A final nail in the coffin ends the distribution problems that have been plaguing the Transformers Prime: First Edition toyline with an email being sent to customers who have preorders for the figures at BigBadToyStore.

We apologize that we have learned that Hasbro has canceled these figures. We will be listing new TF Prime preorders on Wednesday 2/1. Some of these may convert to new listings and some will be canceled. We will email you with updates between now and Wednesday.
Thanks!
Customer Service Specialist
www.BigBadToyStore.com

We have received confirmation from Joel that this is indeed the case. Existing preorders will be updated where possible so, for example, instead of getting First Edition Cliffjumper, you will instead be getting RID Cliffjumper. The specifics of what will get updated and what the final results will be aren't known, but all will be revealed on Wednesday.

I haven't said the following phrase in a very long time.

**** you Hasbro. The First Edition distribution has been crap and you're apparently making no effort to improve things. I was looking forward to collecting the line but I think now I'm just going to watch it all slip past.

I am so very glad that, when the neutered Robots in Disguise versions showed up on the British market last week, I thought, "screw this bullcrap," canceled my American preorders and purchased or stacked two each of the Takara version of Bulkhead, Cliffjumper and Optimus.

This line might have been a test balloon of sorts to determine its viability.

Unfortunately, even on Japanese online shops, they are all but sold out.

Great... What the hell would i want a RID CJ for when i pre-orderd the first edition. So after 2 month of waiting i can cancel all BBTS orders, now thats just great!

Thanks for nothing Hasbro!! I will stick to Takara for the future. Any maybe more of the older stuff. Meaning Hasbro USA can keep all that RID crap for good!!!

Thanks for beeing a jerk Hasbro!! After this shitload that was called DOTM toys now that.
Hopefully the collectors won´t forget this!!

And hopefully all domestic fans that attend BotCon will carry enough eggs to throw at you Hasbro!!

F*** you!!!! :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x

That really sucks. I feel bad for everyone who ordered from BBTS thinking it ws the best thing to do. :(

I honestly don't know what Hasbro is thinking. These toys are a success, yet they seem to not want to sell them for whatever reason. It's like everything we thought we knew about the Prime line previously was just a huge, cruel prank. Big-name retailers are partially to blame for declining to order them, but online shops are all over these and Hasbro doesn't want to give them any product to sell. Absolutely ridiculous.

**** you Hasbro indeed -__-

I think I really am going to order a few Takara figures just so Hasbro gets less money from me. Will cost me more but if I can work it into my budget for these toys it'll be my silent way of flicking Hasbro off for their BS.

First, this is the first time I've known Hasbro to do this specifically. I've never had an issue with BBTS filling one of my Transformers pre-orders in the past. I don't think it's fair to say Hasbro always does this. Sure, many of us are pissed, but let's not get ridiculous.

Second, there has to be something else to this story. I wonder if the FE toys are not up to snuff QA wise, have sharp parts that could lead to litigation, or something like lead paint. As others have said, it doesn't make any sense to release so few toys from these molds.

I was looking for a reason to cut back on my hobbies. Looks like this might be it. I was really looking forward to these FE figures. Some of the RID just don't look as good. If I had seen them prior to any FE I'd be more excited. One thing's for sure: any of my FE that get converted to RID will be cancelled. Sorry, BBTS. Not your fault.

Slag!

I expect this kind of crap from Mattel and Bandai America, but it seems that Hasbro has jumped on the bandwagon of moronic distribution games. Or maybe its the stores. Or maybe its cosmic rays. The point is that Transformers used to be the one line I always felt secure about being able to collect without any of that BS like I experienced with MOTU 2000 and PR RPM. Now even that warm fuzzy "no problem, I'll just go to tru or Target and there they'll be" feeling is gone. :-(

I just went into panic mode and blew my toy fund for the next couple weeks on FE Voyagers Op and Bulky, along with FE DX Cliffy, via an online source. Not happy at all about that, but I do NOT want those inferior RID versions after seeing the FE ones.

I will feel vindicated if I never see those FE toys at any store EVER. I will feel rage if I do see them show up locally. #-o

This Hobby has gotten kinda stressful.

What is going on with TF lines these days? First RTS Frenzy/Rumble, then DotM Soundwave, Wheeljack, and Leadfoot, and now many of the FE Prime toys just not getting any kind of release by Hasbro. I mean, this has got to be harming profits even just by tiny fraction, making all these molds and not being able to release them at all, right? Or at least drive the team behind the toys nuts.

i highly doubt that it's the quality control aspect.

i think it was the time of year. stores NEVER get anything new during the holidays/right after the holidays.

my BIG problem is that instead of filling slots with new molds of new characters.. we get new molds of the same characters.. not only that, but the new molds are worse than the previous. what they should've done is rerelease the first edition figures in the RiD packaging.

