Starting in November Japan's Kerekero Ave magazine will feature a new Transformers manga by Naoto Tsushima titled "Transformers All Spark". His credits include the Henkei! Henkei! in-package comics and manga, Transformer Animated: The Cool, Tales of the Pretenders, the Robot Masters manga, and much of the package art for the Henkei line. The new manga appears to be G1 themed.

hey im just wondering: How well do comic books even sell in the east?
do they even get sold there? do they get translated?

but back to the topic: i honestly dont wanna see how the allspark would fit into the g1 story and art seems like what i would expect from a normal manga.

Well this was unexpected. What sort of story will this entail? Will it be part of the greater Japanese G1 cartoon continuity, or be its own thing like a few manga series have been? What's the meaning of the "All Spark" part of the title? For how long will it run? Why are they making this amid a slew of other existing series whose stories are still being told? So many questions.

Uh, yeah, the term has been canon since Beast Machines. :P

So... This is good news for me, as I happen to be a fan of the Japanese G1 continuity. :-?

And even though I have pretty much gave up on obtaining the "Henkei! Henkei! Transformers" Bun Bun manga, as the second half was never published... Hearing this is something short of being an early birthday gift to me. :michaelbay: But I do digress on that, as I am hoping that it will mean both Takara Tomy and Kadokawa Shoten will strike a deal that has all past manga stories be republished in a "Transformers Ace" manga magazine... Or just be republished by them.

Either way, I am getting this even though it means I have to look for said manga, as this one will not be collected anytime soon. :BOT:

And don't forget that since this is the Takara Tomy half, it has been a Generation 1 term ever since they fused the Beast Era (Beast Wars, Beast Wars Metal, Beast Wars Return, Beast Wars II, and Beast Wars Neo) with the Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers continuity.

Which has me wonder if this will be tied into the manga-portion of the Primax continuity, try to squeeze it into the animated/Headmasters portion, or be a new branch. :-?

Technically the first use of the term "AllSpark" in any Japanese continuity was in the Japanese dub of the live action 2007 movie, since the Allspark of Beast Machines was renamed the "Matrix Zone" in the Beast Wars Returns dub. ;)

Good question. The JG1 cartoon continuity is already jam-packed as it is.

Or, it could be another retelling like the various Henkei! Henkei! manga series were.

Good point on the first part. I was thinking more of the concept tied to the original animated series, and debuted in Beast Wars (episode 29, and not the episode I was thinking about - episode 40). Not the physical object in the live action movies... Or the version in Beast Machines. :-B

And with the second part, as long as it is not tied to UNITED, I would be fine with that. However, there is that gap between G-2 and Beast Wars, which is untouched. However, I know that I now must get the issue it will debut in... Even if it compromises my chances of having a complete set of Cybertron Commanders in the Encore set. :michaelbay:

The Takara Tomy series will be published in Kerokero Ace, which previously put out the "Keroro Gunso colored scheme movie version" Starscream.

Plus, I should add that it is Kadokawa Shoten's third published work, fourth overall for Kadokawa Shoten if you add the one published by ASCII MediaWorks.

Kerokero Ace.

Beat you to the punch. You owe me a sandwich. But, then again, I also owe you a sandwich for that one correction. So lets call it square. ;)

Besides, Sabrblade, I was going to ask you this - Have you read the Transformers Animated: The Cool? And also, do you think that we may see the debut of this story come with an exclusive item? :-?

Yes. It was awesome! As were Star Gate Sen'eki (The Battle of the Star Gate), the RobotMasters manga (what little I could understand of it), and Pretender Gaiden (Tale of the Pretenders), which were also works by Tsushima. The guy knows how to tell cool stories. 8)

I might have to check it out, then. I loved the Henkei! Henkei! manga stuff he did to the point that it became one of the two reasons why my collection began with the Henkei!/Gentei! line. That, and even though volume 2 was never published, I may still have to get it. And with Pretenders Gaiden, it is the #1 reason why I want to obtain a copy of Generations 2012, volume 1. It fills in their gap when it comes to them, and he does a great job. :D

The other two... I need to seek them. :-?

