I guess the hero that dies is Prowl. I mean from all the characters that are listed and show up on the cover (Bumblebee, Prowl, and Rodimus) Prowl is the only one seen here defeated without glowing eyes.
Adding to that, we know Ultra Magnus, who's not on the cover as far as I can tell, that thing in the bottom kinda looks like him though, is going to die in the future. But after Drift, who's still alive. I'm referencing MTMTE #8.
So yea, Prowl's gonna bite it.

DEATH OF A HERO! BUMBLEBEE! RODIMUS! ULTRA MAGNUS! PROWL! One will fall in final battle with SHOCKWAVE!
Given the recent revelations about Ultra Magnus, is it even possible for him to die? As always I'm hoping it's Bumblebee, but I think it'd be cool if it were actually Rodimus. It'd be interesting to see if a meaningful death could perhaps heal some of the hurt fans feel towards the character for the death of Optimus back in '86.
• Whatever you’re expecting—it isn’t this!
I'm sure someone will point out why I'm wrong for thinking this way, but I'm expecting Unicron, so don't disappoint me IDW.
It's also very cool to see the box artwork from the Metroplex convention exclusives make it to a comic cover.
