Toy Hobby Market has updated Gentei Dark Skyfire's product page with a handful of new images. While these pictures are of the small variety, it shows off Dark Skyfire in different lighting. It looks like the figure is more black than initially supposed. There also might be some chrome work on the figure. Check it out below.

Can you guys tell me what "henkei" means and what "gentei" means?and the difference between the two. I'm hoping it isn't henkei : classics as gentei : universe, but I don't have a clue either way:/

Just a reminder to those who are still considering purchasing this, Robot Kingdom probably has the best price @ about $35. Their shipping is quite a bit more, but I ordered two and it came out to $90 shipped, which is about what one would have cost from most of the other retailers.

How's the adve... top 25 countdown coming? I hope youre not planning to name Countdown #1, I watched a piece of my soul die during an E! countdown of guilty pleasures that ended with countdowns as the #1 guilty pleasures. It was a top 100, 5 installments of 20 in 5 days! Shame on me for tuning in.

"Henkei" means "Transform" and "Gentei" means "Exclusive".

"Henkei! Henkei! Transformers" quite literally translates as "Transform! Transform! Transformers" and refers to the Japanese releases of the Classics and Universe 2008 figures. "Gentei! Gentei! Transformers" means "Exclusive! Exclusive! Transformers" and refers to those toys that are limited in release while also being a name pun on "Henkei! Henkei!".

The only "Gentei! Gentei!" figures there are are:

Stuntron Wildrider (redeco of Classics Rodimus)
Dirge (retool of Classics Ramjet)
Thrust (retool of Classics Ramjet)
Strafe w/ Rocketbot (redeco of Universe Cyclonus)

I don't get it. Is it suppose to be a Shattered Glass figure? If not, seems to me they're just slapping a Classics mold with Skywarp's paintjob, a little chrome, all just to sell as "an exclusive". But hey, more power to them. Make that money. Gawd knows whatever the figure, whatever the paintjob, there's folks somewhere in the fanbase that will buy it.

ED Ligier is DEFINITELY a Gentei figure. The others I'm not 100% about. I can't find clear enough pictures online.

Looks really awesome! I wish the pictures were bigger. I'm considering getting this one, but sadly I'm running out of shelf space and money.

The Gentei line has a similar logo to Henkei but "Henkei"'s (変型！ヘンケイ！) replaced with "Gentei" (限定！ゲンテイ！). As I can read Japanese, let me help you guys out:

Henkei (but still exclusive)
Thundercracker
Skywarp
Convoy Clear Version

Gentei
Ligier, Electro Disruptor Version.
Strafe with Rocketbot
Starscream Ghost Version
Dirge
Thrust
Stuntron Wildrider

By the way, technically speaking the correct translation should be "Transform! Henkei! Transformers". That's because the second "Henkei" is written in katakana, the script used for foreign words like English. As such, in Japanese it's a meaningless proper noun akin to a mere name.

Kinda cool but Im so tired of seeing autobots get a black and purple paint job to become decepticons. Who invented the whole "Nemesis Prime" concept anyway ??? I think its a silly way to create repaints...

In actuality, the black and purple paint scheme has only been on an Autobot once before, and that's Shattered Glass Optimus Prime, who technically is never a Decepticon.

If you're referring to a paint scheme that we've seen far too long than that's black and teal, not black and purple.

As for who started the evil redecos, I believe the first one was Black Lio Convoy, but it was Car Robots Black Convoy/RiD Scourge who popularized the trend.

...and I feel this is 'the mold' for me... y'know, the one which you collect all iterations of because you dig it so muchy. Still, $95 isn't so bad... hanging around the shelves here are $100 Ghost Starscream, $100 Strafe and $140 for the pair of Dirge/Thrust. Looks like it may figure out to just under $80. :-?

Yeah, shipping is a killer. My shipping cost would be around 90% of the fig's price. (:|

Not to mention our crooked customs bureau would probably hold it hostage if not outright steal it.

I think Skyfire looks much cooler in black than he did in grey. A combination the Nemesis Prime story line the Botcon genius that was the Shattered Glass set is why there are so many dark repaints of autobots (although Cyclonus is the only decepticon I can think of that they've done it for).

I wouldn't be surprised if they released a Trypticon like Grimlock just like the set as we've already had Nemisis Prime and Hot Rod/Wildrider. For some wierd reason the black Prime and all these shadow/dark figures like Shadow Commander, Hot Rod, Grimlock, Jetfire makes me think a Transformers version of Hulk Hogan and the nWo. Strange I know.

I have no idea how Robot Kingdom are able to sell Skyfire for so cheap because that's almost $10 cheaper than the price on ToyHobbyMarket and as it's been pointed out it's much cheaper than BBTS. I ordered 5 (1 for me and 4 to sell as part of a set with Henkei Jetfire of whom I also bought 5 (1 for me again) probably on Ebay.
