I'm with you only on the gun thing. And that's saying an awful lot
The darker colors on Soundwave are really striking I must admit, but I'd still go for the Hasbro version for the sake of money.

Agreed on the weapon and buttons... but eek. Looks like it's all pins holding that front panel on, unless I'm remembering wrong. Anyone have one handy to confirm? Either way, a 3rd party would have to redo at least the front panel to do new buttons, I think. Too bad.

But in all seriousness, I find that the darker colors make them look drab, dull, and boring, almost like depressed Goth versions of their more lively Hasbro counterparts.

I guess I prefer those because of the game's dark lighting and nature. It' a little more gritty than the cartoons.
I do find a place in my collection for some bright colors on the ole G2/Euro shelf. Brighter the better.
<---- brighter!!!

Ironic since High Moon made it a point to make FOC a much brighter and vibrant looking game than its predecessor, with a much more colorful Cybertron and such.gothsaurus wrote:Ha ha! YES! Goth versions.

Then again, G1 cartoon Cybertron was most just shades of dark gray and dark blue, as well.gothsaurus wrote:Given, I am comparing those shadowy drains and abandoned ruins and derelict spaceships in the game... to the old G1 cartoon in my brain. That's always going to be pretty drastic.

G1 Soundwave is my favorite transformer. I have the Hasbro versions of this mold, and the only thing keeping me from getting these is the fact that I feel this mold is highly overrated. Not a fan at all of the pointy shoulders or the chest. And of course, the gimmick stinks.

Being a good little geewunner, I'm really digging the Takara version, but I think I'd be pretty happy with the Hasbro one. The only thing I really dislike about that one is the red and yellow.

gothsaurus wrote:I could see you liking the brighter color choice... but there are like 1/2 the paint apps. None on the wheels, forehead, etc.
Yeah, I know. The Hasbro versions have more paint apps.
Granted Takara's version is accurate to the game but man.......blah.

gothsaurus wrote:Whaaa? Hasbro versions never have MOAR paint apps. Takara's are always higher budget and more paint apps. (Anyone know any exceptions to this?)
Generations preceptor the Hasbro version got the chrome treatment.

And that's the case here. Takara gave them the more expensive super shiny and more game-accurate paint while forgoing some of the more spotty, random paint apps that Hasbro used. Then they added even more paint details like in the forehead crests.gothsaurus wrote:Whaaa? Hasbro versions never have MOAR paint apps. Takara's are always higher budget and more paint apps.

Reveal the Shield Perceptor may have had chrome, but United Perceptor was painted far more than Hasbro's. Just look at the altmodes. Hasbro's = plain, Takara's = colorful.gothsaurus wrote:Wow. Yeah, that's the only example I can think of. That must have been Takara Hasbro opposites day.
Though, an example of Hasbro toys having more paint than Takara's would be the entire Prime Arms Micron line from Takara vs. Hasbro's Prime Robots in Disguise line.

gothsaurus wrote:Thanks for the reminders! I KNEW there was something in the back of my head — the whole Prime line. Sure glad you're around, Sabrblade.
Yep, and thank GOODNESS they aren't doing those stickers or microns any more. Beast Hunters will be sticker free for Takara !
No more Hasbro PRiD/BH toys for me, Takara all the way .
My entire BBTS list of preorders now officially consists of Takara and third party products, not a single Hasbro figure on preorder, and if things keep going the way they've been, it's going to remain that way permanently.
