I would much rather get a new mold entirely than another repaint or slight retool.

Maybe a 3rd party will jump on Victory Leo
Speculation but I believe Tomy will have to build one.The smaller sword blade and smaller nosecone are indeed meant to be the blade and hilt for a smaller sword for Saber to wield, while the bigger blade and bigger nosecone are the blade and hilt for the Saber Blade wielded by Star Saber in his "Battle Up!" form.chuckdawg1999 wrote:I may have asked this before but what's up with the short sword blade? Only time they did was with the Masterpiece Offshoot Targetmaster that came with Hasbro's Rodimus, but that figure only vaguely resembled Firebolt at all, much less how he looked in the cartoon.Ironhidensh wrote:I'm kinda sad. First Masterpiece I have no desire to get (that isn't a repaint). Makes my wallet happy I guess. Probally because I known thing of this character and have no attachment whatsoever.
I'd like to see the results of a Hasbro MP fan poll.
Well, the fans better make sure to get Starsaber sold out else there's no incentive to make one (V Leo)for Tomy.
This btw is addressed to all fans out there.........support the 1st party first fellas. Sure a few years wait would kill us but in the end, an official upgrade is better over a 3rd.
Supply and demand. Demand is for the 3rd party product. Hasbro/Takara have made clear they are not interested in producing figures of that detail level. Why should the consumer not support they 3rd party that is actually givng them what they want?
This is for the Starsaber mold to ensure that there is an incentive for Tomy to make one. In the end, it's still the bottom line.........profit for the company which in turn makes us FANS happy. I thought you would have noticed my point in the last sentence.
And again, like in another thread in the United Warrior line, Tomy don't care what the gaijin market says hence they ditched AB. Star Saber in your opinion would be a waste of MP slot but he was born out of the "demand" of Japanese fans who actually buy stuff no matter how absurdly expensive.
There's the demand and Tomy answered with the "supply". Also, in this regard, this is a big risk for Tomy but the poll results would more or less offset the concerns of the investors.

The repaints fund the ability to get new molds, and most of the repaints (barring some of the Op stuff) have been taken directly from the original fiction, so I'm 100% OK with them.

When the article came out the other day with Hisashi Yuki, he did say that he couldn't proceed with Victory Leo until TT said so, but he never said anything about not being able to make Star Saber compatible for that down the road....
I'm so psyched for this- I've already sold my G1 version to make room, and I'm counting the days. Now if I just knew what the fate of Exhaust will be, and if my existing preorder will be cancelled or not... March is going to be a nail biter.

If I remember correctly, it was a listing of Autobot leaders from Fortress Maximus to present, excluding original Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime, as they've been done, and he's hardly obscure, as he's insanely popular in Japan. And he's awesome.

Not the hanging "chads" again
Contrary to your singular belief that the world revolves around you, there are others who think otherwise. Especially the Japanese as seen in how they aced off A-B in theier Unite Warriors line.
Even the anime Headmasters onwards to Return of Convoy, the Japanese did it their way.

Star Saber's Magic Mushroom. See also: Armada Overload, but Leo becomes leg armor (Okay, lets be honest, be turns into shoes) and a wing pack.
Can I ask a dumb question? Why is this still getting newsed? Haven't we documented every screw hole and bit of flash already? Not that I'm not excited for SS, but the only "In Hand" I want to see now is MINE.

I was speaking on the third party business in general, not just this figure. They are putting out figures that Hasbro/Takara have no intention of, so why wait?
As for this figure, I've stated several times that I understand Starsaber is big in Japan. I get that. My complaint is that Hasbro won't put the same time and effort into the masterpiece line. We won't get a fan poll in America. It's a problem in all big American corporations. Focusing only on what will sell the most to the most and cost the least to make, ignoring everything else and never taking a chance.

And I was talking about Star Saber. Since this is about SS. No argument there. As for the industry in general, give the first party incentive then the products will come. If they release sh#tty products like MP Rodimus Convoy/Hotrodimus, by all means reject 'em.
I am not against 3rd party products but that discussion should be in another thread.

Im sorry to never have ventured into the world of subtitles and voice actors that all sound the same. That list of characters might be a list of gods in Japan, but where Im from its obscure, pointblank. And yeah Takara axed Alpha Bravo, I said that. Im not sure how thats relevant to my question, but yeah it does show they got a lot of G1 love out there in Japan. Which makes me wonder if the Japanese fans would have prefered one of the characters I named rather than some character that came out when G1 was coming to an end.

You are missing the point that G1 carried on for quite a few more seasons in Japan. Over there, Starsaber and those other characters listed are as G1 as Prime, Ironhide, and Jazz are here.

That I know. But there’s a reason those "G1" episodes never succeeded in the West. Even when voice dubbed like they did for the Headmasters, watching those cartoons is a total culture shock. Plagued with voice actors that all sound the same, annoying voltron like recycled transformation clips, and horrible storylines like "Grand Galvatron". So to many westerners, the Japanese episodes were the final nail in the coffin for G1. Im not speaking for everyone, but surely many people from the US like myself have downloaded them out of pure curiosity, and were not impressed.

