Knock Off Blue-Colored Bluestreak Coming Soon?

I'm still waiting for that Sunstreaker KO. If it's as good a quality as the Mirage i got i won't be disappointed.

I have a "G1" Ratchet that I suspect is a KO. I got it for Christmas in 2005 (with just a plastic bubble on cardboard, no official box). The toy looks like the original, comes with the same accessories, and even has some paint scratches revealing metal. However, it has no date; only Takara on it. Also, it looks a little too good to be 20+ years old. I am thankful that I have Ratchet, but am wondering if this is a KO or not.

If it has Takara on it and there is a circle around the name then it is a pre-G1 Transformers 'Diaclone' mould which does not make it a KO. If you can post a pic then this can be verified.

That one seems custom painted and with custom stickers as the belly sticker is in correct colors while the KO ones has it in wrong colors. But maybe the person who took the photos can answer that better.

Well I cracked open my catalogs and Warman's guide, showing I'm getting rusty. I forgot Beachcomber was a 1985 release and not a pre-rub. So, I guess we need to send a G1 Beachcomber in for a photo shoot.

Also, a note to seibertron.com admins: Can the gallery information be updated to reflect that the Beachcomber gallery is of a custom or K.O.

Seaspray is getting really upset over this whole affair. He feels betrayed that BC is not the guy he used to hang out with all the time.

The easiest tell tale sign is the red Decepticon insignia. But a simple switch of the insignia could make these very tricky to spot. Here are some other signs to look for: (To view the whole image - open the image file name in a new window.)


This is the KO, but from the lighting and camera angle, the insignia looks reddish purple.



The grids are always give away. Look at how the grids don't line up the same way. Also, the sunburst near the feet is blurred but brighter.









The numbers on the stickers do not match up properly.



There are three versions of Scourge. The KO is on the right. The middle one may be the Targetmasters version.



Notice that the plastic for the KO has visible particles in it.



Notice the font used for the copyright symbols. The KO is slender.



Notice the extra divets in the KO.






The top image may be the Targetmaster version.

there should be a special on Dateline about these KOs. Air it around the time the new movie comes out.

i'm no expert, but if I saw a red decepticon symbol on a g1 scourge I'd be suspicious. Looks too suspect.

I recently ebayed a Soundwave with all his cassettes and noticed that Frenzy doesn't have metal feet like Rumble and his head is all slanted to one side. His legs come out and on the back it says Takara and says "Made in Macau." Is this a KO?

It doesn't appear to be a KO, it seems to be one of those legit versions manufactured at Macau. I also have some TFs made in Macau. Usually these have less metal parts and slight differences in paint.

Okay, that makes me feel better. I guess I'll just touch him up with some paint or something when I find the time to make him look like he does have metal.

I just picked up a loose g1 Wheeljack this morning. He clearly doesn't look to be a KO. He is identical to the one that I have in my personal collection with one exception:

The stamp says only : "Takara, Japan"

Whereas MINE says "hasbro, 1980-1982; Takara 1980-1982 japan"

Is it possibile that he's just a pre-hasbro version?

I think so, but I can be more certain tomorrow or after tomorrow as I'm going to receive a KO Wheeljack and I'll check it and then post here (with a photo if possible).

I'm not sure but I think it is like the original, everything is stickers as far as I know, but some are factory stickers.

The high quality KOs sometimes have a tech spec decoder, but I think they never have catalogs with them.

this is potentially a stupid question, but those who went to Botcon, did the strong presence of Hasbro serve to thwart the sales of KOs?? I'm not an expert at spotting them, but I did see some mint boxed G1 dinobots that were about 30-50 bucks, didn't look like re-issue or encore, looked too nice to be real. Just curious

Can someone tell me how much did Shockwave cost back in the day? I'd like to compare the price to the new quality KO reissue, which is being sold by about $95 USD with shipping costs.

i think it was $30-40 at least. Maybe more. I wanted him so bad back in the day, i drooled everytime i saw the box.

