Thanks to Facebook user Sam Robertz we have in hand images of Takara Tomy MP-36 Golden Lagoon Megatron. You can see him in all his shiny glory in the images below. If you are curious why this Megatron figure is gold, you may want to look up the G1 Episode entitled "The Golden Lagoon".

If you are a fan of Masterpiece figures, we have what might be the first image of MPM Barricade.

I'm a bit disappointed with the gray pieces.

When are they going to transform him into the golden gun? For me, that's one figure I would have sent off for grading and never opened.

I'd be worried about this Megatron being brittle based on the gold plastic.

No, he won't be brittle, as it's gold paint, not gold plastic. The paint might be brittle, though.

Also, is it really an homage to "The Golden Lagoon", or is it just part of the Japanese obsession with chromed and clear figures?

Tbh I’m waiting for them to do both in one figure.

Ah yes, one of the most obscenely complex Transformers in recent history, with well-documented paint scuffing and tolerance issues, covered entirely in gold vaccuum metalized chrome, a material known for fragility and affecting tolerances. Genius, Takara!

I hope it’s made from the same plastic as transmetal 2 megatron!

The latter, as it's a Lucky Draw figure.

I know this is a sore subject.. even for me, owning the MP-10 Hasbro version.. But shouldn't a third party, or Takara offer maybe some leg replacements for MP-10? I don't need a new bot, just a set of new legs to make Prime and Megs more compatible and look better next to each other. Here is an example.. it's just the lower legs or if you like the entire legs could be replaced, depends on the easiest place to do the mod on the bot. I'm not opposed to using a screw driver. I just don't want to do much more then that. I would love to get a new set of legs, and forego a new bot, As long as the legs can fit both bot mode, and alt (truck) mode with no issues, and allows the trailer to move naturally, then I think I would be satisfied with the Hasbro Prime I have already. It wasn't too bad changing out the doors on my Ironhide for the Dr. Wu replacements.

I don't know, since this is the official thread, do you guys think MP-10 will be getting an update in the future, or possibly Takara Tomy will offer legs for order? doubt a big company takes the time to do accessories like these Third parties are doing for the fans. You'd think a company dedicated to toy sales and production, like Bandai does with Gundam fans, would nurture and listen to fans and give them little things that these Third party companies are doing, which makes you feel engaged, taken care of, and appreciated as a fan and customer.

Anyhow, the Mods to the figure would look like this..

Image

Not really on a rant here, but I think if Hasbro and Takara took more of a Fan centric sales approach to the market, fostering fan conventions, accessory ordering, stickers and Backdrops for Transformers collectors, official cases, stands, etc.. etc.. I would feel much more catered to as a fan and as a customer with money to dispose of on their products. If these Industry giants want to maintain an edge over their third party competitors, they should stop being so smug and elitist and start actually listening and try to cater to their collector base, rather then drop new stuff on new costumers, and throw a bone (halfassed sometimes looking at you MPM-04!) and they need to above all else LISTEN to fans concerns and be more supportive. I know there are Has/Tak defenders who are gonna hate on me for this post, but look at to what the third party market is able to do, and has done for fans. If Tak/Has hired actual fans to do their figures, and could engineer brilliance under budget, why not give them the keys to the kingdom and let us start beating the third party with quality so called "industry Professional" manufacturing, and Figures that cater to the fansbase as well as new kids and customers.

I know, it's collecting.. it's not a big deal, but I just think it would be nice to see a little more attention to the collector community. A new pair of legs and instructions for MP-10 Hasbro or Takara Tomy versions would be a nice way to start..

Just Saying.. :BOT:

I never really thought height was the issue with MP-10 and in your pic he now looks taller than Megatron. My problem with the legs was the wheel covers, they should have been able to hide the wheels inside the legs instead of trying to cover them up. I do think it's a matter of time before we do see a new Prime done closer to the cartoon style to go with the rest of the cartoon modeled figures they've been making, but that may be a while, like MP-50.

I don't think MP-10 needs longer legs, buuut I'd love if the wheels could be stored completely inside the legs. Hasui said that he could have easily come up with a way to do it -- but ultimately decided the pockets were a good compromise as far as durability and ease of transformation.

Personally, I think official upgrade-kits are unlikely. Takara might get blamed for deliberately making the toys less than perfect so they could sell you a kit later. I think an MP Convoy v3 is more likely, eventually.

MP-10 is still my favourite! :) I'm pleased with all the MPs so far, except for Red Alert.

Ugghhhh!! If that's the case, I'll be 90 years old by then! See that's what I am talking about, the Third party market says, see a need and fill a need, like the slogan from Robots. I wish the Industry "Professionals" would get behind that philosophy and produce for the fans..

