TRANSFORMERS LEGACY: A CELEBRATION OF TRANSFORMERS PACKAGE ART

Jim Sorenson, Bill Forster (w)

Remember the thrill of tearing open the wrapping on Christmas morning, discovering a brand new TRANSFORMERS toy in a shiny new box? Transformers: Legacy collects hundreds of beautifully airbrushed paintings from the iconic first decade of The Transformers. Essays and interviews from the original illustrators give unprecedented insight into the process behind the art. This book is chocked full of extras, including never before seen artwork from toys that never were, original design sketches, catalog artwork, and more.

Bullet points:

• The Transformers art book that you've been waiting for all these years! From the archives of Hasbro, Takara and private collectors!

Autobot Megatron, Wha?????

And that Windburn TF that the fans supposedly created is goofy looking. That is the best we could come up with? That's embarrassing.....definitely skipping the Generations toy. There is no way an alien from a planet millions of light years away is going to chose the ascetic look of a female Japanese warrior. I mean come on.

I'm not that far yet.

And nobody knows yet. These teasers are farther ahead from where even the comics currently are.

Autobot Megatron huh?

OMG if Megatron is going to be on the Lost Light with the rest of the crew then OOOOOOOOOOOOH BOY! I smell a SITCOM!

Though, sadly, I do beleive this HAS to be some sort of sick trick Megatron has planned for something. We all remember what happened when he surrendered himself back around Chaos, right? Ya, that lasted a few issues...

I can't stop thinking of exciting possibilities with Megatron joining MTMTE. I really want Whirl, Rodimus, and Swerve to survive Dark Cybertron now so we can see their interactions with him. I also want to see the DJD come after Megs for betraying his own cause.

Not Earth again. No more humans in Transformers, why would any transformer want to go back there given the last time, unless it was for revenge

Nuke the entire Solar System.

So Megatron leads the Lost Light's quest now? Guess that means Rodimus bites it then.

I really want to see Megatron get hammered together with Wirl, Rung, and Trailcutter now, with Ultra Magnus watching his every step like a hawk, twitching and getting all giddy at the thought of Megatron making one mistake so he can punch him into dust.

Honestly I wouldn't mind going back to Earth in the series, would definitely tie some loose ends. I have a feeling Spike will return and may possibly be part of the threat. Also, been awhile since we heard from Thundercracker. I don't recall if he ever left Earth.

Spike = part of the threat, calling it.

Yes and no. I would always recommend getting in at one of the 'starting points'. But there is still a lot of work that happened in previous parts of the series that might matter and change things.

Definitely recommended though, if you liked the Spotlights, everything MTMTE and RID up to Dark Cybertron, go for the trades. That's 5 volumes each.

If you can, Last Stand of the Wreckers will give you a feel for what MTMTE is trying to do, as well.

I did like the spotlights so I will have to do that. Let me ask, and this doesn't spoil anything for me, who has appeared and died so far in the series? The article said the Autobot Megatron book was a good jump on point, so I think I will start there with the most current run. Thanks, I appreciate the info! :D

Given I'm not particularly interested in reading a polemic on how we are all misogynists for liking genderless robots, Wingblade for me is DOA. I'm also having trouble believing that there is more good material to mine on Earth, especially as such effort has been made in the past to make it clear that humans don't want transformers around and don't need help in dealing with the occasional Decepticon that gets stuck there. A pity that they didn't decide to go to another planet, even Nebulos, which had a higher tech humanoid population and none of the back-story baggage. As for the death of Rodimus - lets face it, who stays dead in these comics anyway?

Yes, who is dead in the comics? Besides Dreadwing, assuming the shot in the back Shockwave gave him in his spotlight comic killed him? And Sunstreaker who was, I believe, killed in the Hoist book. That one sucked because it was a hologram or something, but it really killed Sunstreaker?

If we're talking A-list characters, not too many. C-Z listers, it's a pretty large list. As an example, off the top of my head, Scrapper, Ramjet and Thrust have been dead for quite some time now, years actually.

There are a few others... more recently.

Ratbat, Sunstorm, and Bombshell are probably the most recent examples. It's also a bit unclear if any other Insecticons (aside from Bob) are still alive.

