Is Rattrap really any different from the Hasbro version?

I don't think Rattrap is actually going to be packaged like that. The way he's displayed in the photo wouldn't really fit on store shelves. Plus, he's not even secured in the box.

I was thinking he same thing man. Box instead of card though is cool.

Yeah, if you hate the Earth
Serious question though: Why are Takara's packaging so wildly different than Hasbro's? Have all of the generations toys been boxed?

and just cause hes not secured in the box doesnt mean its not official. could just be a mock up.

I dunno... I think it depends on the situation.
I haven't seen many (or maybe even any) complaints about most of the AoE chromed stuff, like the Platinum Edition OP & Grimlock 2-pack, or the OP Evolution 2-pack, or the SDCC Dinobots, etc. Even the AoE Leader Prime's chrome is fairly well placed.
Jetfire's chrome isn't just an accent... it comprises a large part of the toy. Especially against a white background, it's a lot. I personally don't really mind it, but probably could have gone for more black on the weapons to break them up a bit.

Eh, what toys are you talking about, because I don't know of any main line Takara figures to use any chrome on them other than Convoy and his variants (for the grill and bumper) since the original Henkei Henkei figures. My praise of Takara's figures has almost always been due to the use of metallic paint (BIG difference between metallic and chrome) and the sheer number of paint apps (like painting in headlights/tail lights and other details that are molded in but conspicuously unpainted in the Hasbro variants from time to time).
Regarding Jetfire, I'm with the others here. I'm going for the Takara version. I preordered it when I saw it come up on BBTS earlier today and I cancelled my preorder for the Hasbro version. Had Hasbro covered all the red bits with red chrome it may have been worth it, but mixing chrome with a different type of paint for details that are supposed to match doesn't look too good in my opinion (I wasn't a big fan of some of the Henkei Henkei figures with their one-off chrome bits either for the very same reason as it just looked out of place).

This is a different line that Generations for Japan. In Japan, the Generations line has been long over. Back when it was in effect, it used a packaging style that look very similar to Hasbro's Generations packaging. But now that Generations is over in Japan, they're starting a new line for the remaining Generations toys to be sold in Japan, which will be known as the Transformers: Legends line. And with a new line comes new packaging.Optimizzy wrote:Serious question though: Why are Takara's packaging so wildly different than Hasbro's? Have all of the generations toys been boxed?
As for the box-style packaging instead of carded packaging, in this case, it's a homage to the Japanese Beast Wars packaging from the late 90's, which also used boxes instead of cards.

Considering that Jetfire - looks real nice with the black details on the guns.

im hoping that too. you gotta figure, if theres a chance they can repaint a toy into anything else that theyll do it. it all equals money to them.OptimalOptimus2 wrote:COME ON TAKARA! Repaint Sky-Byte into Cybershark! Please!!!!

So interesting that Hasbro goes shiny chrome and Takara goes old school. I like this version much better and have pre-ordered 2 from TFSource.com. The figures are also listed on BBTS.com and are a dollar cheaper than TFSource. I went for the free shipping when ordering two as it was $151.90 through Source.
I figure this is a solid investment and would rather put my money into a well thought out old school homage than what Hasbro will be giving us. December cannot come soon enough for this great representation!!
Now to Amazon to cancel my Hasbro edition pre-order. Reprolabels could jazz up the Hasbro version but cannot cover up that stupid shiny chrome.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It really depends on the particular line & figure.

It's basic economics really. It's actually on par with current Japanese prices for Leader Class, and in fact between US and EU prices (EU being 70 Euros)

If the stock pics are accurate and not open to further changes it looks like it will follow the exact color apps found in the box art.
See the stripes patterns on both chest panels (R and L)? The apps on his front shins. His sigils now have white borders and the armor have the black paint apps. And it looks like no chrome.
Being Japan bound, maybe this changes are Tomy's justification of a "slightly" higher SRP. He also might have a different colored plastic like the Japanese Drift had a different white from the Hasbro. I said "might" though.........

A pearly white would make Takara Jetfire 100% worth the asking price, IMHO.

I don't know what shade it will be, but I'd bet that the Takara version will use at least slightly different color plastics. They almost always do, sometimes subtly different and other times dramatically so, but it's almost always at least somewhat different.

Their Gelshark is shinier than Sky-Byte, and their Jetfire has more paint apps than Hasbro's. So, for Jetfire, it's just a non-shiny bling.fenrir72 wrote:Tomy or specifically anything for the Japanese market has an extra bling, though in this case.......no bling?? hehehehe

I am puzzled as to how each of these Legends toys look to be the same size. Leo Prime and Optimus Primal use the same original molds and original ultra sizes right? So then which mold is that classic optimus from? It looks like the Deluxe Classics Prime but he was much smaller. And the movie optimus looks like the one step optimus but once again that size make me scratch my head as to what toy this is and if it was actually ever released before. Can anyone help?

Generation One Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal, and Lio Convoy are from the Robotmasters line over in Japan back in 2004-ish, and were all scaled to one another. They're roughly Deluxe-sized. The Optimus Primal and Lio Convoy you see in those images are NOT the Ultra-ish figures originally featured in their respective lines, but scaled down versions.

Thanks! So is this the same toy as the one from this piece of news:

Because if the Primal is deluxe sized, he should be the same size as the rattrap

No, that's the original BW Optimus Primal figure (well, the 10th anniversary retool). The main difference is in the hands.

I just use my Telemocha Series figure (which uses the RobotMasters mold) and have Cheetor (who is also the Telemocha Series figure, using the original BW mold, since the Universe Cheetor mold is garbage) in an action pose with his legs bent to make him squat shorter than Primal.Wolfman Jake wrote:I'm debating what will be the least "problematic" Optimus Primal to go in my Classics Beast Wars collection. The upcoming reissue of the original Ultra figure, which is bigger than voyager Rhinox, or this reissue of the Robotmasters figure, which is quite a bit smaller than Voyager Rhinox. I'm leaning towards a large figure, which would at least scale Primal properly with Cheetor, but then he'd be too big for Dinobot. Ugh...such a headache.
Though, I also use the original Rattrap mold since the Generations mold, while nice, is too big for even Rhinox and Dinobot, only scaling well with the original BW Ultra Optimus Primal mold.

Yeah, I know the Ultra toy coming up from Takara is technically the original toy from Beast Wars, but it's been retooled and redecoed compared to the original release. That gives it a pass in my mind. I do have that deluxe Optimus Primal from the Beast Wars Anniversary line as well. He's the "Classics" primal on my shelf right now, and he's frankly not too bad in bot mode. Gorilla mode is a different matter, but I just kind of pretend he's transmetal. The biggest let down is the size. I wish some of that surf board mass could have gone into the figure itself instead.
Posted by Sabrblade on August 15th, 2014 @ 10:52pm CDT
But that tooling isn't new. It was already given that tooling back in 2007 for the Takara's Beast Wars Reborn release (which was released later that year for Hasbro's BW 10th Anniversary line).Wolfman Jake wrote:Yeah, I know the Ultra toy coming up from Takara is technically the original toy from Beast Wars, but it's been retooled and redecoed compared to the original release. and i was going to say, as far as scale goes i thought beast wars was one of the best. only real issues lie with the original (season 1) toys. which as you can see, have since been rectified.
