already :BANG_HEAD:

Just curious, but if they were to make one more seeker, would this mold count a s a seeker mold :-?

Anyone else feel that this is the best Classics Cyclonus now?

It's completely the wrong color! Cyclonus should not be blue. I'll stick with my Combiner Wars Cyclonus (though I wish he was closer to G1 Cyclonus or at least a bluer purple instead of a reddish purple). I really like Unite Warriors Cyclonus, he's just flat out the wrong color though. It'd be amazing if it had been purple like he should be.

I think Counterpunch was referring to him over Universe Cyclonus. While the scale for CW Cyclonus is a good size and has a great alt mode seen from the top, I much preffer the transformation for Universe cyclonus and his alt mode when seen in a 360 view. I dislike having the entire bot under a flat ship.