It's bullshit that canada received the entire first edition line, while the US gets the shaft.

i say we get a lot of people together, and flood hasbros inbox with complaints.

This is incredibly stupid. I know people think anger towards Hasbro is stupid and silly, most times, hell I've been one of them.

This time? No. It's completely reasonable and warranted. This has been a trainwreck since May.

Oversaturated the wrong figures, underproduced the new ones, then ceased DOTM completely, then brought along the First editions, canceled them and now have PRID on the shelves.

All in 8 months.

What a bloody cockup.

First, I got the Comic Con exclusive Prime 1st ed from HTS. (This one will stay sealed because I'm pretty sure deluxe OP will turn up eventually.)

Weeks later...

I saw TF Prime FE in my local TrU at Laval (Québec, Canada). They only had Starscream and Bumblebee. That was last November, or early December. Being a Starscream fan I just took him.

A while later, I took another Starscream to keep MOC, just in case. At 17$+tax, it's expensive, but I'm a Screamers fan.

After Xmas, the TF Prime toys were discounted to 5$! Of course, only The Bee was left. At that price, I snatched two. One I keep sealed, the other I open. (Bumblebee is not great by the way.)

Finally, the voyagers are here! Monday, I went to Tru, only to find just Optimus Prime. I wanted Bulkead too, but he was gone. I passed on Arcee and Cliffjumper because the voyager is 30$+tax and the deluxes are 17$+tax. Beside, there will be more later, right? Optimus Prime rock. Way better in person than in pictures.

Yesterday, I sad "screw it" and took Arcee at TrU. Great and sexy figure!

But then, shit got real on 4chan's /toy/ board. I saw thet the First Edition figures will be no more and the regular wave will be different, even inferior molds!
Bulkhead is being scalped at insane prices on Ebay...
Panic mode activated.

I franctically call all the TrU of Laval and Montreal. NO BULKHEAD ANYWHERE! Just in case, I call the TrU at the next town over. THEY HAVE HIM! Several in fact.

So today, after work, I asked a co-worker to give me a lift to that TrU. (I don't have a car). I used my credit card and most of my food money to get two Bulheads, two Cliffjumpers, one more Arcee and one more Optimus.

I'll play with one, and keep the other sealed. One hour and a half of multiple city bus rides later, in a slushstorm, I'm finally home with my haul.

Yes, I'm an idiot who will have to live on bread and water for a few days, but I'm a happy idiot.

Here, have a picture.

Image

I feel for you Amarican who can never have these figures at reasonable prices. But I juggle with sadistic glee that I got my revenge on all the ones I missed and I had to buy on Ebay because I live in Québec. (Glaring at you, MP Rodimus and 25th Unicron).

I'm not sure why they had to have a separate "First Edition" line in the first place.

I understand that the FE molds were initially slated to be part of Generation and that they got bumped. Is there really all that much difference in the new "more intuitive" transformation schemes that the RID figures are touted to feature? Does marketing always need to dumb things down to a greater and greater degree?

If this keeps up, we can look forward to the day when the heroic Jumpstarters efforts to foil the machinations of the evil Battlechargers... and little more.

I can not believe this. I put in a preorder to BBTS and Hasbro screws it all over. Honestly, TFP Cliffjumper First Edition was the ONLY one that I wanted. I am so upset right now. I don't know whether I should just get the STUPID looking one or save up and get the Takara/scalpers ebay First Edition.

Their release schedules and decisions are just absolutely baffling. something's not right with them these days that's for sure.

Well, if anyone is interested pm me and I may be able to help members get some of these figs (no promises about bulkhead though). Just feel terrible about all this :-(

I don´t wanna know... RID CJ looks crappy enough, i don´t need to see more.

Well, there goes the pre-order from BBTS and with it, the RID line. Soundwave and Ratchet i will see but that stupid light gimmick crap and all that cyberverse stuff they can keep for sure.

Ebay or not i will make the First Editions complete, Hasbro and Takara and then i think i´ll go back focusing on filling holes in older toylines. Still miss some reissue g1 figures and a lot of Unicron Trilogy toys. So more money for ebay sellers and the rest for Takara and Third Party.

And nothing for Hasbro anymore. I hope Hasbro will pay for f****** over all collectors with the First Editions.
Sorry for BBTS but pre-orders changed from FE to RID will be canceled.

