For those who can't wait for the revival of the Universe/Classics toyline in 2010, Toy Hobby Japan has put an exclusive that will be in the eyes of every toy collector in the next few months. We get Gentei Dark Skyfire, a black and purple repaint of Henkei Skyfire, and is a Decepticon soldier. The figure is available for pre-order on November 12, and is set for release on March 2010. Check out the pictures below.

If you were able to buy it direct, looks like it's comes out to about $40. Now what the mark-up will be is another story...

Doesn't do much for me, thankfully. The Skywarp colors are cool, but it actually reminds me of an Animated fig for some reason... The "naked" jet looks pretty neat, but the neon purple jetpack is a bit much.

2) It's imaginative
3) Arguably best paint job on that mold;

4) Shattered Glass Jetfire?
5) It'll look nice side by side with Dreadwind
6) The mold is sexy to begin with
7) Repaint of the Year?

Damn it! Why'd you have to say that? I was gonna pass on this, but now I have too. It was hard enough Jetfire is one of my favourite Transformers and the Classics mold being one of my favourite molds, but put on top of that it's Shattered Glass Jetfire! That's all kinds of badass! I have to agree that this recolor is rather confusing. Yes, it's supposed to be an evil Jetfire, but is that it? Is there something special about that? Is there some kind of homage involved besides... Skywarp?

It's not Skywarp. Skywarp has silver, and a yellow coloured clear plastic. Just because it's purple doesnt mean its a Skywarp homage. It's more Astrotrain than anything else that I know of. Who knows, but like I said, It's imaginative. Doesn't necessarily have to be a homage.

This is awesome, finally somebody decided to think outside the box and give us something I'm sure nobody would have seen coming. I have to agree with blurzz about that paint job. It looks sweet in black :grin:

. Come to think of it it is undeniably an Astro homage as this is not the first time a Jetfire mold has been recolored into Astrotrain.

At least the Armada mold made since in the Astrotrain colors(minus the train part anyway). Maybe it is SG Skyfire?
Either way It'll still look good on display.

I don't see the Astrotrain homage with the green. It seems like they just picked some good ol' Decepticony colours.

Not a bad looking repaint, and a good mold, but Jetfire and Dreadwind have ticked all the right boxes for this mold already as far as I am concerned.

Some good chaps at TFW2005 have translated some of the Japanese:

DARK SKYFIRE

Destron (Decepticon) Scientific Officer
Alt Mode: Super Jet, Battle-Up Mode
Weapon: Missile Launcher, Photon beam, Heat-Seeking Missile, Laser Cannon

He's millions year old, was in the same unit/group as Skyfire and went exploring in space.

In Superjet mode, he can travel around half the Earth in 30minutes.

Preorder deadline: December 11, 2009 (Fri) Noon
Release: Approx March 2010

Note: Final Product may differ from images.

Some other guy translated it such that Dark Skyfire is Skyfire himself, from an era before the formation of the Decepticon army. Since my understanding of Japanese isn't 100% accurate, it might be true.

Doesn't make sense though, since the formation of the Cons started with the formation of their army/military... And why would he join wear the Con insignia before the Cons were formed? Also, wouldn't it be better named as Skyfire Pre-War ver or something...

I really don't care what they are gonna call him. That paint job is just to sweet to pass up on that mold. I've been waiting for a nice Con color scheme like that since we found out about Dreadwind back in Botcon 07!! Can't wait for the preorders for this guy to go up.

RK will probably be far cheaper than BBTS in this instance. Or Fantofan, if they get it. I got my Henkei Thundercracker from them for $20 less than most other places.

IMO, this is a strange choice to get the 'dark repaint' treatment. I mostly won't be getting it because it's neither a G1 homage nor a new mold that's so awesome I can't pass up. Also I like my money.

I like how the profile suggests he's a different character to Skyfire. Always glad to see a new character in G1. Though if I got him, I'd call him Skyfire and and call the Autobot Jetfire since that's what he's called over here anyway.

Since various versions of G1 have had the Jetfire/Starscream relationship, the fact that the profile mentions the Dark Skyfire and Skyfire link/history suggests that he could have a history with Starscream too and not necessarily a good one either.

I've been putting off buying Treadbolt but now I feel compelled to pick up all variants of this mold including Dreadwind.

I was actually gonna do the same thing you mentions about calling one Jetfire and the other Skyfire. But I was thinking about going back to SkyShadow since I renamed my Unvs SkyShadow as Combaticon Blastoff.

So Jetfire will be displayed without his helmet as will Dreadwind. And Treadbolt and "SkyShadow" will be displayed with helmet on. I'm just glad I can get 3 different looks for 4 characters. Yeeeaaa!!