On a side note tho.. I am pretty happy I bought the original MP-36. I paid allot for it, yes. The KO's with improvements and better price point are nice, but on MP-36, it's the best MP to date IMHO. So I think the price I paid was justified. The quality is there, and I enjoy my Megatron. I just wish there was some way to salvage my MP-10 and get a new set of legs, official would be nice. I could care less about getting another bot.

Yea, I see what you mean, the legs do look better without the wheel pocket. What if they did the legs more Anime esque, and captured it perfectly like the feet on MP-36.. that would look great on the bot. I have to disagree tho, while the legs should be taller so the crotches match, Prime would be slightly taller then Megs, but only by a few inches, and in the cartoon, it always looked to me, at least, that Prime was about the same height. If he's just a smidge above Megs with longer Legs, I could live with that..it's a Matrix height thing.. (See Hot Rod height increase 1986 Movie).

The MPs are the same height (like in the cartoon) but MP-36 Megatron has a bigger head, so his eyes are higher. I think if they were to make a new MP Convoy he would be even more cartoon-accurate than MP-10.

(The Matrix didn't change him or Magnus, just Hot Rod, cause he was small.)

They do look great together I think --

There's a bunch of KO MP-10 with longer legs and I always see this --

This is probably one of the best figures to ever come from Takara Tomy, worth paying for its original figure. Sure the KOs are coming and offer additions, but the original is worth it. A very satisfying figure.

I'd agree.......uf it wasn't for the paint chipping/scratching issue.

Call me unreasonable, but at 200+ bucks, it's unacceptable.

I just watched a video review. Looks like the silencer barrel has a plug that fits into the gun barrel proper. I wonder if there's a way to scoop out the silencer plug as a mod? Haven't used the stock and silencer yet.

You can take out the plug, but it just makes the barrel extender lose, which causes more scratching.

A lot late to the game but I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a Megatron (along with Starscream, Shockwave, and Reflector/Spotter) and the BBTS plug is in there pretty tight. I didn't think it was glued in? I did go through the thread and no one else seems to have had any problem getting the plug out of the barrel. What the dealio?

People will always complain about everything! Heck, iirc one complaint was that the 1st issue was already chipping off the box by just looking at him funny!

Mine btw, still unchipped since April 2017. Not risking to use those extensions of his.

Jeez louise! I answered zodconvoy's inquiry on the what's the deal 8-}

If it isn't the price point (too expensive etc) it's something else (item off color, not anime accurate, not toy accurate, paint chipping off by just looking at it etc). That's the deal!

I didn't call him (zodconvoy) a complainer.

For the price point. These products are just for overgrown man children with too much disposable income in their hands. I don't think we have the right to complain given that a certain company plays upon our sense of nostalgia to get as much blood from our wallets.

If R and D and the primary cost (coupled with the materials used, franchising fees, packaging and distribution) have gone up then you have but two options. Buy or not buy.

Never heard 3rd company adopters complaining about the price.

".......paint chipping off just out of the box........"

You wont see reviews of the reissue. Since they are usually just straight reissues and newer releases get much more hits, youtubers and reviewers dont cover them (plus its expensive to have 2 to compare for what should be the same figure). We might get a picture showing if there is indeed a change but at that point everyone who ordered it would already have it.

Makes sense, Will. I was going to wait to see what the general consensus might be, but I had pre-ordered from HLJ back in August....and I couldn't hold back on the spending trigger-finger.

Part of me considered the KO, simply because there's no way I could keep him MISB -- but he's so G1 cartoon perfect, I had to thank Takara for delivering. :CON:

You wont see reviews of the reissue. Since they are usually just straight reissues and newer releases get much more hits, youtubers and reviewers dont cover them (plus its expensive to have 2 to compare for what should be the same figure). We might get a picture showing if there is indeed a change but at that point everyone who ordered it would already have it.
I wouldn't completely outrule it Will. It's one of the main complaints with the figure. If there's a change made, and the chipping is solved, I bet there's at least one Youtuber that'll cover it.

FINALLY

For some reason paranoia struck and I had to be sure he was not a KO -- he's 100% real ;)^ :CON:

He is a lot of fun! The most complex TF I own, but so worth it.

It took a long time coming, but now I too can say I am a doubter turned believer. I still have no regrets in having waited this long, it was worth it in case this figure wouldnt have turned out that great. And him being so pupular, the reissue made it so that I could still preorder it at those japanese sites and get it at the best price possible.

I am just late to the game is all. And I will say that my only issue is that after having handled him and posed him, those odd zigzaggy designs on his crotch dont add so much articulation to be worthwhile, compared to how much they take away in a visual aspect.

But anyway, this is me having fun with him

Just checking what I can do with my new MP 36 Megatron.

Congrats, Will! MP-36 is incredible!

Can't say that the zigzag pattern bothers me in the slightest. (And I appreciate that it's done this way rather than one piece like Hot Rod.)

BTW, have you transformed him yet?
