Every month we get new scans from the hobby magazine Figure King which is Takara's main channel for reveals, outside of shows, and new product images. And this one might be one for the ages with the best look yet at many upcoming Masterpiece figures, one of them being Beast Wars Megatron, probably the most sought after since the line's inception. Many of these images did crop up in the corresponding figures' threads but Loopaza has now uploaded high quality images of the entire Transformers section. We see that not only did we have Masterpiece figures, but we also have new shots of the Gold Lagoon repaints and Encore Beast Wars Returns Convoy (Beast Machines Optimus Primal). There is one cool shot of the 3 Optimus Primal figures we got recently reminding us all that big bot is getting some well deserved love.

Here are the corresponding figures' if you want to join the discussion:

MP-43 Beast Wars Megatron

MP Optimus Prime 3.0

Beast Machines Optimus Primal

Gold Lagoon Figures

MP 36+ Megatron G1 Toy Deco

Power of the Primes

This month Magazine Figure King cover the coming up Masterpiece MP-43 Beast Wars Megatron in full color! All the details being shown in full and all other Transformers line up as well. And finally, the first look of the Masterpiece Optimus Prime 3.0 version!

I'm not sure I like this Optimus, his torso seems weirdly small compared to MP10

It was just over a week before SDCC 2017 when Hasbro officially announced their exclusives last year so don't be surprised if we don't hear anything this year until a week or so into July.

On topic: I'm not crazy about the gold lagoon set, but I do have to admire Takara Tomy's dedication in combining four different lines (Unite Warriors, Legends, Power of the Primes, and Masterpiece) to make this all work.

The new action figure magazine is out and the hot item this month is the Unicron of Light which is the antithesis to Armada Unicron, made up of all the minicons and their combined energy/light. While it is a representation of the same thing the Lucky Draw toy is based on, it has a very different take on the deco, which is a smart way to keep the Lucky Draw unique and collectable while offering everyone now a chance to own a representation of this being for their shelves.

We also have some shots of Masterpiece Beast Wars Megatron and of toys identical to their Hasbro counterpart like Wreck Gar and Nemesis Prime. This is indeed lighter than previous months, especially since there are fewer Transformers toys Takara is releasing differently from Hasbro. That doesn't mean Takara themselves as a company have less to offer. So, we also included more shots from this magazine, showcasing their other giant robot line, Diaclone.

These images were brought to us by the Loopaza Megastore.

Enjoy!

An update of Battle Buffalo?!?

That means the Neo-Diaclone line really is touching back on Transformers: specifically, 'Space Transformers'! Diatron 5!!!

And while I'm not crazy about every liberty taken with the design, this has me wondering just how freaky an updated Warudaros might turn out! Masterpiece Paras B!

While more high resolution scans would be fun, we wanted to share all the Transformers goodness found in the latest issue of the Figure King Magazine. While this highlights Takara releases, these are for the most part the same figures we are getting from Hasbro (including the Masterpiece toys). The one figure that so far still seems to be Takara exclusive is the Legendary Optimus Prime, which we finally have an image showing us how big it truly is.

We see an image comparing it to the voyager Evasion Mode Optimus Prime, showing it to be the size of a modern day leader class toy (or just about). Speaking of scale, we also see how big Micromasters are, which is the exact same size as the Prime Master decoy armour (so slightly bigger than their G1 counterparts). We also get a sense of how big the Power Charge Bumblebee toy is in vehicle mode.

We also see other Transformers Siege toys, but nothing that has yet to be revealed. What is curious is that the Optimus Pime we are seeing does not have weathering effects. It is unknown if that means there will be a difference between Takara and Hasbro (which would go against what we have been told) or if this is simply an early figure and the final result will be different. We have yet to see the finished product from Hasbro too, since everything we have seen of Siege was a painted model.

We also see Masterpiece Optimus Prime version 3 which highlights his articulation and backpack.

And there is more, much more, like Takara Tomy Studio Series Starcream, Movie Bumblebee and KSI Sentry, MPM-06 Ironhide, Encore Big Convoy, Studio Series DOTM Ratcher, Ironhide and Shadow Raider, PP Throne Of The Primes, Masterpiece Wheeljack, Legends Grotusque and Repugnus and the Unite Warriors reissues.

wow..... they oversized the evasion prime and added the same upgrades to it as the weijang KO did..... the fact that they had to copy a KO and still look worse than it is depressing.... (good job weijang on making an awesome ko that even takara wanted to copy)

He still has the wear paint aps just the lighting and quality of photo obscuring it's view, check the standing pose, left leg.

