According to the article, not only has Hasbro reacquired all the rights to all classic Sunbow produced productions. But they now have all the DVD release rights to release and distribute the newly acquired shows on the North American Continent:
Hasbro has reacquired the worldwide distribution rights to everything, including the rights to release the shows on DVD in the U.S. and Canada. The reacquisition is a result of two transactions. The first transaction is with TV-Loonland, and the second is with Sony BMG Music Entertainment, who had held a distribution license from TV-Loonland for the North American home video/DVD rights. TV-Loonland held the rights as a result of contracts that were executed a long time ago. Rhino was a sublicense of Sony BMG.
However no plans for DVD releases for any of the newly acquired licenses have yet been released.

I hope they make it good like they did with the remastered G1 Transformers Movie they did a really, really good job of recoloring and remastering it. I hope we can see some cool special behind the scenes stuff such as voice acting, the making of and behind the scences with Frank Welker and Peter Cullen. Also throw in some cool old school commercials such as toys and TV Spots.
As for the other liscenses requiured I hope we finally get to see a RiD Box set even though it is only 20 something episodes. I also hope for Victory, The Headmasters, & Super God Master Force. But that is just wishful thinking on those.
I hope that we will get the other box sets such as Transformers-Energon but I think that Paramount still owns the rights that to that one still.
But this is good news none the less, but I hope if and when they do re-release it wont be just on Blue-Ray DVD as I only have a Normal DVD Player with a DVD Recorder on it.

Now why would you need the (likely) inferior Sony produced versions of these shows when the Madman set is already available with all of it's delicious extras?
The Sony Beast Machines sets were so terribly bare and boring in comparison to the Madman Beast Wars sets.

Maybe it's because I'm not willing to pay $70-$100 for a foreign release of something that I could pay $20-$30 for domestically.
Besides, if they aren't released in the U.S., then I'll consider the Madman ones that can only be purchased from Ebay (everywhere else is either in AUD, GBP, or outrageously expensive USD prices).

I'm not certain you'd want to

When those were out I could only budget for one or the other and I chose TF. No regrets there, but I really want GI Joe as well.

If you missed out though, congrats on the chance to own the series. However honestly, they're probably gonna cost alot, so I'd look into some import boxes.
Last month I got new, RID complete off Amazon UK for $27USD, and they had alot of good deals on the G1 and Beast Wars/Machines too.
If I didn't already have them, then I would have gotten them.
Get a $25 Cyberhome DVD player and you won't even have to hack your DVD player for region coding

Round where I live each PART of a season of G1 went for 90 damn dollars.

Yep. If I read it right, this means that while new G1 DVDs aren't yet confirmed, there's hope for those of us who would want them and didn't get them the last time they were out.

WOW, I only payed $50, which still kills me when I see import sets of THE COMPLETE FRIGGIN SERIES selling for $35-$60
Still, $250 for the Rhino sets plus $20 for the movie, I don't care who releases what, I'm set with what I have...
But again, if you don't have it, I'd import!
