If the entire show had been animated like this I would have had a much higher opinion of it. Really wish it could have looked more like this opening.

Also: I love JAM Project. :x

Holy crap that was really a surprise! Completely new animation and it highlights some hardly seen characters like the true Ironhide and others. I don't Magnus can really jump like that! haha

Wow just wow.. looks real aweseome.. looks like they made Arcee and Blackarachnia have some sort of rivalry going on.. makes me think that they are redoing the whole series..

This one opening has completly revived animated for me, as well as making me want to own every toy in the line now. American openings just aren't epic enough.

And also, my soul died a second time, as I am again reminded that the series will never be finished... *sigh*

=P~ That sh*t was awesome!.... Damnit! Japan always gets it better... How badass was that! So are they gonna have a totally different cartoon than us? I never noticed Magnus had a battle mask. I bet they get a Omega toy over there!

And when Optimus turns all sparkly, who's the giant he flies into at the end?

Wow Slipstream looks kinda hot.

Who the hell is that guy with a cape at the beginning? It can't be Lockdown as it's not his head or hands.

This wasn't too bad.

The word 'hyped' doesn't even come close to describing this. Screw the idea about a Seibertron forum feud cartoon, I wanna see the opening to this show made INTO AN ENTIRELY NEW ANIME!

Feels like false advertising though. The rest of the show was good, but it wasn't on this kind of level.

Isnt tha the way with a lot of japanese tv though? look at Yu Gi Oh or Pokemon Digimon and amny others, the starting and ending animation is top notch stuff from people like Toei and then the actual shows sub par compared to the awesomeness you saw open the show.

The same with comics, Joe Scott Campbell cover art, Jode Delbose interior
Re: Japanese Transformers Animated Opening is Online (1061112)

I was speaking more along the lines of the emotional feel of the opening rather than the quality of the animation. The battle scenes, the rousing, fast paced music, and the complete absence of Sari. All of which combine to give the impression of the show being a lot more action packed than it actually is.

Wow! That was a LOT more impressive than I was expecting. I figured I'd watch it to laugh at it. I was wrong! I WISH they had had an opening like that here in the states! Maybe it would have helped hook enough viewers to keep it going another season or two.

i'm a huge fan of "awesomelyanimatedmecha/robotsuperopeningsforanimewithkickasssongs"
especially if you throw in hironubu kageyama in there somewhere (i love that guy! :D )

still doesnt beat the super voyager opening from beast wars II (thats like one of my top 3 favorite songs!)

(god the japanese kids who are gonna be disappointed when they see the horrible animation of the show compared to the opening)

what is the japanese people's obsession with lame 80s sounding pop music for cartoon intros? lol

but lame music aside, this actually made the show look like it would be good as opposed to what it actually was.

but i do have a question that i wonder if anyone here can answer. i've noticed that many opening credits to different cartoons in japan are always covered in writing. what the hell is all that stuff? the only writing we should see is the title and then in some cases maybe the "created by/based on" credit. but like in this case, there was all that writing for most of the beginning even before the voiceover guy spoke.

even japanese commercials are always crazy busy with writing.

Yeah... I mean in some ways its pretty spoiler-y. Especially if they track through the show the same way it aired here. Starscream with the all spark fragment in his head didn't happen until what? Season 2? And Black Arachnia didn't "command" the Dinobots until Season 3. Plus it kind of takes the suspense out of seeing some of the Elite Guard for the first time, if we see them already in the opening but they don't show up for an entire season in.

Unless they're going to just go ahead and redo everything somehow... which would really royally suck. That THEY get new episodes and we don't. Sure... we give them the frakking show and they give us toys...

But I do echo the statement... why are Japanese tv shows so... obsessed with 80s sounding pop songs, BOATLOADS of writing... lengthy voice overs and MORE writing... sure I can understand a "crawl" like "50 years ago... the transformers came to Earth. They were hidden under a Great Lake. Now... they return!" or something equally cheesy, but I can understand it. But... why haven't the Japanese evolved into just showing us a short action opener and get on with the story, that opening was like 3 minutes long!

The show will air in a different order and will be changed, get this:
To fit into the Movie cannon, this show is set before the first movie. 8-}

the episodes will likely be edited and might feature new animation to further make this happen, even if it's just going to be new material of Sary panty-shots.

