not enough decepticons but that was always a prob even in g1 (always thought the decepticons' air superiority and strength made up for the lack of numbers)

Transformation looks amazing! The stop-motion makes it seem almost effortless.
And the way that the wheels morph, very reminiscent of hand-drawn animation where parts could change size and colour during transformation.
Evasion-mode Optimus Prime might have some company in the Kobayashi Hall of Fame. :)
I came across these brilliant stop-motion gifs by OptimusTimelord. They were tailored after scenes from MTMT and look like they were taken straight out of the cartoon! [1] [2] [3] [4]frogbat wrote:time for a stop motion mp series :D

Wasn't planning on getting Ultra Magnus, but now... Damnit Takara, now I want him!
If I also get Bluestreak I'll have that whole cast :s
Wallet, problems.

I can afford either, but I also have alot of other things I want to get post x-mas so I don't wanna buy both, and while MP-10 hasn't "flown" with the reissue, MP-10 is one of the few MPs to actually BE hard to find for around the same price... what are the odds UM will sell out in 3 months?

major retailers like BBTS or TFsource, will probably sell out in a few months. everyone else a little while after. worst case is you might have to ebay him for a slight markup. but thats worst case. if it were me, id go for prime first.durroth wrote:I can afford either, but I also have alot of other things I want to get post x-mas so I don't wanna buy both, and while MP-10 hasn't "flown" with the reissue, MP-10 is one of the few MPs to actually BE hard to find for around the same price... what are the odds UM will sell out in 3 months?shajaki wrote:tough choice... how long before you can afford the second choice? That ad is awesome....
Transformers came a bit late to where I am so I ended up skipping the original leaders and had the "city commanders" instead.
Re getting mp-10 or not... I was in the same boat. I already had MP1 and saw mp10 as pointless. I even went off MP collecting for a bit. The new releases such as smokescreen and wheeljack made me start collecting them again. Got mp10 because of the scale and also cos the only prime i ever had with a trailer was powermaster prime. But I must admit that he is a good if expensive purchase. Also, wanted to get him before magnus cos I knew I wouldn't have been able to afford them back to back.
You might be lucky and find him available in sales etc. Toys r us uk have the platinum edition listed for £80 for example

Sabrblade wrote:He's shorter than MP-2?!
I think it's partially that MP-2 has a giant head compared to the newer scale MPs and the balljoint is set higher than UM's weird MP neck. (seriously don't get why they chose the neck they've gone with on the newer MPs over a balljoint) He's only *barely* shorter at the top of the headcrest and if you include the antennae he's definitely the same size or slightly taller. Their chests are more or less even too and the new Umags definitely looks more MASSIVE than his "predecessor."

It's because of scale issues like this that I view MP-9 as Rodimus Prime and not HotRod. His car made is just too big to be HotRod.
I would however like to see Takara release a scaled down version of HotRod that stands about the same height as the average MP car.

Anyone else notice that Takara omitted Red Alert from the the back of Magnus' booklet as well as the stop-motion video?
I hope it means they're planning to redo him closer to the cartoon model. In my opinion he wasn't retooled enough from Sideswipe, as Smokescreen was from Prowl. My guess is that back then Takara was uncertain about this line so the budget for Red was lower.

What more could they do for Alert? MP Lambor already looked more like Red Alert's character model than it resembled Sideswipe's.Cyberpath wrote:Anyone else notice that Takara omitted Red Alert from the the back of Magnus' booklet as well as the stop-motion video?

He is very well thought out, there are a few surprising elements to him. Such as the way the arms transform, I didn't expect there to be a hinge right at the top of the arm. I like the fact that the cab can be disconnected.
I hope he gets a Hasbro release so I can get a 2nd.

Big wheels as shoulders, hanging doors, white or silver thighs, and shorter canon & gun.
He's a cool figure as is, but I'd be down for a retool.

Plus I have like six of those lying around now, so I don't really need another one.
Mine should arrive in two weeks, I'm starting to think, I should have chosen a faster shipping method instead of being so cheap XD

im sure you dont have six of that matrix. only the MP10 matrix would fit. even i only have 5 (MP10, MP10B, YOTH, and the two satellite ones) and im kinda crazy. though i will have 6 when my MP10 eva shows up!Dead Metal wrote:Plus I have like six of those lying around now, so I don't really need another one.Sabrblade wrote:To be fair, he wasn't worthy of it anyway.Diem wrote:The fact that he doesn't come with the Matrix that he's compatible with is a big of a cheap move too.

UM being matrix-less honestly kinda bums me out. cause had a matrix been in there, it can be seen through the windows no? i gotta find one on ebay now. an empty matrix chamber is something i simply can not have

Yes it does. It fits into his chest and into some special hands so he can hold it aloft!

I have
2 MP01 Matrixes
1 MP10
The two that came with TRU MP Rodimus
And I believe I have one of those separate diecast ones.
And then there is the tiny one that came with THS02 Optimus, oh and Cybertron Leader Optimus, I believe that event fits with MPs if I remember correctly.
