I don't understand these statues and non transforming action-figure styled releases. They're unbound by the limits of engineering yet they so often look worse than a fully fledged transforming figure...

Imaginarium Art has posted a new picture of one of its upcoming projects that was announced over a year ago, this time as the form of Rodimus Prime! Rodimus Prime is seen in the new picture holding up the Matrix, as he did when he became a Prime. The figure is rumored to have 2 additional poses and is supposed to be as posable as the recent Ultra Magnus statue. You can check out the image below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

Just out of curiosity does anyone on this forum buy these statues or any of the other expensive TF statues around? I'm wondering how profitable they actually are cos they do seem a very niche item.

Practically every one of these statues are gorgeous but definitely out of my price range. BBTS sold out of the Unicron statue pre-order and that thing was going for $799!

Looks a bit weird to me. The chest for example. And I've never been fond of over-exagerrating his spoiler wings like that cos they'd look just silly in alt-mode.

It was only a matter of time before statue-makers Imaginarium Art took their shot at a G1 styled Optimus Prime. Thanks to their Facebook page, we have a colour image of the product which includes an open chest with an exposed Matrix of Leadership, his trailer and his done companion Roller! The release date has yet to be determined. Imaginarium Art stated "Purchase order hasn't begun yet. We'll post announcements as soon as he's ready." They also stated Optimus Prime "... is currently in the factory" and "Pricing not determined yet. Should be known by October." Stay tuned to Seibertron.com for additional information and details about this exciting product. Check out the image below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub forums.

A person that can afford one of these most certainly would already have MP-10 or at least have passed over that option. People don't usually buy statues as an alternative to figures (though the opposite may be true doe to the price). They usually buy them as a display piece with better detailing and paint.

That's a fair point. I'd love to be on that upper echelon of TF collecting. Everything else aside the statue does looks amazing, something for MPs to strive for perhaps, ha. This is just a statue and has no articulation right?

Starscream is the treacherous Decepticon Air Commander and the deadliest of the Seekers. The self-proclaimed pride of the Cybertron War Academy, he's famous not only for his incredible skill, but also for his limitless (and troublesome) ambition. Starscream believes that he is more suited for command than Decepticon leader Megatron. Thankfully for Megatron, Starscream's mutinous, power-grabbing plots are almost always transparent, and he can never muster up enough patience to complete a grandiose power play. Even on the few times he has taken command of the Decepticons, he quickly loses control of a situation, but is too arrogant to realize when he's in over his head. He never learns from his mistakes, but then again, Megatron doesn't either, seeing as how he's never turned Starscream into slag. Despite his constant failures, Starscream believes it is only a matter of time before he prevails—his destiny is inevitable.
Starscream's never-give-up attitude extends even to the afterlife: unlike most Transformers, he has a mutant, indestructible spark. His life-force cannot be destroyed and can persist even without a body to contain it. However, there is no indication that Starscream (or anybody else) was aware of this fact prior to his destruction.

Imagination Art has unveiled a brand new version of one of their most recent Transformers statues, Coronation Starscream! This new variant will be exclusive to the upcoming Shanghai Comic Con, as well as limited to 30 total pieces. There doesn't seem to be that much of a difference between the two, if this early photo is of any reference, but more differences will probably be shown in the coming days! No price is given on their post on Weibo, but it's guaranteed to be one of the pricier pieces available at the show.

They also share that they will be hosting a panel on painting/repainting Transformers figures at the con.

Wow. This is heavily influenced by Maketoys Giant. Which is fine by me. He's still probably my favorite 3P Devastator. (To be fair, I have not seen Toyworld in person and that looks very impressive as well.)

Hilarious how it's essentially Giant Type-61. People always say Hasbro should just use the 3rd party molds to recoup lost income. And lo and behold... they finally did it. In yo face Maketoys.
Re: Imaginarium Art Licensed Transformers Devastator Renders (1918488)
Posted by Evil Eye on October 26th, 2017 @ 12:51pm CDT
OK, it's basically Maketoys' Giant. Not that Maketoys probably cares, as the people who want a fully transformable, poseable, not-garbage Devastator are not necessarily going to be in the market for a farcically expensive enormous statue. Though given that it's a known fact that HasTak and 3Ps are actually covertly quite chummy, and IIRC MT's main designer has done contractual work for Takara before, I wouldn't be surprised if Maketoys themselves had a hand in this. Which wouldn't be a bad thing at all as their stuff is absurdly good. Seriously HasTak, swallow your pride and openly make them licensees.

Though I will say, if MT ISN'T happy about this, my rotten heart would be filled with glee if they took Imaginarium/Hastak to court and won. It might just very well signal the beginning of the end of the ridiculous US IP law system.

Actually, they didn't use the molds. They used the base design but the tooling is 100% original. If they HAD used the molds and reproduced Maketoys' Giant wholesale, then A: that would be seriously scummy of them, and B: it could land them in hot water.

also not sure how that would land em in hot water..... they own devastator. that would be like "you copied our design !" hasbro: "ya, and we copied a design you made of a character we made, and your design isn't even licensed"

Three things here:
1: Maketoys, despite not creating the character of Devastator, DID create that specific design of Devastator, and engineered/tooled it themselves. Had Giant been a barely-altered KO of an existing figure then maybe, but at absolute best it would be morally dubious to profit off their work so directly.
2: Technically, their figure isn't Devastator, as HasTak/IP law apologists will harp on about endlessly. So when Hasbro says "You made an unlicensed Devastator!" they can quite rightfully reply "No, we made our own design called Giant". Whilst one might argue this is ethically unsound, if you're going to go down the "letter of the law above common sense" road then again, it all checks out. Though given that (at least IMO) trying to stamp out the 3P scene is equivalent to trying to stamp out people making and selling fanart (that is, incredibly scummy and not a good idea) then HasTak is STILL in the wrong.
3: Maketoys, like many 3P countries, operates out of China, and as such is basically immune from HasTak's lawyers. If they even tried to go after the 3P market, they'd not only most likely lose, but they'd probably lose exclusive rights to the Transformers brand. Whether or not you agree with that being a good thing is up to you, but I would just like to point out that the US copyright system is only in the ridiculous state it is today because a certain mouse-loving corporation refuses to allow a nearly hundred-year-old cartoon to go into the public domain.

Now I doubt that HasTak and Maketoys will come to blows because again, it's a known fact that HasTak and 3Ps are fairly chill with each other and have numerous "gentlemen's agreements" but if sparks DID fly it wouldn't be that cut and dried.

actually, maketoys is one of the very few 3p company that, while the product stamp itself said made in china, the company itself is located in japan. which means, whiel they are out of hasbro's reach, takara could actually pull something off. altough takara so far sees no reason to sue them, as they didn't hurt the official market that much. and as long as maketoys don't sue them for this giant-inspired devy, there's no reason for takara to make a move. and i don't think maketoys will do that either. they are not stupid to wake a sleeping tiger.

I don't think Maketoys has a leg to stand on. I mean not only is Giant obviously inspired by Devy, but this statue shares no actual moulding with Giant. It just looks like him, same way Giant looks like Devy.

As someone who own Giant and pairs him with the official Combiner Wars stuff, I think it's cool that it's look inspired this.
