Following yesterday's announcement of Takara's Legends Jetfire & Sky-Byte we have Larger images provided to us by the Agabyss Twitter page. Looks like this confirms our guesses of Jetfire loseing all the red chrome in favor of a flat red color, and Sky-Byte having extra paint applications. We've mirrored the images below.

Considering that Jetfire - looks real nice with the black details on the guns.

im hoping that too. you gotta figure, if theres a chance they can repaint a toy into anything else that theyll do it. it all equals money to them.

Bravo Takara!!!

So interesting that Hasbro goes shiny chrome and Takara goes old school. I like this version much better and have pre-ordered 2 from TFSource.com. The figures are also listed on BBTS.com and are a dollar cheaper than TFSource. I went for the free shipping when ordering two as it was $151.90 through Source.

I figure this is a solid investment and would rather put my money into a well thought out old school homage than what Hasbro will be giving us. December cannot come soon enough for this great representation!!

Now to Amazon to cancel my Hasbro edition pre-order. Reprolabels could jazz up the Hasbro version but cannot cover up that stupid shiny chrome. :BOT:

Looks way better than the Hasbro chrome version. But I still cant seem to pull the trigger on this mold. I hate that fake cockpit and stupid out of scale Macross jet mode. Im waiting on that Mech Form Sky Guardian.

Still some great upcoming figures for this year. Why is it that Takara has the better paint schemes then the Hasbro releases? Maybe of course it's because either Hasbro is lazy at times, or they just have some bizarre choices. Still, the US versions of Jetfire and Sky-Byte look decent With a few exceptions, I'm really liking the Generations line this year.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It really depends on the particular line & figure.

Why is the Takara version much more expansive than Hasbro's?

I actually prefer the Hasbro version this time, it's slightly more cartoon-accurate.

It's basic economics really. It's actually on par with current Japanese prices for Leader Class, and in fact between US and EU prices (EU being 70 Euros)

If the stock pics are accurate and not open to further changes it looks like it will follow the exact color apps found in the box art.

See the stripes patterns on both chest panels (R and L)? The apps on his front shins. His sigils now have white borders and the armor have the black paint apps. And it looks like no chrome.

Being Japan bound, maybe this changes are Tomy's justification of a "slightly" higher SRP. He also might have a different colored plastic like the Japanese Drift had a different white from the Hasbro. I said "might" though.........

I don't know what shade it will be, but I'd bet that the Takara version will use at least slightly different color plastics. They almost always do, sometimes subtly different and other times dramatically so, but it's almost always at least somewhat different.

Their Gelshark is shinier than Sky-Byte, and their Jetfire has more paint apps than Hasbro's. So, for Jetfire, it's just a non-shiny bling. :P

I am puzzled as to how each of these Legends toys look to be the same size. Leo Prime and Optimus Primal use the same original molds and original ultra sizes right? So then which mold is that classic optimus from? It looks like the Deluxe Classics Prime but he was much smaller. And the movie optimus looks like the one step optimus but once again that size make me scratch my head as to what toy this is and if it was actually ever released before. Can anyone help?

Generation One Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal, and Lio Convoy are from the Robotmasters line over in Japan back in 2004-ish, and were all scaled to one another. They're roughly Deluxe-sized. The Optimus Primal and Lio Convoy you see in those images are NOT the Ultra-ish figures originally featured in their respective lines, but scaled down versions. ;)

Thanks! So is this the same toy as the one from this piece of news:

No, that's the original BW Optimus Primal figure (well, the 10th anniversary retool). The main difference is in the hands.

Do we even know for sure that the Legend Commander Collection is even part of the Legends toyline?

After all, it's "Legend Commander Collection" rather than "LegendS Commander Collection".

I'm debating what will be the least "problematic" Optimus Primal to go in my Classics Beast Wars collection. The upcoming reissue of the original Ultra figure, which is bigger than voyager Rhinox, or this reissue of the Robotmasters figure, which is quite a bit smaller than Voyager Rhinox. I'm leaning towards a large figure, which would at least scale Primal properly with Cheetor, but then he'd be too big for Dinobot. Ugh...such a headache.