Thanks for your answer. Then the KO, although good, is highly overpriced... I wonder if they're that expensive from factory (and if so, I wonder if the production cost is that high) or if it's simply the sellers who charge huge amounts for them because they know we're gonna buy the figures.

I would answer the botcon question, if I knew the answer . I'm too far away (Portugal) to be at a Botcon someday...

i hate to be devil's advocate (b/c i want the price to be low), but u must know that the price I mentioned was 25 yrs. ago. Should be adjusted for inflation. And that $90 tag u saw is probably technically what it should be

Do you think that if that figure was now released officialy it would cost that much? Hmm, I don't think so because there were recent bigger reissues (Encore Metroplex, Sky Lynx and Omega Supreme), and their release retail prices are $72, $82 and $102 respectively. So, I don't know, but I guess maybe Shockwave would be cheaper if it was released now by Hasbro or TakaraTomy, maybe $50-$60?

These KOs are good but they're overpriced. For instance, Mirage and Wheeljack are standard size G1 vehicles and their KOs were and are being sold at about $50-$70 without shipping costs, while the same sized G1s like Encore Jazz cost about $30 in release retail price.

I've checked the prices before posting. Not clearence prices, but the actual release prices.

The first standard i was going by for inflation was Star Wars figures -they were $2.50 -$3 around then. Now they are $8+ (yikes). So 3 x 30 = $90 roughly. But now when i think about it, 90 does sound high. Extorted price. If H/Tak were to re-release it should probably be $50-$60 even with working electronics. The entity who owns the rights to Shockwave are real bastards. Chase it with all of your might Hasbro!! The fans will back you up!! (that goes for Jetfire too!!)

Yeah, still it was cheaper back in the day.

As for Jetfire I think it may be even tougher because isn't it from Bandai? Bandai is a very big company in Japan as far as I know, so I doubt they'll give it to Hasbro or even TakaraTomy, which is a competitor for them... As for ToyCo I have no idea if they're active... if they aren't then it could be easier to get Shockwave.

I want both, but I'd be happy with one if they ever by some miracle got re-acquired.

You could always just buy a VF-1S Hikaru Ichijo and add some stickers to him. Maybe paint a few items to have the colors even more in line with Jetfire if it can't be handled with the reprolabels.

last year I bought a 1/55th scale Focker's VF-1s at SDCC. Always thought it was bada$$ and it is the JF mold I think. I wasn't going to put repro labels on it/paint it. Looks too cool as it is with the skulls on the tail. Just talking about it makes me want to open it and play --only opened once and didn't transform it. (duh! what am i doing>??)

Be careful when buying G1 KOs on ioffer because there's a thief selling them for very good prices and then sending wrong items (e.g. pens) to people by EMS (I suppose he does that so that he can say to PayPal that he sent the items). That seller started with the account 'kuanling23s', then after emptying all the items for sale he created another store with a similar name and now he created another one. We can see it is the same person because the descriptions are the same, he always has 1 positive feedback in the beginning and answers speaking in the same way as if he didn't know english well.

Yes, I feel like an idiot for having believed in this seller. It sounded fishy from the beginning because the prices were very good compared to the other sellers. But he answered everything and it seemed to be real.

I'll write here again on Friday after receiving the package and confirming if I was actually deceived just like others were.

Yeah, and ebay is really expensive to sell over there... At least on ioffer they only charge you for items you actually sell, while on ebay they charge just to post the items for sale and then again if you sell them, but if you don't... you already paid an amount .

I'll post again tomorrow after receiving my package because something is comming, but I guess what is inside the package. I'm wondering if it's also a freakin' pen... The guy seems to have a well thought plan, but it's never 100% fail proof, hopefully he will be caught. At least everytime I see a sale of his I'll write there advising people not to buy. And I urge everyone who was con by him to do the same.