This drives me mad! Bleed for it Hasbro, i hope you do!

I think the toys are suffering because they're no longer their main concern. I think it's all about the movies and entertainment properties. I wouldn't be surprised to see toys decline or be spun off to a separate company.

I said this when they said they were becoming a multimedia company, I hope to be proven wrong.

Re: Hasbro cancels all further Transformer Prime: First Edition shipments (1339299)
Posted by metaphorge on January 27th, 2012 @ 8:57pm CST
So, here's my theory as to why this has happened:

My understanding is that the molds that became First Edition were slated to be part of Generations before the Dark of the Moon, and had been designed and tooled quite some time ago.

My supposition is that these toys were physically being produced when HasTak discovered that, for whatever reason, that this was not going to happen, so they stopped production on these molds without having completed a very large run.

It's pretty apparent from the differences between the DOTM toys and those previous that a number of design philosophy decisions have changed at Hasbro, so when it was time to move forward with Prime toys again the FE molds were no longer consistent with the direction they wanted to take the line, and it was probably not cost effective to bring them back online to increase the total number of figures produced to an order suitable for American big-box store.

There were enough to satisfy the needs of TRU Canada, though they probably ended up taking pretty much all of them (which resulted in none being left over for online distributors like BBTS).

Another possible scenario might involve changes in manufacturing facilities, which might have caused complications with the availability of toolings.

(I know Takara-Tomy has been slated to be moving their manufacturing to Vietnam and had already done so; I wonder how far along in this process they are, and where the First Edition and Robots in Disguise toys are/were being manufactured....)

This certainly does create a situation in which some 'midnight specials' could become quite lucrative, though that once again does depend on the status of the tooling.

Egads, I've learned waaaaaay too much about how manufacturing in China works....

Even if so, whats the use... They would still be KO´s and bevor i spend my money on a fake i do spend it somewhere else or not all.

Hope BotCon has good security personal this year, from what i hear, they should always have an eye out on the Hasbro section.

Hasbro really knows what collectors want and delivers:

No Animated Season 4
No Animated Voyager Thundercracker
No Animated Voyager Blackout (Thanks Takara)
No RTS Frenzy / Rumble (Thanks Takara)
No DOTM Soundwave or Que
No DOTM HA Soundwave
No Prime Voyager Bulkhead
No Prime Voyager Optimus Prime
No Prime DX Cliffjumper
No Prime Entertainment Package

Hell, why do i even buy Hasbro TF anymore when i simply just should stay with Takara and Third Party only?

Instead Hasbro gives us a totally screwed DOTM toyline with a voyager Prime that looks like an up-scaled FastActionBattler and now they do the same to TF:Prime.
Why bring out the good stuff when you can sell crap instead, thanks Hasbro!

Hmm, if my friends don't find any (my TRU got nothing), I'll probably give up on the line. Can't afford the online prices, and if I could have only one, I'd like the Vehicon, who seems to be the [most] impossible one to find. Cliffjumper would be second. :/

Dont confuse the quality of CHMS or KOLD with the quality of those cheap neon colored Chinese KO's. From a quality perspective, CHMS is basically Hasbro without the corporate shmuck. That is unless that little stamp on the right leg that reads "Hasbro" has sentimental value to you.

I see you like animated. Did you ever physically see the CHMS animated Chromia and Medic ???

Quality top notch. I highly recommend them.

I Fully support KO and 3rd party figures now. Hasbro is doing everything in its power to alienate and Piss off the very people that kept transformers going all these years, WE THE COLLECTORS!!!!! I never see kids in the toy isle looking for Transformers... only bakugan, pokemon, bayblades and ben 10 and all that other crap....Hasbro has no idea who is actually buying their toys at all and they don't care. They have said as much when they said
"we decide what each region wants ." I don't remember what interview I read that in..just stuck in my head. I wish that Takara would just buy out Hasbro and send the haslow execs out on their asses and run the transformers brand like they do in Japan, for the collectors.

No Prime Voyager Bulkhead (Was produced by both Hasbro and Takara.)
No Prime Voyager Optimus Prime (Was produced by both Hasbro and Takara.)
No Prime DX Cliffjumper (Was produced by both Hasbro and Takara.)
No Prime Entertainment Package (Was produced by Hasbro.)

Soundwave (both versions) was produced and released by Takara. (Apparently RobotKingdom has the Hasbro version of the Deluxe available for sale.)

Que was produced and released by Takara.

No matter how you slice it, Hasbro DID produce the First Edition figures, no matter how small the run. Can't discredit them when the fact is that they did make the figures.