I just use my Telemocha Series figure (which uses the RobotMasters mold) and have Cheetor (who is also the Telemocha Series figure, using the original BW mold, since the Universe Cheetor mold is garbage) in an action pose with his legs bent to make him squat shorter than Primal.

Though, I also use the original Rattrap mold since the Generations mold, while nice, is too big for even Rhinox and Dinobot, only scaling well with the original BW Ultra Optimus Primal mold.

Not bad, but I don't want to have to use the original BW toys to fill in my gaps. I'm building a "Classics" collection of Beast Wars figures. I think a nice voyager scale Optimus Primal would fix it all for me. Yeah, Generations Rattrap would still be too big, but he'd still at least be the smallest member of the group. Unfortunately, I don't think a new Optimus Primal is coming any time soon. Takara is reissuing the original ultra class figure (yet again) and Hasbro is switching gears to the "Combiner Wars" next year.

Yeah, I know the Ultra toy coming up from Takara is technically the original toy from Beast Wars, but it's been retooled and redecoed compared to the original release. That gives it a pass in my mind. I do have that deluxe Optimus Primal from the Beast Wars Anniversary line as well. He's the "Classics" primal on my shelf right now, and he's frankly not too bad in bot mode. Gorilla mode is a different matter, but I just kind of pretend he's transmetal. The biggest let down is the size. I wish some of that surf board mass could have gone into the figure itself instead.

But that tooling isn't new. It was already given that tooling back in 2007 for the Takara's Beast Wars Reborn release (which was released later that year for Hasbro's BW 10th Anniversary line).

off topic: hey sarblade... doncha think telemocha cheetor is incredibly underated? ive always been a fan of the mold, but i was blown away with how nice the paint apps were.

and i was going to say, as far as scale goes i thought beast wars was one of the best. only real issues lie with the original (season 1) toys. which as you can see, have since been rectified.

Courtesy of site sponsors Kapow! Toys and RobotKingdom, we get a better look at the humorously named new Takara Tomy Legends line figures, repainting Hasbro Generations ones under new names (sometimes). On the Legends website, the figures are only listed up to LG07 Jetfire, but we also know that Generations Swerve and Tailgate will be released together under LG08 (with the amusingly named Swarp),and Voyager Brainstorm will be LG09. Check out both sites for pre-orders now!

That grey plastic on the brainstorm is awful dark, the faceplate looks quite dull in those pictures too. It's quite a heavy contrast against the blue; remembering my childhood brainstorm figure it feels as though the hasbro version is the more accurate this time around.

Swerve and Tailgate look quite dull too, a lot unchanged; there was a lot of potential for tailgate to get some extra paint apps and break up all that white too, but all I can see that they've done is remove the blue flames from the hood.

That's cemented me picking up the hasbro versions then.

"Swarp" is actually a misreading of the Japanese kana for Swerve. Stores are well-known do to that. Just saying :-B And good to see the name Arcana being confirmed, and Flanker is now Phaser? :-?

Va'al wrote:(with the amusingly named Swarp)
"Swarp" is a mistranslation.

The way Swerve's name is spelled in Japanese Katakana, スワーブ, gives us the Romanization of "Suwābu". Seeing as how the "bu" sound (ブ) is made from almost the same character as the "pu" sound (プ) but with a two little notches instead of little circle, it seems that RobotKingdom misread the ブ as a プ and misconstrued "Suwābu" into "Suwāpu" and came out with "Swarp" instead of "Swerve".

A similar thing happened with the Prime Arms Micron Swerve figure (the remold of Breakdown), whose name was initially mistranslated as "Swoop" (which is also written as スワープ "Swāpu", with the same little difference from スワーブ "Suwābu" in its プ vs. the latter's ブ)

Once again, I think Hasbro has gone with the G1 toy as the basis for their "Classics" rendition while Takara-Tomy aims more for screen accuracy from the original cartoon series. The G1 Brainstorm toy has lighter gray plastics, but on the show, the gray in Brainstorm's character model was a LOT darker. I used to just buy what Hasbro released because it's more readily available in stores in the U.S. (and cheaper), but my tastes have turned to screen accuracy of late, so I'm leaning more towards the Takara release for Brainstorm now. That is, unless Takara goes too far in trying to make him "screen accurate" to Headmasters and paints a mouth over his mouth plate. ;)
