On the combined modes? Definitely better than the Samurai team!

WoW! You already own one? What's he like? The transform sequence and the details of construction/design of the figure?
I'd like to know so I can cancel my pre-order asap.
Yea, some guy gave em to me, but they sucked so much, I threw it back in his face and it left an aweful mess. Also, WoW? Not everything is world of warcraft.
Finally the turd, well the "third" member HAS been released. And he looks god@mned awful as a single bot but combine, speaks of coolness as a ninja bot.
As mentioned in my previous post, pics don't do justice to the actual product but in this case, I'll make an exception
The bird and the shark are already on the way from amiami. Just can't wait to combine all three.

Three crapy bots that combine into one real big crapy mess.
No thanks.

No dude, I'm deeply offended. How DARE you have an opinion. Don't you know that's illegal on most planets? Hehe, just kidding (obviously).
I kinda gotta agree with you though. As much as I loves me some beast bots and some funky colored bots and especially some funky colored beast bots, these guys are just sorta "meh". I'm still getting them mind you, but they are going to stay in their funky beast modes never to be combined or transformed into those god awful, long legged, disproportionate individual bot modes.
I have the first set (the cars) and I played with it for a bit and then tossed it in my pile-o-toys-that-are-one-step-away-from-the-parts-bin-to-be-kitbashed (I really gotta come up with a better name for that pile of toys, it's far too lengthy and difficult to remember ). If I don't gain any interest in them soon, I'll be taking my screwdriver to them and dismantling them to use their remains as parts for some kitbash, perhaps for my ongoing behemoth of a combiner project that I've been working on here and there.

This guy reminds me of Energon combiners. That's not a good thing.
I'd love to try him out and join the ranks of "he looks like crap and so I am buying him! HYUCK!" But for the import money? You guys should consider passing - unless he's that much more amazing in hand and you do a 180 on your negative remarks.
There's better 3rd Party stuff, honestly.

On a plus note, the plastic look nice and sturdy, that is one thing I missed from the unicron trilogy lines.

I for one miss official TF combiners in the market (FOC Bruticus not included) and if these sets sell to a profit for Tomy/Hasbro(well maybe Tomy), we'll be seeing more of them in the future.
P.S. If you read my post on Gekisoumaru part, he does look sucky individually (like a pregnant man) hence I'll be keeping them combined.

If you want to recommend that the long legs are not as noticeable by having the product in hand, making that sort of comment makes sense. But please don't tell us not to judge these (especially in bold text.) We all get to have our opinion, even if we don't have the figure in hand.
Thank you!

Pictures don't always tell the WHOLE story. Nowhere did I say to DISREGARD the long legs. I even mentioned that the components themselves were made to be combined, hence they do not look good individually.
If you want to buy it then fine, if not, well no great loss either. Money is scarce, I agree and pics are but one factor in your choosing a product but I have through the years come to discover "you can't immediately judge the book by its cover".
What you should do is first go to the hobby store that sells one then inspect the misb item first. Eyeball it then do the final judgement before buying.Deciding just by the pics itself is just.......seems kind of rushed, unless the real reason for holding back is the import price then that should be the final arbiter for your decision. Imports are really expensive that being the case.

Every picture I see of these shows that the legs appear to be proportionally too long in individual bot mode which makes those modes look very weird. (That also seems to be echoed by a lot of other people.) This also makes a lot of sense as these are combiners. It doesn't change the fact that the legs appear to be unusually long. I do not need to have the product in hand to express this opinion nor be bothered by it.
I don't even say that others should be bothered by it. Certainly, others may like it just fine. You may have your opinion for it, but don't appear to attack others for their opinion just because you disagree with it.

For these prices? Hell no. They look like garbage in these pics so aren't going to look much better in hand. They look awful in bot mode and messy in combined mode.

Well don't buy, but at least eyeball it first. That's fair no? I myself use to think that way, letting initial pics guide my judgement but recent run ins with Springer and the samurai team gave me pause.
There were certain products which I passed off a few years back which I so much wanted but let pass. Only to regret it later after seeing it in person.......the pics didn't show the products' actual awesomeness.

I think the problem here is, at least for me, the price of these guys. If the trios were about $60 each, it'd be okay, I think, but for $100 for a whole team of (mediocre at best) combiners? That's asking a lot. And this is coming from a guy who actually really likes them.
Posted by fenrir72 on September 22nd, 2013 @ 6:15pm CDT
All I'm saying is that pics don't really do them justice. If more fans would support products like these, who knows, maybe Tomy will make more.
And,iirc they were designed by the same team who made the original Starsaber and Fire Convoy. Back then they were major awesome, by our standards.....clunky.

RaCast, the price you are quoting, the $ 100 a set, is that correct?
Got an online retailer's price (of course being from/for a Japanese market, expect a mark up already due to all the bells and whistles tacked on them). For a country experiencing deflation, Japan sure is an expensive place.
I got more or less the current forex exchange rate for the team
Gekisoumaru = Y4320 = $ 43.57(+ electronic gimmick)
Hishomaru = Y2740 = $ 27.63
Sensuimaru = Y2740 = $ 27.63
Total = Y9800= $ 98.83 (not including postage mind you)
I am assuming that the price from the retailer (amiami) already includes some profit for them (amiami) then you factor in the profit for the importer (example BBTS, RK etc) + shipping and handling for the bulk purchase + taxes and cost to ship to your native lands. So yes, importing Japan TFs are indeed very expensive.
I don't think it will be a realistic price to charge $20.00 for each figure when the two figs without electronics already boarders to $ 30.00. Maybe if the electronics were ditched and all cost the same, will still total around $ 83.00

BBTS has the giftsets listed at $110.
And my comment about the set being $60 would probably assume no electronics and smaller size overall. You read ENTIRELY too far into what I said.
Posted by fenrir72 on September 22nd, 2013 @ 10:41pm CDT
As for reading far into what you said, well I'll go back again to the original premise. "Pics don't always show how good or bad a figure is". Unless you've got pics like that by Ryan, its too early to condemn or praise a product.
Collecting imports are thus a given that they are expensive.

Judging from pics gives you an idea of the degree of which you could potentially like a figure, and pics of this set, in many many different pics have told me its ugly as hell in bot mode, alt mode, and combined mode, and definitely not worth any cash given the INSANE 3rd party combiners coming out.

MINDVVIPE wrote:I agree that pics don't always do figures justice, especially since they often need to be posed properly rather than all goofy-lookin'.
On this part I am successful then in getting you to agree. Always has been my premise. Generations Springer is one of the best incarnations out there. No contest. But when pics of the Tomy version came out, it looked ugly with the paint apps. But once I had it on hand (I bought one just the same despite my misgivings), the actual Japanese version wasn't all that bad.