Laserwave13 wrote:Hell, why do i even buy Hasbro TF anymore when i simply just should stay with Takara and Third Party only?

Because they do provide us with Generations and spinoff lines that contain a good portion of what we clamor for. Even though the wait and distribution is a killer.

Laserwave13 wrote:Instead Hasbro gives us a totally screwed DOTM toyline with a voyager Prime that looks like an up-scaled FastActionBattler and now they do the same to TF:Prime.
Why bring out the good stuff when you can sell crap instead, thanks Hasbro!

Fair question. However, I think it can be said that the complexities ruined it for the kids and kids have always been their main audience. Will continue to be, as well. So, they dumbed everything down.

It worked for Power Rangers, apparently it can work for TransFormers. Either that, or Hasbro has just decided to do the least work for the most gain. I'm gonna go with least work for most gain.

I'm sure they have a rhyme or reason for these delays, or at least did, but they can't be cost efficient. They must be cutting into their bottom line.

This is like a TV show. Starts off okay, then it declines in ratings. In an effort to save it, the reboot it, midseason, in the hopes that it'll bring in new viewers, or at least return the ones who left. It rarely, if ever, works.

Problem is, this isn't a TV show, and this shift akin to a reboot, just doesn't and won't work. It might sell with the kids, might, but even they're not dumb.

They dropped the ball with Animated, the really didn't get it with the overcompensation of movie toys and now they're premiering the toyline almost a YEAR after the series started. We were through an entire first SEASON before we ever saw the toys at retail.

That's not a sensible business model, it just isn't. You don't sell a product to kids and collectors and drive up demand, when there's no supply to be had. Why hype a product you don't even have? To me, that sounds illegal. Most businesses caught doing that, get busted by the law.

Why is Hasbro above reproach?

You really have screwed this up, Hasbro. The First Edition toys were fine for both kids and collectors. You're pushing PRID on an audience that won't want it. It'll sell well in the beginning, but once the awe/wow factor wears off (which will be quick), you'll see sales plummet like a rock.

Animated 2.0? I think so. Your lesson, when will you learn it?

@Rated X

Hi, i have read a lot about the CHMS stuff and that it has good to perfect quality but no, never had anything from them in hand to see for myself.

The Cromia and Medic repaints of Arcee were tempting and i consider those more like variations that are not officially available anyway. But i would hate it if i, say, like to buy and original Henkei Ghost Screamer from ebay and get a KO instead, even if it is a good KO. But i am not like totally against KO figures, it just depends which i would buy and which not. Anyhow, now i would not know were to get them anymore since this one special website were they have been offered is closed as we all know.
(would have ordered the Dino Cassettes, those are simply impossible to find original, not mentioning the price. Did they release the KO SG Rodimus and Henkei Wildrider or was it too late?)

Any yes, i´m a big fan of Animated
Still sad that there was no season 4 and not even a Season 3 DVD release

@Autobot032
Hi and sorry if my post sounded a little harsh. All those emotions

Yes i know about the Takara DOTM Soundwave(s) and Que but they are far from worth the import prices.
(see, germany is a barren wasteland for a TF collector, we even have to import from the states a lot of stuff. Most toylines we get about half or less and almost zero exclusives)
That is also why it hit´s so hard to see that there are no more TF:Prime FE toys anymore.

But about Generations... Well, United but still nothing beats Henkei

Yeah this is Bull ****, the US hasn't seen one FE Bulkhead or Optimus hit the shelves. So here is great idea if the store shelves weren't overloaded with DOTM Bumblebees then they would order new stuff. Seriously they have 10 on the shelves here in the states, and have so many version of BB it makes me sick.

Even if so, whats the use... They would still be KO´s and bevor i spend my money on a fake i do spend it somewhere else or not all.

To be fair, CHMS is not quite up to Hasbro's manufacturing standards yet, but they are within striking distance.

I find the concern about the "authenticity" of recently manufactured items to be kind of quaint. There are legitimate questions concerning right to profit off of intellectual property, and there are legitimate concerns regarding authenticity of essentially an antique, but there's only so far you can go before questioning which of two plastic items of indistinguisable quantity is "fake" before you become a Monty Puthon sketch.

Eventually we'll just be able to buy the design files from Hasbro and have them printed at the corner plastic vendor, then take them home and screw them together ourselves if we're still so anachronistic as to want to play with a physical item....

And to think, they probably actually thought they wanted to get on the Summer Movie Blockbuster Bus.

It could be worse. Look what the movies did to G.I. Joe....
