Reprolabels wont touch anything named marlboor with a ten foot pole. It's like a dirty word for them.

MR Optimus Prime wrote:But WHY put any Decepticon logos on this?
It's a reference to the lampooned cigarette sponsor on the original.
Smoking is bad, hence decepticon.
Not to mention, the name exhaust evokes the idea of choking dark smoke.

My guess is the differing faction was enough to make him get his own number instead of being a mere special version of MP-20.

Maybe this cigarette-themed MP means Takara won't be averse to giving us an MP Mirage? He's covered in cigarette company logos too.
Posted by Vin Ghostal on September 2nd, 2014 @ 7:36am CDT
I don't begrudge squeezing a second MP toy out of the mold. In their position, I would do the same. However, Exhaust has officially displaced Tigertrack in last place on my Masterpiece priority list. Yikes.

Bluestreak and Smokescreen (and Red Alert) are characters from the cartoon though. This Evil Wheeljack is like Tigertrack and Sunstorm.
Don't get me wrong, I don't care about the numbering, and I'm all for esoteric repaints if it means that we get new molds for the "real" characters.
It's just that Takara was consistent and strict with the new incarnation of the MP line, I hope this piece of news isn't a sign that they ran out of steam.

Hence why I'm guessing that the new faction is what did it. Though Tigertrack and Sunstorm are their own characters, their having the same allegiances as Lambor and Starscream could have the less informed thinking that they're just "special" versions of Lambor and Starscream, respectively, like how Lambor G-2 Ver. is a special version of Lambor and how Silverstreak is a special version of Streak.Cyberpath wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Yet, Streak and Smokescreen did.Cyberpath wrote:Hm, why is this getting a new number? With Exhaust not only being his own character but one of the opposite faction as Wheeljack, they might have wanted to further differentiate him from Wheeljack than they did for Tigertrack and Sunstorm with Lambor and Starscream, and could have felt that giving him his own ID number instead of a modified version of Wheeljack's would be a good way to spell out his individuality.

What about MP10b Nemesis Prime? He's also his own character and a Decepticon, but still sold as a special version of Prime.
This looks pretty good, but yeah, one of the 3rd party sticker companies is going to make a killing.
Posted by Sabrblade on September 2nd, 2014 @ 8:04am CDT
True, that is a good point. But there might be some wiggle room with him since he's "MP-10B Black Convoy", a black version of Convoy despite having his own identity. So one could technically sorta kinda still see him as a version of Convoy even though he's an evil clone.Dead Metal wrote:What about MP10b Nemesis Prime? After all, some folks still view Transmetal 2 Dinobot as a version of the Maximal Dinobot (even before what happened with him in the last episode) despite the different faction and being a clone and such.
*shrugs* Takara only knows.
EDIT: It could also be that he's also retool on top of being a different character and of a different faction.

i wonder what MP-25 will be like .. only Takara Knows ( i am Guessing)
though i wait for a masterpiece toy that ISN'T a G1 character
i wonder what MP-10C could be. for that the only real option for that figure would possibly be SG Prime though i could be wrong but i don't think Japan has seen of what the SG line is though it is Merely redecos and repurposing

Well, they did make those Movie Masterpieces out of the Leader Starscream and Battle Ops Bumblebee molds.Autobot tap out wrote:though i wait for a masterpiece toy that ISN'T a G1 character
And those Brave Series Masterpieces.

Bingo.
Admittedly, it's grey territory. Sure, Sunstorm is a straight redeco, but Soundwave comes with different accessories, and Tigertrack & G2 Sideswipe have different accessories AND different faces.
I've been assuming for some time that the threshold for a new number is an entirely new headsculpt, which Exhaust definitely has... and I think it's awesome!

Man I wish I owned him so that I could photograph him for Seibertron.com! Just think of how awesome the gallery would be with some smoke in it, though I could do something fun with Exhaust's gallery as well.
As for the numbering scheme, it appears Takara is just doing whatever they want with the numbering. Considering that they skipped numbers in the G1 numbering scheme, I think the only thing that is fairly consistent with their numbering is that it doesn't always make sense. At first I was going to suggest that the numbering was retail versus exclusives, but I think MP-10B was a regular retail figure which blows my theory.

This was just pointed out to me, and it's so simple I can't believe we didn't think of it:
All exclusives and limited runs get the same number.
Mass releases who are new characters get new numbers.
Mass releases who are different versions of the same character (or clones in Black Convoy's case) also get the same number.
So, Exhaust would fall into the second category, being a new guy and a mass release.

Someone will make a sticker for this. There are repro Diaclone "Exhaust" stickers that are regularly sold on eBay so I imagine someone will capitalize on this market.

what i meant by MP 10c is that once every couple of years we get a redeco of Masterpiece Optimus
Prime out of the Mold We Have : Dead Optimus (sleep mode), Nemesis Prime, that purple and green One that i don't remember the name of , Camo Prime , and the obvious Ultra Magnus ( that however is MP-22) and i was thinking what new character are they going to Use with that mold. the options i thought of where Option A: the Music label figures OR option B: Shattered Glass Optimus Prime which i went Option B. Not trying to sound like an Imbecile but now do you see where i am going? and Thanks for asking anyway SabrBlade. and i didn't think of the Movie Ones sorry about that (cringes)

I've got Diaclone and Shining Ultra Magnus that I'm waiting for, along with blue "Bluestreak", G2 Grimlock, G2 Starscream, and the onslaught of Bumblebee variants and repaints such as Bug Bite, Goldbug, and many others!
And Thrust, Ramjet, and Dirge would be really nice as well, but I could use a break from the Seekers for a little bit too.

Don't forget MP10B Black Convoy. And SoundBlaster included Ratbat, a new figure, so we can't simply say it's a retooling.
I suspect the numbering is just a new marketing strategy. Personally, I like consistency. (I just hope they don't change the package style). I think I will pass on him, but I am glad that so many people are excited and hope that equates to more sales and more MP figures.
I don't think the numbering is a sign that the line is running out of steam. I think it's the opposite. I am basing my view on the recent MP Book that was released and the all the excitement that the MP designers are sharing with fans through articles, tweets, and pictures.
Ryan, I see your point regarding the exclusive. This is the first Transformers release of this character. And in the past, characters like Hauler, Cobolt Sentry figures, and Sunstorm have started out as exclusives. I am glad they are not going that way with the MP line. These figures are pretty penny already, no need to add a premium to make it an exclusive and harder to get.
Posted by Burn on September 2nd, 2014 @ 4:53pm CDT
TT should have just established a secondary line for MP Diaclones instead of lumping them all into one.
(Guessing the next one will be Powered Convoy)