Well when you quoted me, it came off as you were only talking to me, even if that wasnt how you meant it. Alleging others are calling me out on a "limited" or "restrained" mindset could be percieved as an insult in its own right I reckon. Id rather classify it as calling me out on a different opinion if you dont mind.

...it was a Japanese exclusive but its still part of transformers g1 even it was only in japan but i love that they made a masterpiece figure for him
Posted by Sabrblade on March 4th, 2015 @ 11:50am CST
It's not that they didn't "succeed" in the West. It's simply that they never aired on TV in the West at all. Hasbro at the time had no interest in bringing over the Japanese shows after the American G1 cartoon itself had already died. The Rebirth ended with just its three episodes since networks were no longer interested in the Transformers cartoon. Had the American show been able to continue, it would have. And had the American show continued, Japan wouldn't have had to create its own cartoons. But since the American show died off, Japan wanted more and so went and created their own shows. But we in the West didn't get what they made because Transformers was dead as far as American television was concerned. It would have been too costly for Hasbro to import, redub, and air the Japanese cartoons since they'd lose more money from those shows than they would have earned.Rated X wrote:That I know. But there’s a reason those "G1" episodes never succeeded in the West.
Thankfully, the G1 comics were still going strong at the time, but I digress.
As for the list of choices to vote on that Star Saber won against, 7 of those 11 characters are mainstream American characters since one of those seven is Fortress freakin' Maximus, one of them is Powermaster Optimus Prime's Japanese counterpart (who basically looks just like Prime), and the other five are all the Optimuses from Beast Wars, Robots in Disguise (2001), Armada, Energon, and Cybertron; all of which were successful mainstream cartoons that aired on American television from 1996-2006. Only the remaining four of the choices can really be considered obscure characters, as far as casual fans are concerned.
And hey, if Star Saber hadn't won, the winner would have been the non-G1 Transformers: Armada Optimus Prime, who came in second place. So those who want the MP line to stay G1-only, be glad that the winner was a G1 dude.

It sure is a testament to our times though isn't it? Not only is this kind of promotion unprecedented, but when you think about it why wouldn't they? It's not like TF Yuki is paying for add space every time he dropped new pics on Twitter. They'd be silly not to take advantage of such free media outlets.

Yuki has gone to great lengths to think of the arm articulation regardless of the awkward high shoulders, the thigh area looks (from what we've seen) to have more than enough clearance for dynamic posing and the overall playability of the whole toy is what you'd want from this size and price point. He also follows the anime proportions to a T.
Magnus is just...missing something.
Sure, the transformation is quite clever with the cab and all but once you get over the initial amazement of the cab going origami style...he kinda just stands there......am I the only who feels he is too static and no fun?

Yuki has gone to great lengths to think of the arm articulation regardless of the awkward high shoulders, the thigh area looks (from what we've seen) to have more than enough clearance for dynamic posing and the overall playability of the whole toy is what you'd want from this size and price point. I'm really sorry you feel that way. I think Magnus was an out of the park home run. I love his heft, and how sturdy he is. I think it goes very well with the stoic nature of his character.
In reference to the pic, that should put to rest any question of who MP-24 will be.

Hip swivel? Given the design that would have been hard to implement.

Small mold MPs are ok in alternate mode, I kinda prefer the small boxes for those, saves storage room, but a full size MP ought to come packaged ready in its most glorious form and a big beautiful box!
Anyway...

Agreed. I love my Ultra Magnus. He stands heroically amongst my MP Autobots...the way it should be. The only thing he "lacks" is hip-swivel, and that is very easy to overlook.
I think Star Saber is an awesome figure, but since I have no real connection to the character, so I'm (still) not getting one. It's tough, though.

Haha, I thought I'd be alone on this. No worries folks. Magnus isn't a bad figure, I guess I just see potential wasted. A few extra pushes or that little extra time on the drawing board would have made such a difference. To stay on topic, that's what I see in Star Sabre; a figure that was, design wise, pushed to it's limit leaving no stone un-turned. I suppose what SS has in his favour of course is how the original toy was no different to his animation model, so I guess Yuki had the advantage of updating existing engineering, leaving more room for refinement.
My own opinion of course, but Star Sabre has that play-ability I like, it justifies that price point and the giant package it comes in. My bank Balance hates me but I am truly looking forward to him. I'm just not prepared for the hit right now and he has crept up on me real fast.

Normally I'd agree but I think Star Saber is a special exception since its full robot mode is a combination of several gimmicks that should be experienced first.

For the 20th Anniversary, Takara made MP-1 Convoy (20th Anniversary Optimus Prime)
For the "Welcome to Transformers 2010" promotion that honored the 1986 movie and the G1 cartoon's third season (which was dubbed in Japanese as "Transformers 2010"), Takara made MP-9 Rodimus Convoy (Rodimus Prime).
For the 25th Anniversary, one could suggest MP-8 Grimlock as possible candidate for celebrating that year, since he was an Autobot leader in the Marvel comics and Takara even made that MP-8X King Grimlock figure based on Marvel Grimlock.
So with Optimus and Rodimus, and even Grimlock, already done, that takes care of the first two Autobot leaders of the 1980s in both the cartoon and comics, so Takara kinda had to go with a later Autobot leader for the 30th Anniversary. And I'd say leaving it to the fans to vote on it was a nice move.
