Since his reformatting into a heroic Autobot in a small protoform body, Black Convoy has been put in charge of a Dimensional Patrol protoform squadron charged with capturing the remaining Combatrons, who have fled to the Legends Universe. His soldiers locate the fugitives and forcibly reformat Greejeeber into one of them, and when his comrades reach out to help, protoform-Greejeeber turns on them and reformats them as well. Only Dolrailer gets away and urges Dark Ai to save herself, believing her to be their last hope. The arrival of a black tanker truck briefly makes him think Black Convoy has returned to normal, but the vehicle reveals itself to be a mass-produced Dimensional Patrol drone based on Convoy's old body and reformats him.
Refusing to leave the Legends world with Dark Ai still on the loose, Black Convoy and Skids announce that during their indefinite stay, the world's transtectors will be sealed off for the security's sake. As Autobot Axalon and Decepticon Tera-Kura alike grumble about this, Dark Ai appears at Axalon and reveals that she's carrying backup data of Black Convoy and the Combatrons' evil personalities. Rattrap and the Autobots agree to help her install the data into Black Convoy and make him turn on the Dimensional Patrol, just as the Patrol learns of Dark Ai's location and have their drones carpet bomb Axalon. The Autobot Headmasters fight back by incapacitating the drones with Skids's keep-out tape, modifying them into transtectors, and taking control of them. Black Convoy responds by scanning Hardhead and adopting a Headmaster form himself, but this is just what the Autobots had been hoping for: as soon as Black Convoy combines with one of the drones, Dark Ai enters its cockpit and installs the backup data, restoring Black Convoy to his "normal" self. Turning against the Dimensional Patrol, he helps the Autobots drive Skids and the protoform soldiers out of the Legends Universe.
In the aftermath, Black Convoy restores the other Combatrons and prepares to return home, now in command of new drone soldiers captured from the Patrol. He considers conquering the Legends Universe first, but writes it off as a joke when the Autobots train their guns at him. Dark Ai punishes him for the jest with an electrical whip while teaching him that the enemy of your enemy is your friend, surprising Rattrap with the fact that she's the domineering one of the two.

Not sure if that'll actually help your decision, I just wanted to throw that out there.

I feel like a lot of the colors in these photos come down to bad photography. The guns and other color-matched parts are different colors between the photos. But wouldn't it make more sense for those parts to be the same color as the pure white on the head?
I'm a little more concerned about the head being a lighter shade of blue from the rest of the body, that's consistent in all of the photos.

Even as a good guy, Black Convoy maintains a Lawfully Evil brand of order that's just too rigid for the other good guys to tolerate.primalxconvoy wrote:What? My understanding was that Skids' group of dimension hoppers was going against the will of the other Autobots and Decepticons on the Legends planet so Rattrap's group helped Dark Ai change Black Convoy and the Combatrons back to normal. Decepticons on the planet aren't so much "evil" as they are unscrupulous corporate rivals (even the ones that aren't natives) so turning them back into Decepticons isn't as bad as it would be in other stories. Mainly they were just trying to get them away from Skids and protect their Transtectors.

This is very true; if I was looking at it purely from a toy perspective, I wouldn't have much of a reason to go for Takara's over Hasbro's -- Hasbro's product is better, cheaper, and the only negative is it doesn't come with a Targetmaster which honestly doesn't look that amazing.
... buuuuut I want said Targetmaster. For headcanon fiction reasons.

It would be shocking if they didn't do him eventually since the previous figure was from the Generations line. I think the only reason why Octane happened first was because of Trypticon. I'm sure we'll hear something by the end of the year for a 2018 release.

Again, we still have no images for the three listings, but prices in USD will be approximately 35, 55, and 90.

We do not, but considering it's called 'clone set' rather than 'destron clone set' or 'cybertron clone set', I'm gonna assume it's all four.
Hey so disregard all that, the listing is actually for a "Clone BOT" set, so it's just Cloudraker and Fastlane for now.

