I blame MTMTE for not letting me like Getaway.
Looking forward to seeing how Hot Rod works. Doublecross/Twinferno I'm ambivalent, mainly because I'm not into the Monsterbots.

No hollowness, either. I'm getting Cybertron/Universe 2008 vibes!

Want. So much want. Might get this guy for my office desk.

+ Star Wars-y space ship mode with minimal robot parts
+ color matches with Terri-Bull (or at least it's close enough)
+ handsome robot mode with a transformation step I can't immediately figure out just by looking at photos (it seems simple, but the cockpit-torso, nosecone, and legs don't look like they ought to be were they are)
+ Decepticon
Yup, definitely gonna get Triggerhappy
Shouldn't Getaway have dark grey?

That was what sold me, its all I need in a toy to be sold on it. Bought on sight (with rainchecks)!

Highbrow is a retool of Scourge, who also has this problem. So I don't think you have a lemon, you have what we have. There is an easy fix though.

Interesting. I've got three Hasbro Scourges and one Takara Scourge. The Takara one is fine. One of the Hasbro ones is fine, one is a little loose, and the remaining one is a bit looser still, but none are as bad as this Highbrow. Would you point me towards the fix?

I really am looking forward to Triggerhappy. I am loving the whole wave so far save Getaway and will be getting so many of these guys. Plus, I think we can all agree Triggerhappy is not a retool of Highbrow. I don't think he can be. The arms are the only thing that look similar

I can't remember where exactly, but it involves cutting a old credit card (or something like it: gift card, old debit card, etc.) and sticking it into the sides on the outside of the headmaster slot. Also, I see you went the way of three hasbro Sweeps and Takara Scourge. Good call.

Even in Japan did Getaway's counterpart Lightfoot look even more plain with his windows no longer red, and his faceplate the same gray as his helmet, in the cartoon:

Thanks for the tip. I've got an idea of what the problem is now, so I might be able to improvise something a little different if the trick you mentioned doesn't work. Right now, I'm also using Takara's Unite Warriors Cyclonus with a couple of Hasbro Combiner Wars Cyclonuses as his "Armada." They all look great together with Hasbro's Titans Return Galvatron (who is borrowing the Head Master, hip pieces, and cannon from Takara's Transformers Legends Galvatron).

The problem with Hasbro's Titan's Return Getaway is that he needs a bit more paint. He's a rather lazy effort for a straight up repaint (not retool) of Chromedome with a different Titan Master face. If they had added some red paint to the shins and some blue paint to the arms, Getaway would look much better in robot mode.

I'm not even sure Takara would make a Lightfoot out of this given their track record of ignoring certain mold redecos/retools and the fact that this mold doesn't even look that much like the classic Getaway/Lightfoot design that the Japanese audience is familiar with (as it's more obviously Chromedome's body in Getaway colors than anything).william-james88 wrote:The problem with getaway is that he is already simple a redeco. Oh I get that, and hence why I find this product just such an odd man out. You have a line that is just knocing it out of the park and even swaying the most die hard fans with adding or changing gimicks to characters that didnt have them, and then you get this toy which just doesnt really evoke the character its trying to be. All I mean is that as much as takara isnt sold on this figure, neither am I. At least for Alpha Trion, it looks totally unlike anything we know but they made him interesting. And even characters like CW Hound, Prowl or Mirage, which were more opportunistic releases, at least hasbro did something interesting with them, making the toys feel like their namesake (especially Hound) and look interesting in both modes. Its just not the case here. At least, I dont feel its the same.

People like to throw around this bullsh|t like it's some sort of justification, when, really, it's just a pathetic excuse to allow has/tak to get away with a minimalist, cheap deco
If hasbro was really trying to aim for a 'classic' look, where is the blue on the arms that would break up the deco? The red on the lower legs to break up his deco? The highlights on the car mode (like lights, or painted rims - something) to make him feel worthwhile? His whole upper torso just blends together into a mass of creamy-white plastic and ruins the figure, Will's right he is literally a repainted body, with a new face, gotta make him seem worthwhile to people

I do like the red and yellow applications on the chest as that's a pretty smart re-invention of the original toy's red windshield with the 'RACING' banner on the top, but the rest of the deco is just... so bland. I'll be getting him eventually because, again, MTMTE; but I REALLY wish we got better. He's not even out and I'd argue he's one of the worst things the line has put out so far despite the nice headsculpt.

Interesting, do you think it beats ravage and/or stripes?
PS: I actually think the buzzsaw/lazerbeak mold is perfectly fine for what it is.