What in the name of ass posessed them to do that? There are going to be major plotholes nless the movies are also dubbed in Japaneese, or they're going to have to recreate the show totally!

I wonder when a clear version will be online, but this was Animated on steroids! Freakin' EPIC.

(1. Now I want a fourth season  )

(2. It's sad that when Japan can do animations on this level, the Energon-Cybertron was cursed with cheap CG - make a show with this kind of animations and american writers!)

(3. This reminded me of the Japanese X-men intros.)

The bottom writings in the video are lyrics for the intro song, can't do that for the US animated intro. There'll be a lot more of the lines in subs of the series (the pronunciation and the translation). Really cool intro. If they did redo the whole series, hopefully it'll be very emotional like other japanese animes (gundam for instance)
Re: Japanese Transformers Animated Opening is Online (1061269)

but the main questions that need to be answered abotu this intro are :

who was that ominous red eyed figure at the beginning ?

and

why did optimus cover himself in sparkles (that make him fly by the way) to fight the giant badass looking megatron ?

both these never appeared in the original version so why are they in the opening ?

Yeah, as good as the animation is, it totally misrepresents everything. It gives away a ton of spoliers (Blackarachnia's true identity, Omega Supreme), and sets up a load of stuff that really doesn't happen (do Arcee and Blackarachnia even meet on the show)

Before or after her upgrade..? *dodges thrown bricks* AACK..! KIDDING, just kidding..!

Seriously, how in the Fallen's ballsack are they going to tie TFA into the Bayverse continuity? I mean, yeah, they both do the AllSpark thing, but the movies are present day (or a reasonable likeness) while the cartoon takes place in a visibly advanced future. I mean, yeah, MAYBE they could get away with setting it AFTER the movies, but BEFORE..? You thought the Mission City coverup was a stretch, where are they gonna hide all the robots already in Detroit when the Autobots wake up..?

Re: Japanese Transformers Animated Opening is Online (1061464)
Posted by APPS on April 4th, 2010 @ 4:44pm CDT
I've been reading this site for ages, but this has impressed me enough to actually make an account so i thought i'd give my two cents (Hint hint at all the "Hi, welcome to the forum" comments :D )

First, i guess the show can happen in the future and be a prequel to the present (They did it for beast wars?) but it doesnt make much sense unless they do something like saying that the (spoiler, but i'm guessing everyone knows by now) death of prowl was soooo traumatic for Bulkhead (/Ironhide) that it radically changed his personality... and somehow Ratchet got dipped in a vat of max strength anti aging cream.... And starscream was ressurected.... and arcee got converted into three bikes, one of which has the hots for ironhide rather than ratchet... and of course if prime lost his jetpack... i mean all they have to do is retcon all of that, how difficult can it be? :P

Here's what interested me about the starting sequence:

Lots of scenes that never happened etc kinda imply the japanese series is gunna be somewhat different to the american one.
What i find the most interesting is that even though American Bulkhead has been retconned into Japanese Ironhide, the Transformer Formerly known as Ironhide also makes an appearance! I assume he's going to be bulkhead in the japanese version?

Also, Longarm Prime is fighting for the Decepticons, not shockwave, longarm. I suppose this could be to sav the surprise that shockwave is the inside agent, but considering they have no problem showing the starscream clones, allspark starscream, omega supreme etc, not too mention the fact that they blatantly show longarm to be the inside agent, it seems odd that they keep shockwave a secret?

I'm also interested in the fact that Sari, Waspinator, Swindle and Safeguard don't appear. I'm not so fussed about sari, swindle and safeguard im not too keen on the characters, but why so much emphasis on arcee and "ironhide/bulkhead" and not good old waspie? And no soundwave love?

Sorry for the big post guys!

EDIT: Something else i noticed, firstly arcee has her swords :D Secondly when "Glowing Prime" bursts off to go fight the big dark thing at the end, it almost looks like omega supreme, but the lugnut supremes from the original had lugnuts big centre eye, whilst this dark creature has two... Ofcourse this is probs just showing him fighting "evil beings" in general...

Holy **** that was AMAZING. I loved that opening, though the guy and the chorus singing were chezzy (but they're Japanese, so what do I know). If that's their cartoon, then I want it translated-somehow! Did anyone notice that the anime had a Robots in Disguise look to it?
