shajaki wrote:i dont see what the gripe over this set is. they are clearly trying to get as much as they can out of every MP mold they design. and soundwave only has two uses. and it makes sense that they would add some incentive to rebuy the mold (ratbat). id say the purple window is just too similar to soundwave, but with the red window he look awesome!
making most of the ratbat mold would mean catering to 3 categories of clients. Those that don't got soundwave, they can buy sb and ratbat and get the cassettes seperately. Those that got soundwave and won't be spending on sb, but most importantly once these 2 categories have been covered, ratbat mold has a much greater potential than SB. Namely that while SB is a niche toy at a very high price, ratbat can be sold with another cassette for $25. There are few MP's at that price and that makes them more appealing to a wider demographics. I don't think anycompany would miss out on that.

y'know... the more i look at it... i get more and more upset that:
-the red window has no insignia
-the red window has no gold trim
-there isnt a second window topper thats red
what if you wanted the "raised" look with the red window? youre SOL.
with no insignia or gold trim on the red window (which is how i planned to display him) he looks quite... empty. and the red is the best way to distinguish him from soundwave. sure i could reprolabel him an insignia, but this is a masterpiece figure... i shouldnt have to.

Are the ko cassettes pretty much spot on in quality?

Hasbro MP Soundwave all the way. Even at $200 it's still a better deal than getting the Takara one and buying the cassettes separate.

The Takara version is completely faithful to the original American cartoon but comes with just Laserbeak (in addition to the other accessories.) However you can get the other four cassettes from eBay if you don't mind KOs.
The Hasbro version is packed with the same accessories and all five cassettes but has yellow eyes like the old toy.
Soundblaster is redecoed after the character from the Japanese Headmasters series and comes with accessories + just Ratbat (and as of writing this, it's the only way to get Ratbat.)
I'm a fan of the original American cartoon so I went with Takara.

If you don't have any and have to choose, get the Hasbro Soundwave. Easily the most bang for your buck and if you really want a red visor, just grab some paint.

1st of all, you can get the official cassettes separate from soundwave in packs of 2 at around 25$ (check the pic from my previous post on this thread). plenty on ebay, not sure why they should be Ko's...
2ndly The Hasbro version comes with all cassettes but ratbat.
3rdly but most importantly u can find the hasbro version at toys r us for some $150.
4 OR... you could buy soundblaster, sell ratbat (before they make him available like other cassettes) for a ridiculous amount of $ and buy the cassettes separately

No; I referred to the eBay photo that you linked to in a previous post; the packs of 2 at around $25 that you mentioned; these are KOs.
The knock-off cassettes look the same as the originals. I suspect that perhaps the factory produced extras to sell on eBay as "KOs." It seems that the only difference is that the hand-guns are kind of loose on the punks' backs.
There are some comparison photos in the KO/3rdPaty forum: viewtopic.php?f=215&t=97180

I have hasbro grimlock, acid storm, thundercracker, and skywarp, and Takara Bluestreak.
Thanks again and wish me luck, I fear this might be the near the end of my TF collection since I'm trying to invest in repairing my dads truck for me to drive. It's good and bad but I'll miss all of this! I hope to return to the fandom again! I'll stay around for maybe another year if everything works out!

well the way u initially put it made it seem there were no offcial versions of the cassettes which is not the case.
also the way u said it, sort of implied that ALL MP cassettes are KO because you didn't mention KO of soundwave for example
(http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... ipe/27775/),
so you didn't warn against KOs in general but just and specifically the cassettes.. dunno kind of confusing

Completely agree. Anyone expecting to actually find one in a TRU (or spent anything close to retail price) is delusional.

Yeah it's not really worth the trouble for a hasbro MP. I think I'll just get takara soundwave and maybe the "ko" sets I'm not paying 70-90 dollars for two cassettes that's outrageous

No joke.
The box was beat up with an ugly crease going down the front side of it, but it was factory sealed and all the contents inside were A-OK, much to my relief. Never saw another one again, after that, so glad I grabbed it when I did.

My friend found and picked up mine for me but the box was just beaten to hell. The one corner was just absolutely crushed. Everything inside was fine but it was obvious why it was still there. Still, it was the only one anyone I know ever even found at retail.

They were only out for a few weeks at the end of the summer here in the States. It was basically TF collector Darwinism over here.

Anyways the end result was that i kept seeing soundvace mp on the TRU uk website for atleast a year after it first appeared. On a side note, currently metroplex is still available but i have no idea if they started putting it on shelfs due to its huge success as they did in us (atleast i read so on seibertron news?).

What's more is that the Metroplexes that it had seemed to shelfwarm for a couple months before I caved in and bought the last one they had during the online sale their website had that let one purchase an in-store product at the website's discounted price.

Good news for you but in the long run............bad news for us? If this was on clearance, does this mean the Titan series bombed? Will this mean we won't be getting more figs at this scale?

I don't think it's a sign that it bombed, they just have to make room for the Age of Extinction toys. Those are going to be on clearance when they bomb.
Posted by Sabrblade on March 24th, 2014 @ 9:16am CDT
I tried to first get the on sale Metroplex from the website, but failed to. Then I called the store to see if they still had their shelfwarming ones in stock, and they had one left. I then had to bargain with the store people over the phone to get them to honor the website's sale price since the site said that one could pick up the desired item in the store at the online sale price. They eventually agreed and so I headed over to the store later that day to get Metroplex at $79.99 plus tax (which bumped it back up to being $90-something ).
Though, I regret not having a Costco around here since that would have made getting Metroplex a whole lot easier.
