Snakasblog- Snakas updates his blog with a couple of items.
The first is a set of comparison images of the exclusive Henkei and Botcon Thrusts, with the wing engines set on the larger wings of the Henkei version instead of on the smaller wings as we had seen previously.
The second is a listing for the Japanese book, Transformers Generation Volume 2. Due out May 16th. There is no real details available for this yet. The first volume included a coupon to redeem to get the Electro-Disruptor Ligier (Clear Mirage Exclusive), as well as, a boatload of great photos and information about Japanese Transformers. Volume 2 is expected to continue this.

I do like the white “lightning” on the wings though, nice update
eventho i didn't buy either him or dirge, i do hope for the people who did they don't have the looseness like many of the TC's & SW's did

You can see Mirage in the foreground (despite the flash), So looks legitimate.
Anyway, prefer the Botcon Thrust, but the Henkei version is nothing to be ashamed of. It corrects the wings issue. I thought they were too short on the botcon version. I also thought Thrust (but not dirge) should have come with the same launchers as Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, etc. to better match the original. Henkei version fixes this, also. So, I would not be disappointed with the Henkei version one bit. In fact, I'm picking it up, also

Yes, it is Starscream's Ghost, yes, it is legitimate. Apparently this Generations book will have a focus on Megatron(s).
Hmmm, I wonder how well the Seeker mold is holding up. Ghost might be enough to finish it off.

Same here. I'm a sucker for the normal sized wings. The comparison pic makes those baby wings look funny on the botcon version.

On the other hand given the price tag this isn't much of a deal really. Ultimately the importers are paying almost as much for this guy as the Botcon figures cost to buy. Just saving on the secondary market prices.

My thoughts as well. Botcon version looks very strange IMHO.

Sorry, didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. Just saying it was nice to see the thread hadn't gone down that rather inevitable path yet.

Though I really, really like the Botcon Thrust better because of the burgundy and black colors over Henkei's cranberry and gray colors, I'll have to be satisfied with it for the price. Perhaps in time and with patience I will repaint it to look just like the Botcon version.

Carbon copy of my own thoughts on these. I too really wanted the whole set complete, and I was 3/6 of the way with the Classics versions, but without the Botcon three. After having made some unsuccesful, i.e. not high enough, bids on e-Bay for the Botcon set, I decided to go with Henkei, sold off my Classics Starscream, Ramjet and Skywarp (vs. UM) and bought the four available Henkei seekers. I'm still a bit unhappy with Henkei Ramjet, because that is the one who's paintjob I really don't like when compared to Classics Ramjet. But Henkei Thrust looks like a win for me, and I'm glad I've got him and Dirge on order... I especially like the white face on Thrust.

Get one per month, like I'm doing. Thrust first, then Dirge for me. Dirge just never had much of a personality IMO. Thundercracker and Thrust are my favorite seekers, alwyas have been. I think they did a good job on the Henkei versions, Ican feel just fine not having the Botcon set. Plus, I found a place to get the Botcon Thrust wing repros to make my own if I prefer at some point

Hmm. Maybe I just never paid that much attention then to him. Thanks for the info on him though Diem, one of the reasons I love this place. If you don't know something or area little uneducated on something someone will clue you in, without making you feel dumb or in a "flamey" way.

My Thrust has a kinky wing (and a half-arsed paintjob), some munt in the factory jammed it into the red wing socket at a funny angle and deformed the peg. Hopefully I can file and superglue it into some sort of working condition, as at the moment not only does the wing sit at an angle, it falls off whenever transformed.
However, I have Grimlock to console me!

That sucks. I'm really looking forward to these and if I get a bad one, I'm going to be pissed. After getting 2 bad MP Thundercrackers, I don't want any more bad Takara products this year.

No worries. Dirge doesn't act that way in the comics. Or the cartoon. Or anything else. It's all there in the Tech Specs.
Posted by Counterpunch on April 15th, 2009 @ 10:49am CDT
Dirge is beautiful. He's really, really nice. A+ I dare say I like him better than the BotCon version and that is saying a LOT since I think the deco on that figure is superb.
Thrust...I've got to say it and I'm sorry, but he's second best. Gentei Thrust is a runner up prize to the BotCon version. He's so close...but so far from "right". The wing-turbine implementation is awkward at best. I was hoping you could keep his wings in the downward, cartoon position, but realisticly, you just can't. He'll work for those who don't already have the BotCon version and won't pay $350 crazy dollars for it. For those with the BotCon version already though, don't feel like you need to hunt down the Gentei version.

I must admit that I love these two figures, both of them. I have both botcon Dirge and Thrust but considering that I've created new persona for their Henkei counterparts (Boltstrike and Torrent), they're not in direct competition.
I tend to agree with CP that Thrust isn't as good as his Botcon counterpart, but at the same time he's different enough that they can stand side by side on my shelf without invading the other's character.
Worth every penny in my eyes.

Glad to hear that you've found value you in them even though you already had the BC verisons. Not having the BC versions, I like hearing that these versions are good enough that those with both sets still really like them.
I'd love to have the BC versions too or in lieu of these but with these available now, not spending 300-400 dollars on them frees up $ to blow on other figures... like Strafe and Ghost SS.

Oh, I agree, if but for Dirge alone. Dirge is brilliant.
Thrust is really interesting as well. Don't his wings feel fragile though?

Now that you mention it, kinda yeah.

I like the wings on the Henkei just a bit better, the Botcon wings look too short to me. It could just be the angle of the picture, I dunno.
I hafta say though, that I prefer the black of the BotCon version over the grey of the Henkei, just for style, but the grey does give him a more G1 feel. I think I can settle the whole exclusivity debate now: Henkei Thrust is G1, BotCon Thrust is G2. The black just makes him look more dark and sinister, for some reason it feels like G2 to me.

At this price, that would be brave.

it can be done-- i got it all planned out - on how to do it-- but- that is alot of cash flow- if by chance i F it up-mainly the splitting of the thruster--easy to split or a bitch

They also look great. I have only had them for about 15 minutes now but I like what they did with them. Dirge is near perfect. Better than Botcon because he is himself rather than a straight up repaint of Ramjet.
Trust I like. He was the one I bought the set for. The white lighten bolts I could do without but the rest is perfect. Couldn't be happier with them.
And with that I think I might be done with collecting for a while. Already got MP Grimlock. Not real interested in the movie toys. There are no more classics for me to pick up. And Animated I just don't care enough about. Worse until G.I.Joe releases Mindbender or the rest of Cobra-la I have all the figures I want from that collection as well. Guess I should start putting my toy money into stocks or something.

Mine had the exact same problem with the wing. The right wing stuck up at a weird angle. It looked like shit. I just worked on the peg and gradually little by little over a day bent it into shape with a pair of plyers (I put a piece of fabric between the plyers and plastic to reduce any teeth marks). The peg still feels real strong, its just stressed some now. It can still come out of the socket, but it stays in better now that its straight.
No problem with the paint on either fig though.