EDIT: Hhmhmmmmmm..... I'll be keeping an eye on that, if I can't find hasbro Fastlane for a proper price.

-As presumably a set of two Legends figures, we don't have a direct comparison for the Clone Bots at 36 USD; but it seems to be consistent and sensible alongside, say, Bumblebee at 20 USD.
-At 55 USD, Blitzwing is the same price as Octane and Broadside -- both of whom came with extras. We could be seeing a Titan Master vehicle or even a new Titan Master alongside him.
-Of most note is Overlord at 90 USD. As this price is nowhere near Ginrai's 130, we can finally put to rest that there won't be overly major changes -- it is higher than Sixshot's 80 and Blaster's 85 though, so make of that what you will. Probably accounts for a second and maybe third Titan Master.

The US prices wont give us the best comparisons since we arnet taking into account the change in exchange during that time. It wasnt put in our news but here are the prices in yen
Compare those to Octane and Jinra

And take into account the small tax amiami adds, you now notice that Overlord has the exact same MSRP as Ginrai.

But remember, this is very very close to the MSRP of Blaster, who had nothing almost different. The prices are not related to how much effort is put into them, its just a price point. So the only differnce might just be an extra titan master.

As someone else mentioned, you have to compare the Japanese yen prices, not US retailer prices.
Blitzwing is the same price as Octane and Broadside, which came with an extra Headmaster (Octane) and Titan Master vehicle (Broadside).
The Clones are 3500 Yen. Which is 500 Yen less than the price of the smaller two packs Takara releases (legends scale Transformer with Headmaster - Bumblebee & Spike, Kickback & Clouder, etc). These small 2 packs are 2000 yen, so the two clones being that twice that price minus 500 yen seems about right.
Overlord is the same price as Ginrai, who had significant changes. They are both 500 yen more than the other Leaders such as Sixshot. The 500 yen increase could simply be for the addition of an extra Headmaster (see Octane's price increase).

It's also about the same price as the Adventures box set of Rumble and Frenzy at ¥3,500. Granted, those were Scouts, but I think Takara Tomy is more interested in the price point than the contents. The Generations 2-packs were ¥3,600 which when accounting for inflation and removing the Micromasters is pretty much the same price.

Likely just give them more cartoon-accurate decoes. I doubt there'd be any tooling they'd want to change; the tooling right now is about as accurate as could be.

I just checked the cartoon representations of the clones. Hasbro's Fastlane and Cloudraker look pretty much on point with their G1 cartoon selves. As for Pounce and Wingspan, though, they could use some work, particular with their faces. I'm sure Takara will want to actually paint them, lol.

If both releases are the same then why would we call one the Hasbro version?

Because one is from Hasbro, one is from Takara. There will be no difference to the figures, just the boxes and paperwork, but they will still be from different companies.

Yikes. Option 2, please!
So, to summarize, Hasbro released the Generations Autobot clones with white faces, which match their animation counterparts from G1, but the original toys from G1 had red faces, which were retained for the Headmasters cartoon back in the day. However, Hasbro has released the Generations Decepticon clones with white faces too, matching their original toys from G1 and NOT the cartoon. That's not surprising for Hasbro, given that they tend to skew more towards the toys than the cartoons as the "authority" on a character's look and paint apps. However, this is add odds with what they did for the Autobot clones. If Takara does red faces for their Autobot clones, would they dare to make yellow faces for their Decepticon clones? It wouldn't match the Headmasters cartoon OR the original toys, but their appearance from "The Rebirth." This would though give collectors a chance to mix and match to get a complete set of four that's either more "The Rebirth" accurate or "The Headmasters"/G1 toy accurate. Takara has done some wacky things we wouldn't expect before with deco choices, if only in the name of doing it differently the Hasbro has done it, even if it means sacrificing cartoon accuracy.

It's strange, but true! Sometimes Takara throws us a loop and gives us something decidedly "off model." I think they throw a couple of those in every once in a while just to make sure we're paying attention.