Also the wear aps are invisible depending on angle of light.

its literally the same mold upscaled.... (the freaking thing transforms the same and has the same molding). i feel like there is some denial here purely cause i mentioned they ripped off a ko.

Its been proven not to be the same mold upscaled, the transformation is different

It looks like those who dont want to admit its a new mold are in denial and much preffer the idea of Takara ripping off a KO

It's literally not the same mold.

There are enough engineering, transformation, and detailing differences to negate that.

Things end up in very different places.

It looks the same, because its meant to look the same, same robot mode and same truck mode, but its not the same mold, upscaled by a long shot.

Quoting WJ, from the Bumblebee Movie thread:

william-james88 wrote:The fandom is currently puzzled over the new reveal from Takara Tomy of an Evasion Mode Optimus Prime toy for their upcoming Transformers Bumblebee Movie toyline. How different is it from the previous mold? How much of a retool is it, along with it being an upscale? Well, from certain angles, the changes seem minimal, but at others, as you will see, it might be a completely new mold sharing some transformation steps.

By comparing to images of the Age of Extinction toy, you will notice that everything related to the arms is completely different. The shoulder armour is made of individual pieces, giving further proof that this does have a parts count more akin to a leader class toy. The forearms are completely different too and none of the details match.

Another huge difference, where it seems the transformation itself differs, is when we look at the back. Not only does the back of the top half have different pieces, but in the legs we can see that instead of him having two wheels at his calves, he has two wheels near his hips. So, judging by all this, it is far more likely that this is a new mold using some tricks and design cues of the first toy, like the foot transformation.

These new photos come to us from the Toyswalker facebook page.

That Prime tempts me even if it won't scale with Studio but only if it's released in the UK and at a reasonable price.

Micromasters... I liked them back in the day as Transformers I could easily sneak into school and such but these days they don't really work for me as mainline figures. They're just too ridiculously out of scale with non-Micromaster figures. Legends/Legions make sense because they're small simpler alternatives of characters who have larger more complex figures and serve a different purpose to them.

if you own the mold, please, transform it a couple times and compare it to the pics of this guy. it transformers the same, the truck is the same, the arms have not been fixed (as in the elbows are the same) its planely obvious.... if this considered a new mold then weijang's optimus shouldn't be called a KO either. since that clearly had the same if not more changes compared to this "new" mold.

I really don't know why you can't admit you're wrong when the photos don't lie. These two don't have a single part in common, upscaled or otherwise, and the transformation is only similar, but has a bunch of key changes. The arms don't even transform the same way anymore with more compact forearms and shoulder pads that are their own part rather than sculpted on. The truck has a bunch of new parts not found like the chromed portion on the back of the cab and the entire back end near the trailer mount.

I do own the mold, and that's why I know its not the same mold.

Do you not see the difference in shoulders, the difference in where one set of wheels ends up on the thighs instead of the lower legs, the difference in back panels. Feet are different, head is different, the upper legs are similar but clearly not the same, the lower legs are different. He has hinges on his side view mirrors. Hands are different. Forearms are different.

Yes, there are similarities in transformation, and engineering, its the same truck mode, transforming into the same robot mode sure, but the overall mold has very little of the Voyager Evasion Mode Prime.

That's like saying these 2 are the same toy, and Leader Class Megatron is just upscaled from the voyager toy.

ok now your comparing figures that don't have a single detail thats the same nor do they transform the same... i'm comparing two primes that clearly transform the same, have the same exact details in the legs, crotch, chest, most of vehicle mode. next you'll be telling me tlk hot rod is a completely new mold.... it seems the main reason i'm getting all this flak is cause you people think i support ko's.... (i DON'T) i bet not too long ago you were the same people saying the SS starscream is an upscaled version of the dotm deluxe. but even that figure had more original components than this thing..