Sabrblade wrote:It could happen.

I am 100% hoping so. I missed out on their last promotion, which had movie Starscream meet the cast of Keroro Gunso (a series I like, but dislike the way it is handled here). Namely because it was movie Starscream. And also, if they do, this would justify me getting two copies... Instead of just one.

I just read them online, scanlated into English (except for the RobotMasters manga, which was never scanlated as far as I know).

I'll look for the rest when I have the time. Because atop of my upcoming birthday plans, and orders I need to make (TFCC has some clothing items I hope to get), I am also trying to make a complete catalog of the main Japanese Generation 1 toylines and list of characters that obtained a Commander rank within the very same continuity.

Oh, and Robot Masters had a pretty good OVA storyline, but much like Henkei! Henkei!... I have to wonder if the correct one to read is the online manga or the pack-in manga. Because both told the same story, but these were told in a slightly different manner (according to TFwiki).

And with Transformers... I get enough confusion when it comes to the multiple usages of even a single continuity.

KUMA-NIN Maximus wrote:BBTS has it still in stock. ;)

I'll check it out. Thanks. :D But since I am on a limited budget (thanks to reasons I am not yet comfortable saying here), I have to hope that I can get what I want and not have it complicate the rest of the month, budget-wise. :-(

Got both of those OVAs downloaded and subtitled in English. The first one is as badly a glorified toy commercial as the G1 cartoon was, but the second does have a much cooler (if kinda rushed) story to it. I like them, but I'll admit that they're far from perfect. ;)

Yeah, RobotMasters kinda branches off into multiple paths with its fiction, even though the outcome is the same for them all. In that case, all of them could be considered "correct", as though the timeline were to branch off then reconnect after RobotMasters or something. And hey, since that story pretty much dealt with the timeline being messed up with the Blasty Zone and all, such a phenomenon could be entirely possible. :P

Yeah. I remember when I had seen the second version of Scrambled City, it reminded me of the introduction video Mattel created for the He-Man toyline. Lets just say that Beastman had been a victim of Castle Grayskull's drawbridge in that toy-based video. But yeah... When it comes to Takara, if they are not trying to make a glorified toy-based continuity, they do give the actual main storyline something that makes us want more. ;)

Yup. This is one of the two reasons why I removed Robot Masters from my want list. From what I have read, it was not meant to be part of the main Japanese G1 continuity, but more like Takara's answer to Universe. However, despite that, Takara Tomy allowed this to join the likes of the Beast Wars trilogy, Kiss Players (including Pepsi Convoy), and this series be absorbed... Despite the fact that they forgot to tell us which story to follow.

I guess this is where the "Bloody Zone" bit happens, as they tend to make things bloody confusing when it comes to story-based additions.

I honestly found the toy version of Scramble City to be hilarious.

Yeah, but it's early backstory material described it being set in 2004 from the get-go, with the construction of Autobot City being underway and such.

I guess to the higher ups, since each version tells essentially the same basic story, it doesn't matter to them which one we follow. :|

Also, it gives them an explanation to why fans originally felt like the city looked more like Fortress Maximus than Metroflex.

And speaking of Metroflex... I also enjoyed the toy version of Scramble City. Mostly because I lived through that period of time, and stuff from the 1970s and 1980s are stuff I tend to look for on YouTube. :-B

Sabrblade wrote:I guess to the higher ups, since each version tells essentially the same basic story, it doesn't matter to them which one we follow. :|

Yup. As much as I like Takara Tomy, they have been too busy trying to put out new products to complete continuities for ones that they already done. :BANG_HEAD: I mean... In 2007, they slapped together a Generation 1 continuity, allowing some later stories and aspects to be added. But they never said what stories are used and what stories are ignored.

And when it comes to micro-continuities, they only give us tidbits of stories or incomplete series because they seem to have not planned that far. Henkei! deserves a sequel, but they will not give it one. And UNITED just makes my head go :BOOM: when I try to understand it.

I guess since they are going to move on with Generations, it is safe to presume that this is going to be a continuity tie-in and not a toy tie-in... Which means we may actually get a story/series that makes sense. ;)