I'm right there with you. I though TH was a retool of HB, but I can barely see it. I pulled up HB's gallery and really only the arms look the same and they are heavily retooled - that is some serious black magic they are pulling over there.D-Maximus_Prime wrote:I really am looking forward to Triggerhappy. And it seems they ran out of it with Getaway/Breakaway; what is its official name anyaway? I really like the IDW character until I didn't, but I still wouldn't mind a good toy of him. This is just too boring to justify another trip down that mold's tired, redeco'd, retooled, heavily worn road. Maybe if the deco would have been spectacular, just maybe
I'm trying to stick to just one version of a mold for TR, but I'll pick up both HB and TH if they every show their mugs in these parts.

I dont think that wuld be breaking your rule in any way. Just like picking up both Alpha trion and Broadside wouldnt be breaking your rule. The molds are different but some parts are reused. At this point, I dont see much difference between reusing a foot/hand or reusing a wheel. If the transformation/robot mode/alt mode are all different from eachother, then its a different toy to me.

It's a bit harder to fairly compare since I don't have Ravage yet (I have Chromedome so I felt I could fairly judge Breakaway based on what we see here), but he doesn't look too bad and I've heard people like him better in hand. At the very least the Takara version looks absolutely beautiful from the stock photos.

Who said anything about being fair? Plus its all about what we want to buy with our limited funds and thats related to how good a toy is (as one of the factors). So Deadput, which of those three toys would you rather spend money on or at least prioritize your spending on?

No you can still fairly judge it.
If you're going by pure content and size then of course a Deluxe is always going to be better than a Legends. ... unless it's CW Shockwave vs Armada Sideswipe.
But the question here would more be; is Breakaway for what he is worse than Ravage for what he is? I guess an easier way to put it would be, like... if a Deluxe has 30 points and a Legends has 15 points (as an allegory to the Deluxe being bigger with more gimmicks and things to do with it), then if Ravage is 12/15 and Breakaway is 18/30, I wouldn't say Breakaway is better. Because Ravage has managed to score 80% while Breakaway has only managed 60%. Hopefully that didn't sound too confusing, but the point here is that it's not directly comparing the figures but rather their value.

I know I can fab my own pin, and I may be able to fix the shoulder. I actually like his base mode. It's pretty funny how much alike it is to the OG Power Master Prime. There is a lot of real estate (read: surface area) to play on. I will snap some shots once I get some time to play and connect the bases. Heck I like all three modes, and there are some really nice details. Like how his neck turns into the seat for the TM.

I would say it's not unreasonable due to the different colour and different name to discount him as Getaway entirely and consider him as "Breakaway" and that said Breakaway is then in your head cannon based on the Movie toy / Cybertron Mould toy of some years ago.
I just thought i'd offer that idea to those put off by not liking him as they don't like the comic character or the toys lack of resemblance to that character they don't like his lack of resemblance to G1 Getaway.
I would have liked the Titanmaster's chest to be red for example (I don't know if it is or not).
As for the "Reason" to buy him - I will say the previous Breakaway and Getaways has some bearing on that - but really it's just completeism and
the use of his duplicate guns combined with having more Titanmaster mini-figures is always going to be useful. So it's play value that would be a factor with that buying decision with Triggerhappy it would because there are so few Decepticons these days as well as I like the look of him, and his alt mode it great. as well as the play value of his Titanmaster, the starfighter mode and the - wrist-guns. as well as the hope they will make Misfire as well.
I would presume most Child purchases will be simply as they like the car or the look of him - as he lacks any name recognition not even Getaway's minimal name recognition he would get from the original toy and any comic appearances.
As 'Breakaway' the general kid-buying public will have to judge him on his merit as a figure - as they do when they see Crocodile-bot, Wolf-bot, Bat-bots and so one alike I guess.
I don't mind him having another name - I do have a tendency to call Blue-Bluestreak by his Bluestreak name and the silver one by the "Silverstreak" name as it's convenient for example.

Thing is though it's not necessarily because Breakaway is a bad representation of his fictional self. I'll still buy a toy if it looks great enough - hell, one of the toys I'm most excited for is Triggerhappy, who... I think was in a few scenes of Rebirth? I'm definitely not buying him because he's a character I love, I'm buying him because holy hell that toy looks amazing.
Breakaway just has nothing going for him. Chromedome is a far better use of the mold, not to mention that even if we didn't get this mold before in the toyline the engineering was used a billion times in CW. It's a boring, bland toy in almost every respect.

I also agree with Kurona's sliding/judging scale to even the score between size classes. I feel Getaway is better than Ravage just because I don't care much for the TR kitty mold. It does what it needs to do and some of it works very well, just to wide and flat for my taste.