I'm with octobotimus on this one. They definitely used the evasion Optimus as the basis for this figure. You can see the same panel lines on the cab of the truck. His feet also end up on the same place as the Voyager and his arms also have the front windows on them, again, just like the evasion mode Prime. They just took that mold, upscaled it and improved upon it.

HasTak probably based the figure off of the Age of Extinction figure but then they drastically changed it, you've been shown pictures of how it is different, just accept the fact that you are wrong and that your opinion is invalid since it is clearly wrong and not even possible. If you think it was a straight upscale with a couple of retoolings then in your eyes every figure that shares similar engineering is clearly the same figure.

Not to be a prick but here is an example of a couple of figures that look similar but are completely different.

Notice the shoulder pieces are separate pieces to the actual shoulder joint where Evasion Mode has a molded shoulder.

Notice the bicep pieces are completely different between the two of them.

Notice the forearms have more panels on Legendary, than on Evasion, and do not have the panel covering the hand.

Notice how the hands are articulated, instead of being molded in one piece.

Notice the back panel is different. Being larger on Legendary than on Evasion, and having to extra blue panels.

Notice how the the crotch piece is while very similar not the same. With an L shaped groove on Legendary.

Notice how the lower legs are a completely different mold, do not have the second tire, and also do not appear to rotate like Evasion Mode's legs did for transformation. They transform some other way. Unclear how yet.

Notice how even the backs of the feet are different.

The Gas tanks rotate on Legendary where they don't on Evasion Mode.

If you think Voyager Megatron, and Leader Megatron do not share any detailing, then I don't know what to tell you anymore.

If you think Voyager Megatron, and Leader Megatron do not share any detailing, then I don't know what to tell you anymore.

ok so yes, there are added on bits. but the core figure has remained the same. the thing with those 2 megatrons didn't make sense because the transformation was completely differently. these 2 primes transform identically with just an extra 2 or so steps with the new one. adding bits to the original doesn't exactly make it a completely new mold, which many seem to be making the case.

Even with all of these changes, this figure still has way to much in common with the Evasion to be a new mold. If this is a new mold, than the Wei Jiang version can't be called a KO either.

Oh for ducks sake.

firstly, snip the quotes dammit

Secondly, it may share most of the transformation, and that new transformation may be similar to what Wei Jang did with their version, but it still counts as a new mold. It shares ideas like Starscream in DotM and SS, but it is a new mold. Nothing is cast from the same damn mold.

This also means Wei Jang is a new mold with basis in another mold. But it is unofficial, so it gets casually tossed in with KOs, and rightfully so.

There was a conversation similar to this about some 3P MPs and Takara ones a year or 2 back, watching a user argue for 5 fudging pages that takara ripped of a KO, but they are using the same tech to get the same results so of course they will be similar.

I might also suggest that you accept you were wrong, admit defeat, and stop trying to antagonize everyone who did more than their fair share giving you the burden of proof to refute your "upsizing the AoE mold" theory. Also, it would help you to do a little bit of studying on how the toy industry actually works, particularly how these toys are really made (not to mention what makes something a knock-off).

I will not back down from something simply because everyone is threatening me and think i'm wrong. i'll believe in what i want and you will believe in what you want. sorry that expressing my opinions on a figure came off as antagonizing, not like others were insulting me or anything...

I can see Octo's point of view in that Legendary and Evasion look the same, just upsized, to the untrained eye and even transform the same. To some, that already makes it a "retool", or directly based on the original toy. Just an upsized copy, nothing more, nothing we haven't had before, look at the last wave of Beast Hunters toys or better yet, the Authentics range.

However, closer looks do reveal several key differences, in detailing and transformation points (the whole transformation is just guess work at this point since we've yet to see the figure properly in action), even if the majority is the same. That may not really matter to some, it all depends on personal definitions. The majority does consider it an all-new mold (including yours truly), based on the fact that:

- it's upscaled
- has differences in key points with the original and whatnot

Fine if one doesn't, not the end of the world. What does need to be acknowledged is that:

- toys in the past have copied transformations and engineering, sometimes fully, despite difference in size. Examples a-plenty, and exactly what Legendary is doing.
- both toys are based on the AoE movie model, thus by nature, share detailing

That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Just a friendly reminder guys, we all have our own opinions.

Opinions =/= Facts.