I've been reading back through the last few years and have an alternative fate for Rodimus. At two times in the past he's avoided taking on a wider leadership role (first going off and leaving it to Bumblebee on Earth and then later going off on a quest instead of helping the consolidation on Cybertron). Most recently in the dead universe Hardhead asked him point blank would he go back to Cybertron if Optimus asked him to. Rodimus has always aspired to leadership, but lacked the maturity to take on the role. His "quest" on the lost light has helped him grow in that respect. Perhaps with Optimus deciding that he must return to Earth, he finally asks Rodimus point blank to return to Cybertron - Rodimus keeps saying (and seems to believe in) "till all are one" - which means that he might function as a unity figure for the Autobots, Decepticons, and non-aligned (consider his status in Autocracy) in a way that Bumblebee and Starscream seemed to be unable to.

Or he might end up dying to taking down Nova Prime ot Galvatron, saving Orion Pax in a reverse version of Optimus saving Hot Rod back in the G1 movie.

Those themes are in context to the comic, by listening to them you can get a feel to how Megatron will be portrait in the comic series and what he'll be about.

Can't wait to get your hands on the three, yes, three new series (or seasons) of the post-Dark Cybertron comics from IDW? Worry not, here's a sure-shot way of making sure you get that cover you really want, from your own store, as well as ensuring sales - which means more comics in the future! Authors Mairghread Scott (Windblade), John Barber (RID) and James Roberts (MTMTE) have released the pre-order codes for their respective series, all noted below - make a note and take them to your local comic store.

Mairghread Scott wrote:And I’m giving you Windblade lovers a sneak peek at the Diamond order codes (because we’re cool like that). Take these magic numbers to your local comic store and place your orders, feel like a super-spy doing it. ;)

FEB140337 E TRANSFORMERS WINDBLADE #1 (OF 4) - This gets you the Casey cover IDW was showing off here:

http://tumblr.idwpublishing.com/image/73451204525

FEB140338 E TRANSFORMERS WINDBLADE #1 (OF 4) SUBSCRIPTION VAR - This gets you Sarah’s cover (which is currently my desktop and I am in love with).

And if you want Livio’s art (and who doesn’t) you’re gonna have to work a little harder. It’s the 10-copy Retailer Incentive, so you’ll need to ask your local comic book store peeps politely to order lots of issues and give you first dibs on it. But come on, isn’t this worth it?

John Barber wrote:Diamond order codes for Transformers RID #28 (Dawn of the Autobots) are: Regular cover: FEB140331
Sub cover: FEB140332

Regular is Casey W Coller; sub is Andrew Griffith (he'll be doing the regular covers from 29 on)

James Roberts wrote:You go to your comic book store and you say you want to pre-order Regular FEB140334 E TRANSFORMERS MORE THAN MEETS EYE #28 DAWN O/T AUTOBOTS

Regular FEB140334 sports the Casey W Coller cover. It is ace. You should buy lots. Just saying.

For the Alex Milne cover, quote 'Sub FEB140335 E TRANSFORMERS MORE THAN MEETS EYE #28 SUBSCRIPTION VAR'.

Alex's cover is being withheld because SPOILERS, but look me in the eye and tell me you don't think it's going to be awesome. It IS awesome.

The teaser includes the tagline to the overall arc starting with issue #28 (due April) - Let's Make this Precious - and the song to accompany it, embedded below. Mhy a Voyager? There's already a Leader in the works.

I must have missed that. Crap.

A reissue of the Universe 2.0 figure is more likely, methinks.

I can see Hasbro announcing an Asia Exclusive 3-pack of the Classics "Datsun" brothers.

No new Classics-style/Generations Prowl toy was included the giant list of reveals.

Continuing in the build-up of teases for the new run of IDW Publishing's More Than Meets the Eye, with issue #28 hitting stores in April, regular series artist Alex Milne has tweeted his concept image for the new Autobot Megatron! Check out the mirrored image below.

Really cool, I like this more than the recent body he had in RID, although this is basically that just in the MTMTE art style.
Just this one emulates a gun alt-mode and looks less like a tank. Check out the things on his shoulders that kinda look like the hammer of a gun.
Really cool, it's going to be really interesting to see how him being on the lost light is going to play out.

Oh god, I totally missed that! I was so into the design and its symmetry that I managed to miss the missing fusion cannon.
I wonder if he just doesn't have one now, or if it's simply not in this design. I guess he won't have it on the ship as a sort of safety rule.

Oh wait, I remember now this one issue in which Tarn quotes one of Megatron's writings, in it Megatron states that he will carry his weapon until peace has finally come, and the image shows him holding the fusion cannon in two hands like an offering.
So maybe he discards it before he joins the Lost Light?

Me too. Is this upcoming voyager Megatron a new mold or a retool/redeco?

Not a Voyager, a new Leader Class mold, and apparently it's based on the idw design from RID, this one