It's one thing to disagree and debate with someone, but there's no need to be condescending/rude/insulting/etc about it.

Right or wrong, don't be a dick about it.

Cheers.

Ontopic:

Is it me or is that Bumblebee huge? Or is the ugy tiny?

I don't have interest in the Evasion Optimus, I have my broken chrome voyager and he's good enough.

What I'm greatly interested in is that Voyager sized Optmus. He looks very G1! And doesn't have that huge front grill piece thing that Hasbro's has.
Atleast it doesn't look like that.
I hope there will be at least one version without it.
Finally a true Voyager G1 Generations Optimus Prime, I've been looking for a good cab front = torso voyager for years now. And even the Power of the Primes one couldn't do that.
But after a ton of years, finally!

So very excited for that, also that new Ultra Magnus. Siege looks so good, a new Sideswipe! And of course Ironhide, who hasn't had a decent toy since.. well he never had one. The Classics was meh.

That Fortress Maximus little Weaponizer guy looks very cool! I love the idea of a Deluxe being a gun drone tripple changer.
Hound looks amazing, Micromasters look great and I want them!
I always tought they were better than minicons since they look more uniform and solid. Sparkplug is cool and all, but kind of flimsy.

Not that interested in the exclusive Titans Returns figures since they're too expensive for me.

When is Siege coming out people? I know Power of the Primes just hit the Dutch market, got 2 Dinobots last week.

Yeah the bee in these pictures looks a lot bigger than i thought he would be.... i'm actually tempted now... as for the WFC optimus, he looks very nice, and the alt mod isn't another purely G1 cab... probably going to buy them both.... i'm sure my wallet can take it.... i think.

MP Hound flew off my radars: glad to see a new MP mold, even if it's another Autobot.

Maybe it'll be repurposed as Detritus... and by the way, I'm still waiting for an official Bug Bite... do you hear me, e-HOBBY? :-D

Speaking of MPs, I'm not very fond of the new OP. While I understand that the line is focusing on a batter resemblance to the original cartoons, I still like a bit more detail on such expensive figures.
I'll stick to the original MP-10 mold - to the B variant more precisely, since I'm collecting only 'cons... unless the inevitable (?) new black repaint comes out with a RiD Scourge-esque trailer.

Thanks to Loopaza, we now have high resolution scans of the latest issue of the Figure King Magazine, issue 247. Oddly enough, the big highlight in this issue is Power Charge Bumblebee from the upcoming Bumblebee Movie line. So yes, a gimmick centered toy aimed at kids is the most promoted item of Takara this month. We get to see a big promo shot we had not seen in yesterday's news.

Aside from Bee, we also have a lot of images of Legendary Optimus Prime and an image comparing it to the voyager Evasion Mode Optimus Prime, showing it to be the size of a modern day leader class toy (or just about). Speaking of scale, we also see how big Micromasters are, which is the exact same size as the Prime Master decoy armour (so slightly bigger than their G1 counterparts).

We also see other Transformers Siege toys, but nothing that has yet to be revealed. Thanks to these high resolution images, we can finally see that this is the final product with weathering effects. They are simply less pronounced in the final toy than what we had seen from Hasbro which was only digital renders and painted prototypes. So this tells us that as expected, the brand unification is in full effect and the weathering won't be as intense, especially since that would mean a lot more paint applications than usual.

You can at least see it on Optimus's thigh and wheel. I am not a big fan because this seems like they didnt really go all the way. Reminds me of Beast Hunters Wheeljack.

I asked about that at SDCC to the Hasbro team. I misspoke with my question by asking if Cog could transform into the individual robot modes for Gasket and Grommet. As I was asking the question, I was really thinking for some reason that Gasket and Grommet had individual robot modes, when in fact they do not and not sure what I was mixing them up with.

Cog is amazing, by the way. Way to take a BS character and make him awesome.

I must say, though, that the scaled back weathering effects look much better to me. A little does really go a long way. It should help the Siege figures fit in that much better with the rest of the Classics/Universe/Generations line. These high resolution scans also make Optimus Prime's red look a whole lot more on model. The low resolution scans before made him look almost hot pink.

Who else is guessing $79.99 USD? Pretty standard leader price for a Takara piece. Or, $89.99.
